  • Fe-(10, 24 wt.%) Gd-B 합금을 진공 주조하고 상분석과 내식성 평가 및 표면 경도를 측정하였다. 주조된 Fe-10 wt.% Gd-B 합금의 상은 주로 $Fe_2Gd$, $Fe_3Gd$, $B_4FeGd$, $GdB_2$이었으며, Fe-24 wt.% Gd-B 합금은 주로 $Fe_2Gd$, $Fe_3Gd$, $Fe_9Gd$, $Fe_{17}Gd_2$, $B_4FeGd$, $GdB_2$이었다. 인공해수 분위기에서의 부식 속도와 부식 전위는 각각 2.771, 2.914 [$mA/cm^2$]과 -623.9, -607.8 [$mV_{SHE}$]이었다. 표면 경도는 각각 220, 208 [Hv] 이었다. Gd 함량이 증가할수록 부식 속도는 증가하였고 표면 경도는 감소하는 경향을 보였다.

  • The new green and red phosphors for PDP application activated by T $b^{3+}$ and E $u^{3+}$ were synthesized, and their photoluminance properties were investigated. It was found that the brightness of $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ :T $b^{3+}$ green phosphor under 147nm VUV irradiation was higher than that of commercial Z $n_2$ $SiO_4$:M $n^{2+}$ phosphor. But the emitting intensity of A1$_3$Gd $B_4$ $O^{12}$ :E $u^{3+}$ red phosphor was inferior to the commercial (Y,Gd)B $O_3$:E $u^{3+}$. $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ Phosphor had a strong excitation band at 160nm associated with the host absorption, and also the photoluminance excitation intensity of $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ :T $b^{3+}$ was higher than that of Z $n_2$ $SiO_4$:M $n^{2+}$, but the intensity of $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ :E $u^{3+}$ phosphor was smaller than (Y,Gd)B $O_3$:E $u^{3+}$ phosphor In the VUV range. C $e^{3+}$ co-doping in A1$_3$Gd $B_4$ $O^{12}$ :E $u^{3+}$ and substitution of $Al^{3+}$ by G $a^{3+}$ A1$_3$Gd $B_4$ $O^{12}$ :E $u^{3+}$ phosphor were tried, but they did not improved the optical property .d the optical property .ty .

  • The new green $Al_3GdB_4O_{12}:Tb^{3+} and red Al_3GdB_4O_{12}:Eu_{3+}$ phosphors were synthesized and then characterized their optical properties for PDP application. And also the photoluminescence properties of these phosphors were compared with the commercial green $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn^{2+} and (Y,Gd)BO_3: Eu^{3+}$ red PDP phosphors. The phosphors were synthesized by solid state reaction at 115$0^{\circ}C$ for 4hr. It was found that the emitting brightness of $Al_3GdB_4O_{12}:Tb^{3+}$(15mol%) green phosphor under 147nm excitation was higher than that of commercial $Zn_2SiO_4: Mn^{2+}$ green PDP phosphor. However, the color coordinate of this new green phosphor was inferior to the commercial one. On the other hand, the emitting intensity of $Al_3GdB_4O_{12}:Eu^{3+}$(15mol%) red phosphor was smaller than the $commercial(Y,Gd)BO_3: Eu^{3+}$ red one, but the CIE coordinate was slightly improved. The excitation spectrum showed that $Al_3GdB_4O_{12}$ phosphors had a strong excitation band at $\lambda=160nm$ associated with the host absorption. And the photoluminance excitation (PLE) intensity in VUV range for $Al_3GdB_4O_{12}:Tb^{3+}$ green phosphor was higher than that of $Zn_2SiO_4: Mn^{2+}$, but the PLE intensity of $Al_3GdB_4O_{12}:Eu^{3+}$ red phosphor was smaller than $(Y,Gd)BO_3: Eu^{3+}$.

