Effects of Dietary Chelated Fe and Yeast Fe on Growth Performance and Body Composition in Broiler Chicks (유기태 철과 효모철의 첨가급여가 육계의 성장 및 체조성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of dietary Saccharomyces cerevisiae (wild yeast mutant) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae hFeHLC (ferritin containing yeast) and chelated Fe on growth performance and body composition of broiler chicks. A total of 252 (1-day old) 'Ross' broiler chicks were allotted to seven dietary treatments: I) control without iron supplementation, 2) 0.1% wild yeast mutant (YM03), 3) 1.0% wild yeast mutant, 4) 0.1% ferritin containing yeast (YF04), 5) 1.0% ferritin containing yeast, 6) 0.01% chelated Fe and 7) 0.1% chelated Fe. The highest weight gain obtained from broilers fed 0.01% chelated Fe was 2,121g, the lowest weight gain obtained from broilers fed control diet was 2.087g. The growth performance results were not significantly different in weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion ratio of broilers diets containing wild yeast, ferritin containing yeast and chelated Fe supplementation and control diets (P>0.05). The lowest iron content in meat was for control 30.51 mg/dL and the highest Fe content was for 0.1% ferritin containing yeast 41.58 mg/dL, but these were not significantly different (P>0.05).

  • In this study, the ion-gelation method was applied to fabricate novel Fe-carbon-bentonite-alginate beads ($Fe^0$/C-BABs). $Fe^0$/C-BABs could effectively control Fe release during persulfate (PS) activation in N-acetyl-p-aminophenol (APAP) oxidation. A novel two-stage approach that combined $Fe^0$/C-BABs and an oyster-shell-filled bed (OSFB) column was developed to address the low pH and high Fe concentration of the effluent of the traditional PS process. The application of the $Fe^0$/C-BABs and OSFB column regulated pH levels and Fe release during the advanced oxidation of APAP. The characteristics of $Fe^0$/C-BABs were also investigated through scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The long-term operation performance of $Fe^0$/C-BABs in a continuous fixed-bed reactor under simultaneous PS and APAP feeding was also evaluated. The effects of initial PS concentration, pH, fixed-bed weight, in-flow rate, and dissolved oxygen (DO) were investigated. Under selected conditions, 86.3% efficiency was achieved during the first stage of APAP degradation (effluent pH of 3.05, Fe contents: $106.25mgL^{-1}$). Water quality improved after the effluent was passed through the OSFB column (effluent pH of 6.32, Fe contents: $21.43mgL^{-1}$). Moreover, this study analyzed the free radicals and intermediates produced during APAP degradation to identify the possible routes of APAP degradation.

Effects of Dietary Fe Sources on Productivity and Egg Composition in Laying Hens (유기태 철과 효모 철의 첨가가 산란계의 생산성 및 난 성분에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (wild yeast mutant), Saccharomyces cerevisiae hFeHLC (ferritin containgig yeast) and chelated Fe diets on the Productivity and egg qualify of laying hens. A total of 245 'Brown Tetra' layers 35 weeks aged was randomly alloted to seven dietary treatments : 1) control diet no iron added, 2) diet supplemented $0.1\%$ wild yeast mutant (YM03), 3) diet supplemented $1.0\%$ wild yeast mutant (YM03), 4) diet supplemented $0.1\%$ ferritin with yeast (YF04), 5) diet supplemented $1.0\%$ ferritin with yeast (YF04), 6) diet supplemented $0.01\%$ chelated Fe and 7) diet supplemented $0.1\%$ chelated Fe. The egg Production rate was significantly increased in layers 134 Fe supplemented diets (p<0.05). Egg weight was significantly reduced in layers fed $0.1\%$ chelated Fe diet (P<0.05). Fe content of egg yolk was significantly increased in $1.0\%$ YF04 and $0.1\%$ chelated Fe treatments (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in shape index, albumin index and yolk index of eggs of layers fed diets Fe supplementation (P>0.05). The haugh unit of eggs was significantly increased in layers fed YM03, YF04 and chelated Fe supplemented diets (p<0.05). TBA value of egg was significantly increased in different iron Fe treatments except of $0.1\%$ YM03 (P<0.05). The yolk cole. of eggs was significantly increased in $1.0\%$ YF04 diet (P<0.05).

