The research was conducted in order to improve the hydrogen generation efficiency of the electrical plasma technology from tap water by using $TiO_2$ photocatalyst, mixed Cu - $TiO_2$ powder, and mixed Ni - $TiO_2$ powder as the catalysts. Experiments were performed with the pulsed power and nitrogen carrier gas. The result has shown that the hydrogen concentration with the presence of $TiO_2$ powder was created higher than that of without using photocatalyst. The hydrogen concentration with using $TiO_2$ was 3012ppm corresponding to the applied voltage of 16kV, while it without using the $TiO_2$ was 1464ppm at the same condition . The effect of $TiO_2$ powder was strongly detected at the applied voltages of 15kV and 16kV. This phenomena might be resulted from the co-effect of the pulsed power discharge and the activated state of $TiO_2$ photocatalyst. The co-effect of the mixed catalysts such as Cu-$TiO_2$ and Ni-$TiO_2$ (the mixed photocatalyst $TiO_2$ and transition metals) were also investigated. The experimental results showed that, Cu and Ni powder dopants were greatly enhancing the activity of the $TiO_2$ photocatalyst. Under these experimental conditions the extremely high hydrogen concentrations at the optimal point were produced as 4089ppm and 6630ppm, respectively.
In order to obtain the nano size $10wt%Cu-TiO_2$composite powders by mechanical alloying method for useful composite catalysis, the effects of mechanical alloying time on the formationof $10wt%Cu-TiO_2$ composite powders were analyzed. The phase transformation behaviors were experimented as the heat treating temperature increased. Homogeneous 10wt% Cu-rutile type $TiO_2$composite powders were synthesized in 40 hours by mechanical alloying. After 60 hours mechanical alloying 50 nm size $TiO_2$powders were obtained. Both the phase of mechanically alloyed 10 wt% $Cu-TiO_2$ and pure $TiO_2$ powders were not transformed to anatase after annealing at the temperature range between 350 to 500 $^{\circ}C$. The intermetallic compound of $Cu_2Ti_4$O was formed after 10 hours mechanical alloying, however it could be considered that this intemetallic phase dose not prevent the transformation of rutile $TiO_2$ to the anatase phase after heat treatment at the temperature between 350 and $550^{\circ}C$.
This study evaluated the photocatalytic oxidation efficiency of volatile organic compounds by $Cu_2O-TiO_2$ under visible-light irradiation. $Cu_2O-TiO_2$ was synthesized by an ultrasonic-assisted method. The XRD result indicated successful p-n type photocatalysts. However, no diffraction peaks belonging to $TiO_2$ were observed for the $Cu_2O-TiO_2$. The Uv-vis spectra result revealed that the synthesized $Cu_2O-TiO_2$ can be activated under visible-light irradiation. The FE-TEM/EDS result showed the formation of synthesized nanocomposites in the commercial P25 $TiO_2$, the undoped $TiO_2$, and $Cu_2O-TiO_2$ and componential analysis in the undoped $TiO_2$ and $Cu_2O-TiO_2$. The photocatalytic oxidation efficiencies of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and o-xylene with $Cu_2O-TiO_2$ were higher than those of P25 $TiO_2$ and undoped $TiO_2$. These results indicate that the prepared $Cu_2O-TiO_2$ photocatalyst can be applied effectively to control gaseous BTEX.
Damage to the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus(H5N1) continues to increase, but there is a lack of antiviral research. In this study, we analyze antiviral properties on H5N1 by coating Cu/TiO2 photocatalyst on polyethylene films. The specimen was manufactured a photocatalyst master batch and coated both sides of the 3-layer polyethylene fabric at 280℃ from the extrusion coating machine. The results showed a 99.9% decrease in the Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. In particular, H5N1 type highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses, which is capable of human infection, has been found to decrease 99.9% within five minutes of contact with Cu/TiO2 films. Antibacterial effects of films coated with photocatalyst are known, but this study also confirmed the antiviral effects.
Copper oxide (CuO) was synthesized from $CuCl_2$ by solution method. Anatase $TiO_2$ particle was dispersed into the solution before preparing CuO, so that $TiO_2$/CuO heterojunction was created through the nucleation of CuO onto the $TiO_2$ surface. Some amount of CuO was reduced to $Cu_2O$ by treating glucose into the solution, thereby preparing $TiO_2/Cu_xO$ complex. The obtained $TiO_2/Cu_xO$ complex showed advanced phtocatalytic activity under the sun light compared with the P-25 sample. In addition, the the $TiO_2/Cu_xO$ complex showed excellent antipathogenic effect.

