Results of 6 nights of CCD VR photometry of the nova-like variable V603 Aquilae (Nova Aquilae 1918) obtained at the Mallorcian 35-cm telescope in July 2004 are reported. The ephemeris for the superhump maximum is Max.HJD=2453213.60546(96)+0.14813(10)E. The waves with $3.^d9,\;1.^d4,\;0.^d135$ are statistically significant, which may be interpreted as the negative superhump-orbital, the beat periods (negative superhump- positive superhump) and the negative superhump with low amplitude, respectively. Another possible time-scale is $0.^d8,$ which has no coincidence with the beat periods. Quasi-periodic oscillations with an effective period of 18 minutes have been detected, which are close to 15.6 minutes reported by some authors. Their effective semi-amplitudes are $^m.045\;and\;0^m.051$ for V and R, respectively. This corresponds to the 0.12 mag excess in the color index V-R as compared with the mean color, which can be understood as the pulsed emission in the hotter inner parts of the accretion disk, similar to that observed in TT Ari and MV Lyr.
We have investigated interplanetary (IP) structures of 82 intense geomagnetic storms (Dst $\leq$ -100 nT) that occurred from 1998 to 2006. According to their interplanetary origins, we classified them as four groups: 20 sMC events (IP shock and MC), 19 SH events (sheath field), 12 SH+MC events (Sheath field and MC), and 8 nonMC events (non-MC type ICME). For each group, we examined the relationships between Dst index and solar/IP parameters, namely, direction parameter (DP), CME speed ($V_{CME}$), solar wind speed ($V_{SW}$), minimum of IMF $B_z$ component($Bz_{min}$), and maximum of $E_y$ component ($Ey_{max}$).We found that the relationships strongly depend on their IP source. Our main results can be summarized as follows: 1) The correlation between Dst and DP is the best for the SH+MC events (r = -0.61). 2) The relationship between Dst and $V_{CME}$ gives the best correlation for the sMC events (r = -0.56). 3) There is the best correlation between Dst and $V_{SW}$ for the sMC events (r = -0.61), while there is a very weak correlation (r=-0.17) for the SH events. 4) The relationship between Dst and $Bz_{min}$ gives the best correlation (r = -0.87) for the SH+MC events. 5) The correlation between Dst and $Ey_{max}$ is the best for the SH+MC events (r = -0.87). Summing up, the sMC and SH+MC events give us good correlations, but the SH events, weak correlations. From this study, we suggest that this tendency should be caused by the characteristics of IMF southward components, e.g., smooth field rotations for the MC events and highly IMF fluctuations for the SH events.
This study was carried out to establish a proper cultivation site and diagnose the drought tolerance of Pleurospermum camtschaticum, Cirsium setidens and Parasenecio firmus leaves by using pressure-volume curves. The result of ${\Psi}_o^{sat}$ and ${\Psi}_o^{tlp}$ were lower in Pleurospermum camtschaticum leaves. On the other hand, it appeared that $E_{max}$ of Pleurospermum camtschaticum was approximately six times higher than that of Parasenecio firmus. The values of $RWC^{tlp}$ is all above 88% showing that the function of osmoregulation is somewhat better, and Vo/DW, Vt/DW, Ns/DW of Pleurospermum camtschaticum leaves were approximately 2~4 times Lower than other ones. Thus, responses to water relations of Pleurospermum camtschaticum, Cirsium setidens and Parasenecio firmus such as ${\Psi}_o^{sat}$, ${\Psi}_o^{tlp}$, $E_{max}$, ${\Psi}_{P,max}$, $RWC^{tlp}$ were shown that the Pleurospermum camtschaticum leave was higher drought tolerance than Cirsium setidens and Parasenecio firmus leaves.

This study investigated crystal structures, microstructures, and electric-field-induced strain (EFIS) properties of Bi-based lead-free ferroelectric/relaxor composites. Bi1/2Na0.82K0.18)1/2TiO3 (BNKT) as a ferroelectric material and 0.78Bi1/2(Na0.78K0.22)1/2TiO3-0.02LaFeO3 (BNKT2LF) as a relaxor material were synthesized using a conventional solid-state reaction method, and the resulting BNKT2LF powders were subjected to high-energy ball milling (HEBM) after calcination. As a result, HEBM proved a larger average grain size of sintered samples compared to conventional ball milling (CBM). In addition, the increased sintering time led to grain growth. Furthermore, HEBM treatment and sintering time demonstrated a significant effect on EFIS of BNKT/BNKT2LF composites. At 6 kV/mm, 0.35% of the maximum strain (Smax) was observed in the HEBM sample sintered for 12 h. The unipolar strain curves of CBM samples were almost linear, indicating almost no phase transitions, while HEBM samples displayed phase transitions at 5~6 kV/mm for all sintering time levels, showing the highest Smax/Emax value of 700 pm/V. These results indicated that HEBM treatment with a long sintering time might significantly enhance the electromechanical strain properties of BNT-based ceramics.
Several aspects of photoperception and light signal transduction have been elucidated by studies with model plants. However, the information available for economically important crops, such as Fabaceae species, is scarce. In order to incorporate the existing genomic tools into a strategy to advance soybean research, we have investigated publicly available expressed sequence tag (EST) sequence databases in order to identify Glycine max sequences related to genes involved in light-regulated developmental control in model plants. Approximately 38,000 sequences from open-access databases were investigated, and all bona fide and putative photoreceptor gene families were found in soybean sequence databases. We have identified G. max orthologs for several families of transcriptional regulators and cytoplasmic proteins mediating photoreceptor-induced responses, although some important Arabidopsis phytochrome-signaling components are absent. Moreover, soybean and Arabidopsis genefamily homologs appear to have undergone a distinct expansion process in some cases. We propose a working model of light perception, signal transduction and response-eliciting in G. max, based on the identified key components from Arabidopsis. These results demonstrate the power of comparative genomics between model systems and crop species to elucidate several aspects of plant physiology and metabolism.

