The effect of Cu content on microstructure and mechanical properties of nano-sized Cu dispersed $Al_2O_3(Al_2O_3/Cu)$ nanocomposites was investigated. The nanocomposites with Cu content of 2.5 to 10 vol% were prepared by reduction and hot-pressing of $Al_2O_3/CuO$ powder mixtures. The nanocomposites with Cu content of 2.5 and 5vol% exhibited the maximum fracture strength of 820MPa and enhanced toughness compared with monolithic $Al_2O_3$. The strengthening was mainly attributed to the refinement of $Al_2O_3$ matrix grains. The toughening mechanism was discussed by the observed microstructural feature based on crack bridging.

All solid state thin film batteries with two types of cell structure, Pt / $LiCoO_2$ / LiPON / Cu and Pt / $LiCoO_2$ / LiPON / $LiCoO_2$ / Cu, are prepared and their electrochemical performances are investigated to evaluate the effect of $LiCoO_2$ interlayer at the interface of LiPON / Cu. The crystallinity of the deposited $LiCoO_2$ thin films is confirmed by XRD and Raman analysis. The crystalline $LiCoO_2$ cathode thin film is obtained and $LiCoO_2$ as the interlayer appears to be amorphous. The surface morphology of Cu current collector after cycling of the batteries is observed by AFM. The presence of a 10 nm-thick layer of $LiCoO_2$ at the interface of LiPON / Cu enhances the interfacial adhesion and reduces the interfacial resistance. As a result, Li plating / stripping at the interface of LiPON / Cu during charge/discharge reaction takes place more uniformly on Cu current collector, while without the interlayer of $LiCoO_2$ at the interface of LiPON / Cu, the Li plating / stripping is localized on current collector. The thin film batteries with the interlayer of $LiCoO_2$ at the interface of LiPON / Cu exhibits enhanced initial coulombic efficiency, reversible capacity and cycling stability. The thickness of the anode current collector Cu also appears to be crucial for electrochemical performances of all solid state thin film batteries.
thermochemical methane reforming consisting of two steps on Cu/Fe/Zr mixed oxide media was carried out using a fixed bed infrared reactor. In the first step, the metal oxide was reduced with methane to produce CO, $H_2$ and the reduced metal oxide in the temperature of 1173 K. In the second step, the reduced metal oxide was re-oxidized with steam to produce $H_2$ and the metal oxide in the temperature of 973 K. The reaction characteristics on the added amounts of Cu in Cu/Fe/Zr mixed oxide media and the cyclic tests were evaluated. With the increase of the added amount of Cu in Cu/Fe/Zr mixed oxide media, the conversion of $CH_4$, the selectivity of $CO_2$ and the $H_2/CO$ molar ratio were increased, while the selectivity of CO was decreased in the first step. On the other hand, the evolved amount of $H_2$ was decreased with increasing the added amount of Cu in the second step. The $Cu_xFe_{3-x}O_4/ZrO_2$ medium added with Cu of x = 0.7 showed good regeneration properties in the 10th cyclic tests indicating that the medium had high durability. In addition, the gasification of the deposited carbon in the water splitting step was promoted with the addition of Cu in the media.
Tridentate Schiff base ligands were prepared by the reactions of salicylaldehyde and 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde with 2-aminophenol and 2-amino-p-cresol. And then Cu(II) complexes of those ligands were synthesized. The structures and properties of ligands and their complexes were studied by elemental analysis, $^1H$-NMR, IR, UV-visible spectra, and thermogravimetric analysis. The mole ratio of Schiff base to the metal of complexes was found to be 1:1. Cu(II) complexes were contemplated to be four-coordinated square planar configuration containing one water molecule. The redox process of ligands and complexes in DMSO solution containing 0.1 M TBAP as a supporting electrolyte was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry with glassy carbon electrode. The redox process of the tridentate Schiff base ligands was totally irreversible. The redox process of Cu(II) complexes was quasi-reversible and diffusion-controlled as one electron by one step process Cu(II)/Cu(I). The reduction potentials of the Cu(II) complexes shifted in the positive direction in the order of [Cu(II)(HNIPC)($H_2O$)]>[Cu(II)(HNIP)($H_2O$)]>[Cu(II)(SIP)($H_2O$)]>[Cu(II)(SIPC)($H_2O$)].

For chip-stack package applications, Cu filling characteristics into trench vias of $75{\sim}10\;{\mu}m$ width and 3 mm length were investigated with variations of electroplating current density and current mode. At $1.25mA/cm^{2}$ of DC mode, Cu filling ratio higher than 95% was obtained for trench vias of $75{\sim}35{\mu}m$ width. When electroplated at DC $2.5mA/cm^{2}$, Cu filling ratios became inferior to those processed at DC $1.25mA/cm^{2}$. Pulse current mode exhibited Cu filling characteristics superior to DC current mode.

