In order to investigate acute toxicity and bioconcentration of heavy metals for a freshwater fish, the fish used in this experiment was goldfish, Carassius auratus. Each ten goldfish was accommonidated in a water and was treated with different concentration of Pb and Cu compound. The 24 $hr-LC_{50}$ was obtained by plotting on the log-normal distribution graph. Furthermore, the combined effect of Pb and Cu was also investigated the fish was treated with Pb or Cu compound only, and Pb and Cu compound together, respectively. These results were summarized as follows: 1. The 24 $hr-LC_{50}'s$ of Pb and Cu were 7.48 mg/l and 0.666 mg/l, respectively. 2. When single or/and combined treatment with Pb(7.0 mg/l) or/and Cu(0.6 mg/l) to Carassius auratus for 24 hours were performed, there was significant difference between the single or/and the combined treatment in their bioaccumulated Cu concentrations. Cu concentrations in goldfish were higher in the combined treatment than in the single treatment. 3. When Carassius auratus was exposed to 0.748 mg/l (1/10 of 24 $hr-LC_{50}$) and 1.496 mg/l of Pb (1/5 of 24 $hr-LC_{50}$) for 7 days, the bioconcentration factors (BCF) were 79.14 and 100.11 for Pb, respectively. The BCF of Pb was obtained as a linearity according to the concentration and exposure time as follows log BCF=1.014 log $P\cdot T$+1.011 ($r^2$=0.9041) where, P: pollutant concentration(mg/l) T: exposure time(day) 4. When Carassius auratus was pxposed to 0.0666 mg/l (1/10 of 24 $hr-LC_{50}$) and 0.1332 mg/l of Cu (1/5 of 24 $hr-LC_{50}$) for 7 days, the bioconcentration factors (BCF) were 55.42 and 63.24 for Cu respectively. The BCF of Cu was obtained as a linearity according to the concentration and exposure time as follows log BCF=0.571 log $P\cdot T$+1.823 ($r^2$=0.8974) where, P: polutant concentration(mg/l) T: exposure time(day)
Dependence of magnetoresistance on base pressure and deposition rates of each Fe, Co, Cu layers in the $Fe(50{\AA}/[Co(17{\AA})/Cu(24{\AA})]_20$ multilayer thin films, prepared by dc magnetron sputtering on Corning glass, were investigated. AFM analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, vibrating sample magnetometer analysis, and magnetoresustance measurement (4-probe method) were performed. The multilayer films deposited under low base pressure increases magnetoresistance ratio by preventing oxidation. Annealing for the samples at a moderate temperature allowed larger textured grain with no loss in the periodicity. Magnetoresistance ratio of the annealed multilayers was increased due to the increase antiferromagnetically coupled fraction of the film after annealing. Optimization of deposition rate was greater than 1 $\AA$/s for Fe, and 2.8 $\AA$/s for Cu. Deposition rate of Co showed a tendency of increasing of magnetoresistance ratio due to the formation of flat magnetic layer in case of high deposition rate of Co.

In this study, the skin permeability was measured by adding skin penetrating peptides, arginine oligomers R4(tetra-D-arginine), R6(hexa-D-arginine) to little skin-permeable wrinkle improvement peptides GHK, GHK-Cu, and Pal-GHK liposomes, and the results were analyzed by the following six cases. (1) In cases where only wrinkle improvement peptides GHK, GHK-Cu, and Pal-GHK were contained liposomes; the final cumulative permeations in 24 hours were 6.05%, 7.4%, and 8.83% respectively. (2) In cases where arginine oligomers R4, R6 were added to GHK liposomes; the final cumulative permeations in 24 hours were 13.63% and 7.68%. (3) In cases where R4, R6 were added to GHK-Cu liposomes; the final cumulative permeations in 24 hours were 15.46% and 8.64%. (4) In cases where R4, R6 were added to Pal-GHK liposomes; the final cumulative permeations in 24 hours were 16.9% and 10.67%. (5) In cases where R4 were added to GHK, GHK-Cu, and Pal-GHK liposomes; the final cumulative permeations in 24 hours were 13.63%, 15.46%, and 16.9% respectively. (6) In cases where R6 were added to GHK, GHK-Cu, and Pal-GHK liposomes; the final cumulative permeations in 24 hours were 7.68%, 8.64%, and 10.67% respectively. This experiment showed that skin absorption of GHK was increased by copper ion (Cu2+) and palmitic acid and skin absorption of wrinkle improvement peptides was enhanced by cell penetrating peptides, and R4 showed higher effect than R6 in GHK, GHK-Cu and Pal-GHK. Through this process, we propose broad use and application in wrinkle improvement functional cosmetics by presenting the optimal conditions for increasing skin absorption of GHK, GHK-Cu, thus maximizing its efficacy.
Octanethiol ($CH_3(CH_2)_7SH$) based self-assembled monolayer on Cu(111) in ultra-high vacuum has been examined using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), temperature programmed desorption (TPD), intergrated desorption mass spectrometry (IDMS), and contact angle analysis. The results show that the octanethiolate monolayers similar to those on gold are formed on Cu(111). The monolayers are stable up to temperatures of about 480 K. Above 495 K the monolayers decompose via the γ-hydrogen elimination mechanism to yield 1-octene in the gas phase. The thiolate head groups on the copper surface change to Cu₂S following the decomposition of hydrocarbon fragments in the monolayers at about 605 K.
To elucidate the effects of a pretreatment process on the uniformity of Ag electroless plating on Cu flakes, pretreatment time was mainly considered with a mixed solution of 0.15 M ammonium hydroxide and 0.0375 M ammonium sulphate. Optical inspection of Ag-coated Cu flakes determined that the optimal pretreatment time is 120 s. Repetition of the sequence in which Ag plating was done immediately after the pretreatment of 120 s clearly enhanced the plating uniformity. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that holes were formed irregularly on some Cu flakes during the period from the asdropping of an Ag precursor solution to 5 min. The hole formation was judged to be due to continuous removal of Cu on the local surfaces by the repetitive formation and elimination of $Cu_2O$ or $Cu(OH)_2$ layers. However, the increase of the amount of Ag coating suppressed the hole creation and increasingly enhanced the antioxidant property.