Anti-oxidative effects of exogenous ganglioside GD1a and GT1b on embryonic developmental competence in pigs

  • Gangliosides are glycolipids in which oligosaccharide is combined with sialic acids. Our previous studies have suggested an interplay between ganglioside GD1a/GT1b and meiotic maturation capacity in porcine oocyte maturation. Furthermore, ganglioside GD1a and GT1b are known for its antioxidant activity, but it is still unclear whether possible antioxidant role of GD1a and GT1b is involved in porcine embryos development competence during in vitro culture (IVC). Here, the effects of ganglioside GD1a and GT1b on the embryonic developmental competence during in vitro culture of porcine were investigated. The effects of ganglioside GD1a and GT1b on the expression of ST3GAL2 were confirmed during embryos development (2-cell, 4-cell, 8-cell and blastocyst) using immunofluorescent staining (IF). As a result, the fluorescent expression of ST3GAl2 was higher in embryos at 4-8 cells stage than blastocysts. Blastocyst development rate significantly increased in only 0.1 μM GD1a and GT1b treated groups compared with control group. To investigate the cellular apoptosis, we analyzed TUNEL assay. In case of only 0.1 μM GD1a and GT1b treated groups, the total number of cells in blastocyst compared with control group, but there was no significant difference in the rate of apoptotic cells. We identified the intracellular ROS levels using DCF-DA staining. According to the result, ROS production significantly decreased in blastocysts derived from the 0.1 μM GD1a and GT1b treated groups. These results suggest that ganglioside GD1a and GT1b improve the developmental competence of porcine embryos via reduction of intracellular ROS during preimplantation stage.

Sintering and Oxidation of GdB4 Synthesized by B4C Reduction Method

  • Gadolinium tetraboride ($GdB_4$) was synthesized by reduction of $Gd_2O_3$ using boron carbide in presence of carbon. Effect of temperature on product quality was investigated. Pure $GdB_4$ powder was obtained in vacuum at $1500^{\circ}C$. Pressureless sintering experiments revealed that sintering takes place only above $1600^{\circ}C$. A maximum density of 77.1% of the theoretical value was obtained at $1800^{\circ}C$ by pressureless sintering. Hot pressing resulted in 95.5% of theoretical density at the lower temperature of $1700^{\circ}C$ under 35 MPa pressure. Hardness and fracture toughness of dense $GdB_4$ were measured and found to be 21.4 GPa and $2.3MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, respectively. After exposure to air at $900^{\circ}C$, the formation of a porous and non-protective oxide layer was observed.

  • 성능이 우수한 다성분계 전극을 개발하기 위하여 Ru를 주 전극성분으로 Pt, Sn, Sb 및 Gd를 보조 전극성분으로 하여 3, 4성분계 전극의 성능과 산화제 생성량 및 전극 표면 분석을 행하여 다음의 결과를 얻었다. 1. 2분 동안 단위 W당 제거된 RhB 농토는 Ru:Sn:Sb=9:1:1 > Ru:Pt:Gd=5:5:1 > Ru:Sn=9:1 > Ru:Sn:Gd=9:1:1 > Ru:Sb:Gd=9:1:1로 나타났다. Ru:Sn:Sb=9:1.1 전극에서 발생하는 free Cl, ClO$_2$ 및 H$_2$O$_2$농도가 다른 전극보다 높은 것으로 나타나 산화제 생성경향과 RhB 분해율과는 상관관계가 있는 것으로 사료되었다. 4성분계 전극 중에서 Ru:Sn:Sb:Gd 전극의 성능이 가장 우수한 것으로 나타났으나 3성분계 전극인 Ru:Sn:Sb=9:1.1 전극보다 성능이 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. Ru:Sn:Sb=9:1:1 전극에서 생성되는 산화제 농도가 다른 두 종류의 산화제 농도보다 높은 것으로 나타났고 4성분 전극의 경우 Ru:Sn:Sb:Gd 전극의 산화제 농도가 Ru:Sn:Sb:Gd 전극이 높거나 유사한 경우로 나타나 산화제 생성 경향과 RhB분해 능과는 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 초기 RhB 분해 속도가 높은 전극의 COD 제거율도 높은 것으로 나타났다. OH 라디칼은 발생하지 않지만 염소계 산화제 농도가 높고 RhB제거율이 높아 Ru를 주 성분으로 한 전극의 RhB분해는 주로 간접 산화작용에 의한 것이며, 개발된 3, 4성분계 산화물 전극은 간접 산화용 전극임을 알 수 있었다. 에칭을 하기 전의 Ti판은 표면이 매끄러운 것으로 나타났으며, 35% 염산으로 에칭한 후의 Ti메쉬는 매우 거친 표면조직을 가지는 것을 관찰할 수 있었다. Ru:Sn:Sb=9:1:1 전극과 Ru:Sn:Sb:Gd 전극의 SEM 사진을 관찰한 결과 두 전극 모두 전극 물질이 균일하게 도포되어 있었으며, 두 전극 모두 열소성을 통해 전극 성분을 코팅할 때 발생하는 "mud crack"이 발생한 것이 관찰되었다 EDX 분석에서 Cl이 관찰되었는데, 전극 성분의 불완전 산화로 인한 비양론적 산화물 때문이며 이는 RhB 분해성능과 관련 있는 것으로 사료되었다.

