Properties of the anode for cathodic protection need low overvoltage for oxygen evolution and high corrosion resistance. It is well known that DSA (Dimensionally Stable Anode) has been the best anode ever since. DSA is mainly composed of $RuO_2$, $IrO_2$, $ZrO_2$, $Co_2O_3$, and also $Ta_2O_5$, $TiO_2$, $MnO_2$ are added to DSA for better corrosion resistance. The lifetime of DSA for cathodic protection is also one of the very important factors. $RuO_2$, $IrO_2$, $RhO_2$, $ZrO_2$ are well used for life extension, and many researches are focused on life extension by lowering oxygen evolution potential and minimizing dissolution of oxide coatings. This work aims to evaluate the influence of constituents of MMO and coating cycles and $ZrO_2$ coating on the electrochemical properties and lifetime of DSA electrodes. From the results of lifetime assessment in the anodes coated with single component, $RuO_2$ coating was more effective and showed longer lifetime than $IrO_2$ coating. Also, an increased coating cycle and an electrochemically coated $ZrO_2$ could enhance the lifetime of a DSA.
The degradation and mineralization of crude oil were investigated over 50-days in three soils, loamy sand, sand, and combusted loamy, which were artificially contaminated with crude oil (50 g $kg^{-1}$) and inoculated with Nocardia sp. H17-1. The degradation efficiency of total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) in sand was the highest at 76% among the three soils. The TPH degradation rate constants $(k_{TPH})$ in loamy sand, sand, and combusted loamy sand were 0.027 $d^{-1}$, 0.063 $d^{-1}$, and 0.016 $d^{-1}$, respectively. In contrast, the total amount of $CO_2$ evolved was the highest at 146.1 mmol in loamy sand. The $CO_2$ evolution rate constants (k_{CO2})$ in loamy sand, sand, and combusted loamy sand were 0.057 $d^{-1}$, 0.066 $d^{-1}$, and 0.037 $d^{-1}$, respectively. Therefore, it seems that the degradation of crude oil in soils can be proportional to the soil pore space and that mineralization can be accelerated with the increase of organic substance.

Pillared clays with Zr and Fe/Cu/Zr polycations have been prepared from natural clays found in large deposits of Kazakhstan and assessed as catalysts for the catalytic wet peroxide oxidation (CWPO), using 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) as model compound. The performance of the catalysts was followed by measuring the concentration of 4-NP, H2O2 and the total organic carbon (TOC), considering C4-NP = 5 g L-1, $C_{H_2O_2}$ = 17.8 g L-1, Ccat = 2.5 g L-1, initial pH = 3.0 and T = 50℃. At those selected conditions, the pillared clays showed higher activity than natural clays in the CWPO of 4-NP. The conversion of the model pollutant was complete when Fe/Cu/Zr-PILCs were used, with the TOC removal reaching 78.4% after 24 h with the best Fe/Cu/Zr-PILC. The H2O2, 4-NP and TOC time-evolution was well described by a kinetic model based on TOC lumps in three blocks, considering the initial TOC (corresponding to 4-NP), the production of oxidizable intermediates and the formation of refractory products.
This paper presents an investigation of chemical and sensory properties of Kimchi with red-ripe persimmon. Kimchi with different levels(0, 5, 10, 15%) of real-ripe persimmon was fermented at 4$^{\circ}C$ for 20days. During the fermentation, pH decreased in all Kimchi samples and pH of Kimchi with red-ripe persimmon was a little lower than that of Kimchi without red-ripe persimmon. Acidity increaased continuously and saltiness was maintained at 1.2∼2.2% levels during fermentation. The reducing sugar of Kimchi with red-ripe persimmon was relatively higher than that of the other sample without red-ripe persimmon. Total vitamin C(Vit. C) in Kimchi added red-ripe persimmon increased in the early stage of fermentation and reduced gradually after 4days of fermentation. In the sensory evolution, Kimchi with 10% red-ripe persimmon recorded high scores in taste, flavor, texture and overall acceptability during all fermentation period.
The chemical compositions of groundwaters from the granite areas mainly belong to Ca-HC0$_{3}$ and Na-HC0$_{3}$type, and some of these belong to Ca-(CI+S0$_{4}$) and Na-(CI+S0$_{4}$) type. Spring waters and groundwaters from anorthosite areas belong to Ca-HC03 and Na-HC03 type, respectively. The result of reaction path modeling shows that the chemical compositions of aqueous solution reacted with granite evolve from initial Ca-CI type, via CaHC0$_{3}$ type, to Na-HC0$_{3}$ type. The result of rain water-anorthosite interaction is similar to evolution path of granite reaction and both of these results agree well with the field data. In the reaction path modeling of rain watergranite/anorthosite reaction, as a reaction is progressing, the activity of hydrogen ion decreases (pH increases). The concentrations of cations are controlled by the dissolution of rock-forming minerals and precipitation and re-dissolution of secondary minerals according to the pH. The continuous addition of granite causes the formation of secondary minerals in the following sequence; gibbsite plus hematite, Mn-oxide, kaolinite, silica, chlorite, muscovite (a proxy for illite here), calcite, laumontite, prehnite, and finally analcime. In the anorthosite reaction, the order of precipitation of secondary minerals is the same as with granite reaction except that there is no silica precipitation and paragonite precipitates instead of analcime. The silica and kaolinite are predominant minerals in the granite and anorthosite reactions, respectively. Total quantities of secondary minerals in the anorthosite reaction are more abundant than those in the granite reaction.