A field experiment was conducted to assess the growth characteristics, seed and oil yield of two cultivars of soybean (G max (L.) Merr.) cv. PK-416 ($V_1$) and cv. PK-1024 ($V_2$) in relation to sulphur and nitrogen nutrition. Six combinations ($T_1-T_6$) of two levels of sulphur (0 and 40 kg $ha^{-1}$) and two levels of nitrogen (23.5 and 43.5 kg $ha^{-1}$) were applied to the two soybean cultivars as nutrients. Results indicated significant effect of sulphur and nitrogen, when applied together, on the growth characteristics, yield components, and seed and oil yield. Maximum response was observed with treatment $T_6$ (having 40 kg S and 43.5 kg N $ha^{-1}$). Seed and Oil yields were increased 90 and $102\%$ in $V_1$> and 104 and $123\%$ in $V_2$, respectively as compared to the control i.e. $T_1$ (having 0 kg S and 23.5 kg N $ha^{-1}$). Positive responses of S and N interaction on leaf area index, leaf area duration, crop growth rate and biomass production were also observed. The results obtained in these experiments clearly suggest that balanced and judicious application of nitrogen and sulphur can improve both seed and oil yield of soybean cultivars by enhancing their growth.

We researched damage formation and failure mechanism under DC(direct current) and AC(alternative current) in order to estimate reliability of Cu interconnects in ULSI. Higher current density and temperature induces more short TTF(time to failure) during interconnects carry DC. Measurement reveals that Cu electromigration has activation energy of 0.96eV and current density exponent value of 4. Thermal fatigue is occurred under DC, and higher frequency and ${\Delta}$T value gives more severe damage during interconnects carry AC Through failure morphology analysis with respect to texture, we observed that damages had grown widely and facetted grains had appeared in (100)grain but damages in (111) had grown thickness direction of line and had induced a failure rapidly.

Vibrio cholerae utilizes mannitol through an operon of the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent phosphotransferase (PTS) type. A gene, mtlD, encoding mannitol-1-phosphate dehydrogenase was identified within the 3.9 kb mannitol operon of V. cholerae. The mtlD gene was cloned from V. cholerae O395, and the recombinant enzyme was functionally expressed in E. coli as a $6{\times}$His-tagged protein and purified to homogeneity. The recombinant protein is a monomer with a molecular mass of 42.35 kDa. The purified recombinant MtlD reduced fructose 6-phosphate (F6P) using NADH as a cofactor with a $K_m$ of $1.54{\pm}0.1$ mM and $V_{max}$ of $320.8{\pm}7.81\;{\mu}mol$/min/mg protein. The pH and temperature optima for F6P reduction were determined to be 7.5 and $37^{\circ}C$, respectively. Using quantitative real-time PCR analysis, mtlD was found to be constitutively expressed in V. cholerae, but the expression was up-regulated when grown in the presence of mannitol. The MtlD expression levels were not significantly different between V. cholerae O1 and non-O1 strains.

A hardware design of LDPC decoder which is based on the improved normalized min-sum(INMS) decoding algorithm is described in this paper. The designed LDPC decoder supports 19 block lengths(576~2304) and 6 code rates(1/2, 2/3A, 2/3B, 3/4A, 3/4B, 5/6) of IEEE 802.16e mobile WiMAX standard and 3 block lengths(648, 1296, 1944) and 4 code rates(1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 5/6) of IEEE 802.11n WLAN standard. The decoding function unit(DFU) which is a main arithmetic block is implemented using sign-magnitude(SM) arithmetic and INMS decoding algorithm to optimize hardware complexity and decoding performance. The LDPC decoder synthesized using a 0.18-${\mu}m$ CMOS cell library with 100 MHz clock has 284,409 gates and RAM of 62,976 bits, and it is verified by FPGA implementation. The estimated performance depending on code rate and block length is about 82~218 Mbps at 100 MHz@1.8V.

The effect of Ta substitution on the crystal structure, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties of $Bi_{0.5}(Na_{0.82}K_{0.18})_{0.5}Ti_{1-x}Ta_xO_3$ ceramics has been investigated. The Ta doping resulted in a transition from coexistence of ferroelectric tetragonal and rhombohedral phases to an electrostrictive pseudocubic phase, leading to degradations of the remnant polarization, coercive field, and piezoelectric coefficient $d_{33}$. However, the electricfield-induced strain was significantly enhanced by the Ta substitution-induced phase transition and reached a highest value of $S_{max}/E_{max}$ = 566 pm/V under an applied electric field 6 kV/mm when 2% Ta was substituted on Ti sites. The abnormal enhancement in strain was attributed to the pseudocubic phase with high electrostrictive constants.