The development and the magnetic properties of sheet hexaferrite magnets (Hexaferrite 쉬트자석의 개발과 자기적 성질에 관한 연구)

  • In order to study the effect of additives $SiO_{2}$ on the magnetic properties of hexaferrite sheet magnet, we used X-ray diffractometer, Mossbauer spectrometer, and VSM magnetometer. We have prepared $Ba_{0.25}Sr_{0.75}Fe_{12}O_{19}$ green sheets by the Dr. Blade method. Most of samples have a magnetoplurnbite crystal structure of typical M-type hexaferrite. The lattice parameters are found not to be affected by the addition of $SiO_{2}$. ${\alpha}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ phase develops above $SiO_{2}$ 2.0 wt.%. Isomer shifts indicate that the valence of Fe ions is trivalent. Curie temperatures decrease slightly with increasing $SiO_{2}$ concentrations. It means that the $Si^{4+}$ subsitution for 12k-site $Fe^{3+}$ has an effect on the superexchange interactions Fe-O-Fe, which change the distance and the angle between cations and anions. It was suggested that ${\alpha}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ phase results from the excessive Fe produced by subsituting $Si^{4+}$ for $Fe^{3+}$. Based upon the results of $Ba_{0.25}Sr_{0.75}Fe_{12}O_{19}$ added with $SiO_{2}$, we concluded that $H_{c}$, $M_{s}$ and $M_{r}$ depend more strongly on the microstructure chracteristics than on the cation substitution.

Study of Nonstoichiometry and Physical Properties of the $Nd_{1-x}(Ba_{0.40}Mg_{0.60})_{1+x}FeO_{4-y}$ System

  • A series of samples of the Nd1-x(Ba0.40Mg0.60)1+xFeO4-y (x=0.00, 0.10, 0.20, and 0.30) system has been synthesized at 1450 ℃ under an atmospheric air pressure. The x-ray powder diffraction analysis of the solid solutions assigns the structure of all the compositions to orthorhombic system. Mohr salt analysis shows that τ and y values increase with x value and nonstoichiometric chemical formulas of the system can be formulated from the x, τ, and y values. Oxygen vacancies are distributed along c-axis in the perovskite layer. The magnetic ordering temperature remains unchanged with x value. Electrical conductivity and activation energy depend only on the mixed valence state of Fe ion. Conduction mechanism can be suggested as the hopping of electron between eg orbitals of Fe3+ and Fe4+ ions through Fe3+-O-Fe4+ bonds. Magnetic susceptibility and electrical conductivity are discussed with the nonstoichiometric chemical formulas.

Crystal Chemistry of Ilmenite from the Hadong anorthosite Massif (하동 회장암체 내에서 산출하는 티탄철석의 결정화학)

  • The detailed crystal chemistry of ilmenite from the Hadong massif was studied by the EPMA, M ssbauer spectroscopy, and Rietveld structural refinement using X-ray powder diffraction data. The ilmenite-bearing anorthosite shows complicated mineral assemblage which consists of plagioclase, clinopyroxene, hornblende, biotite, chlorite, apatite, allanite, and zircon. Anorthite is andesine in composition (Ab 28-57), and clinopyroxene drops in ferro-hypersthene (Fs 62-70). Ilmenite is trigonal symmetry with R space group, whose structure shows the alternation of Fe2+ (M1 site) octahedral layer and Ti (M2 site) layer along c axis. M ssbauer spectroscopy indicates that there are three doubles which assigned to couple of Fe2+($\delta$=0.812, 0.890mm/sec) and one Fe3+($\delta$=0.303mm/sec) in octahedral sites. Their Fe3+/$\Sigma$Fe is 0.065 and chemical formula is established as Fe2+0.94Fe3+0.07Ti0.97O3 using both EPMA and M ssbauer analysis. Rietveld structural refinement reveals that site occupancies of Fe in M1 and Ti in M2 are 91.2% and 89.4%, respectively. This implies that Ti and Fe2+ are alternatively occupy M1 and M2 sites. In addition, smaller M2 site is more preferable to Fe3+ occupancy over M1.

Solid State Reduction and Magnetic Properties of Iron Oxide-Iron System Induced by Ball Milling Process (볼밀링에 의한 철산화물-철계의 고상 환원반응 및 자기특성)

  • The structure and magnetic properties of composite powders prepared by ball milling a mixture of Fe2O3·(0.4-1.0)Fe were investigated. Hysteresis loops and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curves are used to characterize the materials and to examine the effect of the solid state reaction induced by ball milling. The results showed that a solid state reaction in Fe2O3·(0.4-1.0)Fe clearly proceeds after only 1 h of ball milling. The system is characterized by a positive reaction heat of +2.23 kcal/mole. The diffraction lines related to Fe2O3 and Fe disappeared after 1 h of ball milling and, instead, diffraction lines of the intermediate phase of Fe3O4 plus FeO formed. The magnetization and coercivity of the Fe2O3·0.8Fe powders were changed by the solid state reaction process of Fe2O3 by Fe during ball milling. The coercivity of the Fe2O3·0.8Fe powders increased with increasing milling time and reached a maximum value of 340 Oe after 5 h of ball milling. This indicates the grain size of Fe3O4 was clearly reduced during ball milling. The magnetic properties of the annealed powders depend on the amount of magnetic Fe and Fe3O4 phases.