We present the Yonsei evolutionary population synthesis (YEPS) models based on the high-resolution empirical spectral energy distributions (SEDs). We have adopted the MILES library in the optical wavelength, and our new models based on the MILES library show good agreements with our previous models presented in the YEPS I. The effect of hot horizontal-branch (HB) stars on the integrated properties of simple stellar populations (SSPs) is again confirmed by our models based on empirical SEDs. In addition, we have extended our empirical models to the near-IR wavelength and predicted the strengths of the calcium II triplet (CaT) and the Paschen triplet (PaT) based on the INDO-US and the Cenarro library. We find that the effect of HB stars and the age of SSPs on the CaT is almost negligible. On the other hands, the PaT models are very sensitive to the existence of hot stars, e.g., HB stars and young turn-off stars, and show very similar results with Balmer lines. Interestingly, the CaT distribution of GCs in NGC 1407, which is at odds with the optical (B-I) color distribution, can be explained by the unique feature of the CaT-[Fe/H] relations that show almost the same equivalent widths in the metal-rich regime. We will also discuss the impact of the second-generation populations on the strength of the CaT.
A microstructure-based finite element simulation was conducted to predict the plastic strain ratio (R-value) of a dual-phase (DP) steel. The representative volume elements (RVEs) concept was adopted for the image-based FE modeling and a 3D model was constructed using sequential 2D images. Each phase was considered with the von-Mises yield criterion and the Swift model. The Swift parameters were defined by the empirical equations based on the chemical composition. The developed model was applied to analyze the effect of residual stress on the R-value and stress distribution. In order to consider the residual stress development after cold rolling, 10 % compression was applied in the thickness direction and unloaded before the tensile stress was applied in the rolling direction. The results showed a reasonable prediction for the R-value evolution: a sharp increase at small strains was well described and a transition followed in the downward direction. The R-value evolution was analyzed using the stress distribution change on the π-plane
In the Xanthan gum fermentation by Xanthomonas campestris there are problems of the large energy consumption by long fermentation time, the mass transfer of oxygen and nutrients by high viscous fermentation broth. In this study, the media optimization and the fed batch fermentation were carried out to decrease fermentation time and increase Xanthan gum yield. The $O_2$ uptake rate (OUR) and $CO_2$ evolution rate(CER) which were obtained from the analysis of fermentation exit gas using a gas chromatograph were investigated. As a result, the fermentation time decreased at optimal assimilable nitrogen concentration but increased at poor or rich assimilable nitrogen concentration, the Xanthan gum biosynthesis was stimulated under the limited condition of assimilable nitrogen source and the optimum fermentation medium was obtained as follow; Glucose=30g / l, Peptone=8.0g / l, $K_2HPO_4=2.0g/l$, $MgS0_47H_2O=10g/l$, Sodium acetate=20g/l, Sodium pyruvate=0.5g/1. As the agitation speed and nitrogen concentration increased, the $O_2$ uptake rate and $CO_2$ evolution rate increased. The OUR and CER were 37.3mmol $O_2/\;l$ hr and 20.2 mmol $CO_2/\;L$ hr at peptone 11g / l and agitation speed 990RPM, respectively. In fed batch fermentation, the final concentration of Xanthan gum was enhanced up to 29g / l.
This study investigated the production of hydrogen over Ga (1.0, 2.0, and 5.0 mol%)-$TiO_2$ photocatalysts prepared by a solvothermal method. The absorption band was slightly blue-shifted upon the incorporation of the gallium ions, but the intensity of the photoluminescence (PL) curves of Ga-incorporated $TiO_2$s was distinguishably smaller, with the smallest case being the 2.0 mol% Ga-$TiO_2$, which was related to the recombination between the excited electrons and holes. $H_2$ evolution from photo splitting of water over Ga-incorporated $TiO_2$ in the liquid system was enhanced, compared to that over pure $TiO_2$; particularly, the production of 5.6 mL of $H_2$ gas after 8 h when 1.5 g of the 2.0 mol% Ga-incorporated $TiO_2$ was used.
Two new species of poecilostomatoid copepod associates, each belonging to the genera Anthessius and Herrmannella, taken from the razor clams of the genus Solen, are described from the Yellow Sea coast.