$TiO_2/CuS$ nanocomposites were fabricated by precipitation of nanosized CuS via sonochemical method on electrospun $TiO_2$ nanofibers, and their structure, chemical bonding states, optical properties, and photocatalytic activity were investigated. In the $TiO_2/CuS$ nanocomposite, the position of the conduction band for CuS was at a more negative than that of TiO; meanwhile, the position of the valence band for CuS was more positive than those for TiO, indicating a heterojunction structure belonging to type-II band alignment. Photocatalytic activity, measured by decomposition of methylene blue under visible-light irradiation (${\lambda}$ > 400 nm) for the $TiO_2/CuS$ nanocomposite, showed a value of 85.94% at 653 nm, which represented an improvement of 52% compared to that for single $TiO_2$ nanofiber (44.97% at 653 nm). Consequently, the photocatalyst with $TiO_2/CuS$ nanocomposite had excellent photocatalytic activity for methylene blue under visible-light irradiation, which could be explained by the formation of a heterojunction structure and improvement of the surface reaction by increase in surface area.

In photocatalysis, the addition of metal matter to $TiO_2$ can alter the surface properties. As such, the metal can increase the rate of the photodegradation reaction. In this study, a range of modified $TiO_2$ photocatalysts were prepared and tested to improve the activity of photodegradation at a batch-typed photoreactor. To obtain a good sol solution of the $TiO_2$ photocatalyst, several types of dispersion agents and stabilizers were investigated. The photocatalyst solutions were modified with isoproply alcohol as the dispersion agent and sodium silicate as the stabilizer. The effects of various metallic elements on enhancing the photocatalytic activity of $TiO_2$ on the degradation of toluene were examined. Palladium-added $TiO_2$ was found to be the best, whereas copper or tungsten-added also showed good results. In the case of palladium addition, the increase in removal efficiency was 25%. On the other hand, Fe-added $TiO_2$ showed a notable decrease in photocatalytic degradation. Additional doping of copper or tungsten on the $Pd/TiO_2$ had no positive effect on the photodegradation activity.
In recent years, much attention has been paid to "Photocatalytic oxidation" as an alternative technique, where the pollutants are degraded by UV-irradiation in the presence of a semiconductor suspension such as titanium dioxide. $TiO_2$ is the most often used photocatalyst due to its considerable photocatalytic activity, high stability, non-environmental impact and low cost. 1n this research, the photocatalytic degradation of humic acid, acetaldehyde and methylene blue in $UV/TiO_2$ systems has been stydied. The effect of calcination temperature for manufacturing of $TiO_2$ photocatalysts and type of photocatalysts on photodegradation has been investigated. Photocatalysts with various metal ions(Mn, Fe, Cu and Pt) loading are tested to evaluate the effects of metal ions impurities on photodegradation. The photodegradation efficiency with $Pt-TiO_2$ or $Fe-TiO_2$ or $Cu-TiO_2$ is higher than Degussa P-25 powder. However, the photodegradation efficiency with $Mn-TiO_2$ is lower than Degussa P-25 powder. The photocatalytic properties of the nanocrystals were strongly dependent upon the crystallinity, particle size, standard reduction potential of various transition metal and electronegativity of various transition metal. As a result photocatalysts with various metal ion loading evaluated the effect of photodegradation.
Cu-doped $TiO_2$ thin films were prepared by RF magnetron co-sputtering, and their structural, optical and photodegradation. properties were examined as a function of calcination temperature. XRD results showed that the crystallite size of Cu/$TiO_2$ thin films was bigger than that of the pure $TiO_2$ thin films. SEM results revealed that the agglomerated particle size of the Cu/$TiO_2$ films was more uniform and smaller than that of pure $TiO_2$ films. The absorption edge of thin films calcined at $900^{\circ}C$ was red shifted, resulting from the phase transformation from anatase to rutile phase, and the transmittance of the thin film rapidly decreased due to an increase in particle size. The photodegradation properties of the Cu/$TiO_2$ thin films were superior to those of the pure $TiO_2$ thin films.
Photocatalytic green energy H2 production utilizing inexhaustible solar energy has been considered as a potential solution to problems of energy scarcity and environmental contamination. However, the design of a cost-effective photocatalyst using simple synthesis methodology is still a grand challenge. Herein, a low-cost transition metal, Cu-loaded one-dimensional TiO2 nanorods (Cu/TNR) were fabricated using an easy-to-use synthesis methodology for significant H2 production under simulated solar light. X-ray photoelectron spectral studies and electron microscopy measurements provide evidence to support the successful formation of the Cu/TNR catalyst under our experimental conditions. UV-vis DRS studies further demonstrate that introducing Cu on the surface of TNR substantially increases light absorption in the visible range. Notably, the Cu/TNR catalyst with optimum Cu content, achieved a remarkable H2 production with a yield of 39,239 µmol/g after 3 h of solar light illumination, representing 7.4- and 27.7-fold enhancements against TNR and commercial P25, respectively. The notably improved H2 evolution activity of the target Cu/TNR catalyst was primarily attributed to its excellent separation and efficiently hampered recombination of photoexcited electron-hole pairs. The Cu/TNR catalyst is, therefore, a potential candidate for photocatalytic green energy applications.