Characterization of Anti-anti-idiotypic Antibodies (Ab3) Induced by Immunization of Anti-idiotypic Antibodies (Ab2) Mimicking Disialoganglioside GD2 (Disialoganglioside GD2의 Anti-idiotypic Antibody (Ab2)에 의해 유도된 Anti-anti-idiotypic Antibodies (Ab3)의 특성)

  • Background: Disialoganglioside GD2 is a tumor-associated antigen that is overexpressed on tumor cells of neuroectodermal origin, such as melanoma and neuroblastoma. Anti-idiotypic antibodies that mimic GD2 may induce more effective immune responses than GD2 antigen itself, because they are protein antigens and are known to be able to break immune tolerance. In this study, to explore the potential of anti-idiotypic antibodies as tumor vaccines, the ability of anti-idiotypic antibodies (Ab2) to induce anti-anti-idiotypic antibodies (Ab3) that bind to the original antigen GD2 was investigated. Methods: Six monoclonal anti-idiotypic antibodies (1A8, 1G5, 2B6, 3A4, 3D6, 3H9) to monoclonal antibody M2058, which is a monoclonal antibody to GD2, were produced in mice. Three (1A8, 3A4, 3H9) of them were selected based on their ability to inhibit the binding of Ab1 to D142.34 (murine melanoma cell expressing GD2). These 3 different Ab2 were injected into rabbits, and rabbit Ab3 induced by each of them were characterized. Results: Ab3-containing sera from two rabbits immunized with 1A8, 3A4, or 3H9 bound significantly (P<0.05) to D142.34 but not to B78.96 (GD2-negative cell), and bound significantly (P<0.05) to isolated GD2 but not to GD1a. Ab3-containing sera from two rabbits immunized with 3A4 or 3H9 inhibited significantly (P<0.05) the binding of Ab1 M2058 to D142.34, and inhibited significantly (P<0.05) the binding of Ab1 M2058 to the Ab2. Conclusion: These results suggest that anti-idiotypic antibodies 3A4 and 3H9 have a potential to be used as vaccines against tumors expressing GD2 by inducing GD2-specific antibodies (Ab3).

  • The interest in the use of borate crystals in ultraviolet(UV) nonlinear optics(NLO) has increased because all solid-stste UV lasers obtained with NLO are in highly demand. Much effort has been spent on developing borates series, such as{{{{ { beta -BaB }_{2 } {O }_{4 }(BBO), {LiB }_{ 3}{O }_{5 }(LBO)}}}} and{{{{{ CsKiB}_{6 }{O }_{10 }(CLBO)}}}} in this decade. Recently another new borate crystals, {{{{{ YCa}_{4 }O({BO }_{3 })_{3}}}}} and{{{{{Gd }_{x }{Y }_{1-x }{Ca }_{4 }O({BO }_{ 3})({Gd }_{x }{Y }_{1-x }COB)}}}} have been developed by the present authors. Here, the growth and NLO properties of YCOB and {{{{ {Gd }_{ x} {Y }_{ 1-x} }}}}CO B crystal are reported and their properties discussed in relation to those of other nonlinear optical crystals, such as LBO.