CuO has been synthesized using the layered organic-inorganic hybrids, $Cu_2(OH)_3(CH_3COO){\cdot}H_2O$ as precursor. The simple thermal decomposition of $Cu_2(OH)_3(CH_3COO){\cdot}H_2O$ is used without any external organic templates. This method provides large-scale production at a low cost of the single-crystalline CuO particles. The morphology of CuO aggregated particles is strongly dependent on structure of the precursor.
We have investigated the infrared spectra for CO adsorbed on silica supported nickel(Ni-Si$O_2$), silica supported copper(Cu-Si$O_2$), silica supported nickel-copper alloys(Ni/Cu-Si$O_2$) of several compositions with varying CO pressures(0.2 $torr{\sim}$50 torr) at room temperature and on pumping to vacumn at room temperature within the frequency range of 1500 $cm^{-1}{\sim}2500\;cm^{-1}$. Four bands(2059.6 $cm^{-1},\;{\sim}$2036.5 $cm^{-1},\;{\sim}$ 1868.7 $cm^{-1},\;{\sim}$ 1697.1 $cm^{-1}$) were observed for Ni-Si$O_2$, two bands($\sim$2115.5 $cm^{-1},\;{\sim}$1743.0 $cm^{-1}$) were observed for Cu-Si$O_2$ and five bands(${\sim}2123.2\;cm^{-1}$, 2059.6 $cm^{-1},\;{\sim}$2036.4 $cm^{-1},\;{\sim}$1899.5 $cm^{-1},\;{\sim}$1697.1 $cm^{-1}$) were observed for Ni/Cu-Si$O_2$. These absorption bands correspond with those of the previous reports approximately. The bands below 1800 $cm^{-1}$ were only observed with Ni metal or Ni/Cu alloy crystal plane containing step at room temperature and the ${\sim}1697.1\;cm^{-1}$ bands observed with Ni-Si$O_2$ and Ni/Cu-Si$O_2$ may be ascribed to CO molecule adsorbed on the adsorption sites near step. The bands below 2000 $cm^{-1}$ were rarely observed with Cu metal crystal plane at room temperature and the 1743.0 $cm^{-1}$ bands may be ascribed to CO molecule adsorbed on the adsorption sites near step. The band shifts of adsorbed CO with varing Cu contents from 0 to 0.5 mole fraction at the same CO pressure or at the same pumping time to vacumn were below 21 $cm^{-1}$. and comparatively small than those with other ⅠB metal addition. It may means ligand effect of Cu d electron is small.
The present study examines firstly, the inhibition of collagen gelation to explore the possible involvement of $Cu^{++}$-catalyzed peroxidation in rheumatoid arthritis and secondly, the effect of sodium salicylate on this peroxidative reaction to provide a possible explanation for its mechanism of anti-inflammatory action. Incubation of collagen obtained from rat skin with $Cu^{++}$ and $H_2O_2$ resulted in the inhibition of gelation in terms of maximal turbidity and lag phase, but either $Cu^{++}$ or $H_2O_2$ alone essentially gave no effect in the collagen gelation. In the presence of sodium salicylate the inhibited gelation of collagen induced by $Cu^{++}$ and $H_2O_2$ was reversed with the dependency of the concentration of sodium salicylate. Moreover, the rate of $H_2O_2$ decomposition by $Cu^{++}$ was accelerated by sodium salicylate and this decomposition of $H_2O_2$ was found to be saturable in terms of concentration of this drugs. Thus it can be expected that $Cu^{++}$ -catalyzed peroxidation attacks collagen resulting in change of structural or functional integrity of collagen, and sodium salicylate may act on this peroxidative process, possibly through the enhancement of catalatic action of $Cu^{++}$. From these results $Cu^{++}$-catalyzed peroxidation can be in part responsible for degradation of joint tissue in rheumatoid arthritis and sodium salicylate may exert its anti-inflammatory action by this peroxidative reaction.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of copper supplementation on mineral utilizations in rats. Intakes, excretions, and tissue levels of Fe, Zn, Cu, Ca, Mg, Na, K were compared in rats fed diet with 100, 200, 400% of copper requirement(1Cu, 2Cu and 4Cu, respectively) for 6 weeks. The feed intake was significantly higher in 2Cu compared to 1Cu group, however, body weight gain was not significantly different among the three groups. While the serum level of Fe was significantly decreased, that of Cu was significantly elevated by Cu supplementation. The liver and kidney levels of Mg and Na, intakes of all the minerals, urinary excretions of Fe, Cu, Ca and Mg were significantly higher in 2Cu and/or 4Cu compared to 1Cu. The fecal excretions, retentions and absorptions of all the minerals were not affected by Cu supple mentation. In summary, these results suggest that dietary Cu supplementation has no effect on mineral utilizations, but effect on distribution in tissues of rats.