Niobian Sphene from the McDonald Pegmatite Mine, Bancroft, Ontarion, Canada: Consideration of Substitutions (카나다 온타리오 밴크로프트의 맥도날도 페그마타이트 광산에서 산출된 Nb Sphene: 원소 치환에 관한 고찰)

  • Sphene from the McDonald pegmatite near Bancroft, Ontario, Canada was analyzed using EPMA. It contains 4.3 to 6.3 weight percent of Nb2O5 with an average formula Ca1.02(Ti0.62Al0.22Nb0.07Fe0.06Ta0.01)Si0.99(O4.85F0.16). Three types of subtitutions are possible; 1)2Ti4+=(Nb, Ta)5+ + (Al, Fe3+), 2) Ti + O = (Al, Fe3+) + (F, OH), and 3) 2Ti + O = Fe2+ + (Nb, Ta)5+ + (F, OH). T재 different schemes of substitutions for balancing the analysis are considered when the iron is either all ferric or all ferrous. Assuming stoichiometry fo Ca and Si, a general formula derived from the two different schemes is Ca(Ti0.64Al0.22Fe3+0.06-X {{{{Fe_{x}^{2+} }} Nb0.01)Sio4.80-XF0.16(OH)0.04+x.

Mossbauer Studies of $Cu_{0.95}Ge_{0.95}Fe_{0.1}O_3$ (Mossbauer 분광법에 의한 $Cu_{0.95}Ge_{0.95}Fe_{0.1}O_3$의 연구)

  • Magnetic properties and crystallographic properties of $Cu_{0.95}Ge_{0.95}Fe_{0.1}O_3$ were studied by using x-ray diffraction, superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) and Mossbauer spectroscopy. Our sample has orthorhombic structure and the lattice constants are a = 4.795 $\AA$, b = 8.472 $\AA$, c = 2.932 $\AA$. The spin-Peierls (SP) transition temperatures of our sample is 13 K. The Mossbauer spectra consisted with two Zeeman sextets and one doublet due to $Fe^{3+}$ions. The Zeeman sextets come from tetrahedral $Fe^{3+}$ions and the doublets come from octahedral $Fe^{3+}$ions. The jump up of magnetic hyperfine field of 2nd Zeeman sextet and the increasing of the values of quadrupole splitting and isomer shift of doublet below SP transition temperature could be interpreted related with the atomic displacements. The N el temperature is 715 K, the Debye temperature are 540 K for octahedral site and 380 K for tetrahedral site, respectively.

Magnetoresistance of $[FeNi/Cu/CoFe(Co)/Cu]_N$ Spin-Valve Multilayers ($[FeNi/Cu/CoFe(Co)/Cu]_N$ Spin-Valve 다층박막의 자기저항 특성)

  • $Buffer/[NiFe/Cu/CoFe(Co)/Cu]_N$ spin valve multilayers prepared by dc magnetron sputtering on a corning glass substrate using NiFe and CoFe(Co) posses different coercivities. Dependence of magnetoresistance on the type and thickness of buffer layer, thickness of Cu, NiFe, stacking number of multilayer, substrate temperature and annealing temperature in the form $[NiFe/Cu/CoFe(Co)/Cu]_N$ spin-valve multilayers were investigated. To evaluate effect of magnetoresistance for this samples, X-ray diffraction analysis, vibrating sample magnetometer analysis, and magnetoresistance measurement (4-probe method) were performed the maximum magnetoresistance ratio and coercivity were 7.5 % and 140 Oe, respectively for $Cr-50{\AA}/[NiFe-20{\AA}/Cu-{\AA}/Co-20{\AA}/Cu-50{\AA}]_10$ at substrate temperature of 9$0^{\circ}C$. Magnetoresistance slope maintained 0.25%/Oe until 15$0^{\circ}C$ of annealing temperature, and then decreased to 0.03%/Oe at 20$0^{\circ}C$. It was confirmed that the main factor of thermal stability was deteriorating of soft magnetic properties in the NiFe layer.