  • Some of endocrine disruptors with sexual hormone-like effects have been increasingly reported to be immunotoxic in many species in recent several years. Phthalate esters have possible effects on the endocrine system. Prenatal exposure to di(n-butyl) phthalate (DBP) has been reported to impair the androgen-dependent development of the male reproductive tract in rat. Therefore, the immunomodulatory effect of DBP was investigated in the developing immune system of fetal and neonatal Sprague-Dawley rats. Timed-bred pregnant SD rats were given to the doses of 0, 250, 500, and 750 mg DBP/kg$\cdot$ body weight /day by gavage once a day from gestational day (GD) 5 to 18. On GD19 or GD22/postnatal day one (PD1), the dams were euthanized, and the changes in organ weights and thymus phenotypes were examined for their offsprings. At 750 mg DBP/kg$\cdot$b.w./day in maternal exposure group, GD19 fetuses showed decreases in body weight. The spleen/body weight ratios were reduced in GD 19 fetuses from the dams exposed to 500 and 750 mg DBP/kg$\cdot$b.w./day. There were no significant changes in thymus and spleen cellularities though these cellularities showed a tendency to decrease in a dose dependent way. In the DBP-exsposed GD22/PD1 offsprings, the body weights, the relative organ weights and the cellularities did not exhibit alteration. Additionally, the percentages of CD3$^{+}$(CD4$^{+}$CD8$^{+}$, CD4$^{+}$CD8$^{-}$, CD4$^{-}$CD8$^{+}$, and CD4$^{-}$CD8$^{-}$) and CD3$^{-}$(CD4$^{+}$CD8$^{+}$, CD4$^{+}$CD8$^{-}$, CD4$^{-}$CD8$^{+}$, and CD4$^{-}$CD8$^{-}$) thymocyte subsets were not changed in any DBP-treated group. The proliferative responses of splenic T cells to Con A and B cells to LPS were decreased in all DBP-exposed GD22/PD1 offsprings.

1, 2성분계 DSA 전극의 제조와 성능 평가

  • 성능이 우수한 다성분계 전극을 개발하기 위하여 Pt, Ru, Sn, Sb 및 Gd의 5 종류 금속을 이용하여 1성분계 전극의 성능과 산화제 생성량 및 2성분계 전극의 성능과 산화제 생성 경향을 고찰하여 다음의 결과를 얻었다. 1. RhB 농도 감소는 Ru/Ti > Sb/Ti > Pt/Ti > Sn/Ti > Gd/Ti 전극의 순서로 나타났으나 단위 전력당 2분간 제거된 RhB 농도 감소는 Ru/Ti > Sb/Ti > Pt/Ti > Gd/Ti > Sn/Ti 전극의 순서로 나타났다. 생성된 산화제 농도는 ClO$_2$ > free Cl > H$_2$O$_2$ > O$_3$의 순서였으며 Gd/Ti 전극의 경우 산화제가 거의 생성되지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 모든 전극에서 OH 라디칼이 거의 생성되지 않는 것으로 나타났다. Ru/Ti와 Sb/Ti 전극의 높은 RhB 분해와 산화제 생성 농도는 정확하지는 않지만 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 2. Ru계 2성분 전극(Ru-Gd/Ti, Ru-Pt/Ti, Ru-Sn/Ti 및 Ru-Sb/Ti)은 모두 1성분계 전극보다 RhB 분해성능이 높아지는 것으로 나타났으며, Ru계 2성분 전극 중 가장 성능이 우수하였던 전극은 Ru:Sn=9:1 전극으로 나타났다. Sn-Sb/Ti 전극은 Sn:Sb=1:9의 전극 성능이 우수한 것으로 나타났으나 Sb/Ti 전극과의 차이는 크지 않은 것으로 나타났다. Pt계 전극(Pt-Gd/Ti, Pt-Sn/Ti, Pt-Sb/Ti)은 대체로 두 성분 혼합에 따른 RhB 분해효과 상승은 없는 것으로 나타났다. 2성분계 전극 중 RhB 제거 성능이 가장 우수하였던 Ru:Sn=9:1 전극에서 4종류의 산화제 생성 농도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. Ru:Pt=9:1 전극은 RhB 분해 성능이 5 전극 중 가장 낮았으며, 산화제도 생성량이 가장 적은 것으로 나타났다. Ru-Sn/Ti 계 전극의 RhB 분해 성능과 산화제 생성 농도가 실험한 모든 1, 2성분계 전극에서 높은 것으로 나타나 향후 3, 4성분계 전극 제조시 이를 바탕으로 제조하고 다른 물질들은 보조재료로서 사용할 필요성이 있는 것으로 사료되었다.