In order to investigate how the fatigue damage effects on the critical properties of superconductor, a fatigue test at room temperature and an Ic measurement test at 4.2K were carried out in this study, respectively, using a 9 strand Cu-Ni/NbTi/Cu composite cable. Through the fatigue test of a 9 strand Cu-NUNbTi/Cu composite cable, a conventional S-N curve was plotted even though there was a possibility of fretting among strands. It was found that the maximum stress corresponding to the inflection point on the S-N curve obtained was nearly the same value as the yielding strength of cable obtained from the static tensile test. However, the effect of cabling in multi-strands superconducting cable on the fatigue strength was not noticeable. The critical current(Ic) measurement was carried out at 4.2K in a NbTi strand out of the fatigued cable. It showed a degradation of lc at high stress amplitude regions over 380NTa, and the degradation became significant as the applied stress amplitude increased.
Cu-based sulfides have recently emerged as promising thermoelectric (TE) materials due to their low cost, non-toxicity, and abundance. In this research, point defect structure of Cu2-xZnSnS4 (x=0.1, 0.2, 0.3) samples were synthesized by the mechanical alloying method. Mixed powders of Cu, Zn, Sn and S were milled using high energy ball milling at a rotation speed of 300 rpm in Ar atmosphere. The milled Cu2-xZnSnS4 powders were heat-treated at 723 K for 24 h, and subsequently consolidated using spark plasma sintering (SPS) under an applied pressure of 60 MPa for 15 min. The thermal conductivity of the sintered Cu2-xZnSnS4 samples was evaluated. A well-defined Cu2-xZnSnS4 powders were successfully formed after milling for 16 h, with the particle sizes mostly distributed in the range of 60-100 nm. The lattice constants of aand cdecreased with increasing composition value x. The thermal conductivity of sintered x=0.1 sample exhibited the lowest value and attained 0.93 W/m K at 673 K.
This study has examined the metallurgical microstructures and alloy compositions of 3 bronze artifacts, a vessel, a spoon and a chopstick, manufactured in the Koryo Dynasty. The results show that they were made from Cu-Sn alloys whose Sn content ranges from 22 to 24% by weight. It is of significant importance to find that they were all given special thermo-mechanical treatments during their manufacturing. It has been found that the Koryo bronze workers were well aware of the mechanical properties of ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$, ${\gamma}$ and ${\delta}$ phases that appear in the Cu-Sn alloys. Knowing how to promote or suppress the formation of each phase, they were able to find proper alloy compositions and temperatures for the high Sn alloys to be successfully forged. The present study will detail the Koryo bronze technology as estimated from the microstructures of the 3 bronze artifacts. The results of the reproduction experiments with Cu-24%Sn will also be presented to explain how the microstructures develop and to estimate the mechanical properties of each phase.

In this paper, to discover the brightness improvement of ZnS:Cu powder electroluminescence (EL), a new structure is proposed in which phosphor and dielectric are mixed between electrodes. Dielectric and phosphor material are BaTiO$_3$ and ZnS:Cu, respectively. The effect of the mixed layer on EL sample is considered the improvement of source efficiency. Although the number of electrons introduced into the phosphor increases only modestly, the high electric field region of phosphor grains increases comparatively in the characteristics of brightness-voltage. Furthermore, the relaxation occurs through leading and trailing edge pairs, which is relatively efficient in characteristics of decay time. With these results, we found that the brightness of newly proposed ZnS:Cu powder electroluminescence was 167.24 cd/$m^2$ at ac voltage of 100V and frequency of 400Hz.

In this study, the effect of zwitterionic surfactant on Cu electrodeposition was investigated through cyclic voltammetry. With the addition of (dodecyldimethylammonio)propanesulfonate (DDAPS) as a representative zwitterionic surfactant in the electrolyte for Cu electrodeposition, the electrochemical Cu2+ reduction was inhibited on Cu and glassy carbon electrodes. Its inhibition effect was similar to that of cationic surfactant rather than anionic surfactant. Moreover, DDAPS interacted with chloride ion and exhibited the mass transfer-dependent inhibition behavior, which indicates that its inhibition function is associated with the formation of its surface aggregates on anion-covered Cu surface. In addition, adsorbed DDAPS slightly reduced the surface roughness of Cu electrodeposits. These characteristics were similar to those of cationic surfactant, but less obvious. It means the effect of DDAPS on Cu electrodeposition originates from the cationic head group which is shield by anionic head group.
