This study was undertaken to provide a drinking water quality on the basis of physicochemical properties. In this study, the 25 samples of supply waters of the Taejon area were sampled twice (February and August in 1999). Hydrochemistry of the supply water belongs to the $Ca^{2+}$-${HCO_3}^{-1}$ type, whereas the supply water was characterized by the relatively significant enrichment of ${Ca}^{2+}$, ${Na}^{2+}$, ${K}^{2+}$, ${Cl}^{2+}$ ions and heavy metals compared to the original water from the Daecheong lake. Generally, the supply water has a mean values for $10.7^{\circ}C$ of temperature, 6.86 of pH, -12 mV of Eh, 88 ${\mu}S$/cm of EC and 70.379 mg/l of TDS in February, whereas the waters of the same sites in August are a slightly high temperature ($26.1^{\circ}C$), TDS (78.069 mg/l) and extremely high EC (442 ${\mu}S$/cm) value. These values are similar with physicochemical properties of the original lake water depending on the seasonal differences. Results of speciation calculation indicate that potentially toxic ions might exist mainly in the forms of free metal (${Cu}^{2+}$ or ${Zn}^{2+}$) and a small amount of ${CO_3}^{2-}$and ${OH}^{-}$in the supply water. The water seemed to be in equilibrium with kaolinite field of the normal stability diagrams for the natural water. Based on enrichment parameter of the supply water normalized by original lake water composition, the average value of those parameter can be calculated with nearly 1.00, but the those values for Cu+Zn possible source of decrepit pipe lines are 126.75 in February and 115.63 in August samples. The parameter values varied with sampling sites, however, do not exceed by chemistry of drinking water standard. Solid compounds remained on the membrane filter papers after filtration are adhered to pale yellow or yellowish brown colored dissolved solids and precipitates, which are coated by 0.02 to 0.35 mm thick per 500 ml with colloidal particles of about 1 to 2${\mu}m$ size. The particles are mainly Fe-Cu-Zn compounds and partly detected to Mn and Pb.
To investigate the effects of functional MA films (FMA) masterbatched by zeolite powder treated with 1 N HCl, 0.5 N NaCl solution and anti-fogging agent (NA) compared with control on the freshness extension of 'Fuji' apples during storage at $15^{\circ}C$. Preference, weight loss, total ascorbic acid, sugar content, acidity, change of gas composition in package were measured. After 150 days of storage, the weight loss of control (L) apples was 1%, that of apple in FMA film (NA) was 1.5% after 150 days. Total ascorbic acid content of apples in control (L) after 150 days was 2.09 mg%, those of apple in FMA film (NA) was 2.72 mg%. The titratable acidity of apple in FMA film was higher than that in control, while soluble solids content of apples in FMA film was lower than that in control after 150 days. Ethylene gas adsorbability in control was 192.2 ppm and those in FMA film was 141.4 ppm after 150 days. Overall, apples in FMA film was better than that of control. It was verified that apples packed with LLDPE film (control) lasted about 130days, while those with FMA films lasted about 170 days. Also, FMA films treated with anti-fogging agent few different compare to nontreated film, but commerdity on the display in market was considered higher than that of non-treated anti-fogging agent.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a kind of liver inflammation caused by an accumulation of fat in the liver. Patients with NAFLD have an increased risk to develop liver fibrosis, which leads to cirrhosis. To investigate hepatoprotective effects of Agrimonia eupatoria L (A. eupatoria), oleic acid-induced NAFLD in HepG2 cells was used and A. eupatoria was fractionated with ethanol (EtOH), n-hexane, dichloromethane (CH2Cl2), ethyl acetate (EtOAc), n-butanol (BuOH), and H2O. Cells treated with the EtOAc fraction showed the highest lipid accumulation inhibiting effect. A. eupatoria also suppressed triglyceride accumulation and inhibited expression of lipid marker gene, such as a peroxisome proliferator activated receptor γ (PPAR-γ). Moreover, another marker, mRNA expression level of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor α (PPAR-α) was significantly increased by in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that A. eupatoria is a potent agent for the treatment of NAFLD.
Participates in actin remodeling through Rac and receptor endocytosis via Rab5. Here, we used yeast two-hybrid system with Eps8 as bait to screen a human brain cDNA library. ITSN2 was identified as the novel binding factor of Eps8. The interaction between ITSN2 and Eps8 was demonstrated by the in vivo co-immunoprecipitation and colocalization assays and the in vitro GST pull-down assays. Furthermore, we mapped the interaction domains to the region between amino acids 260-306 of Eps8 and the coiled-coil domain of ITSN2. In addition, protein stability assays and immunofluorescence analysis showed ITSN2 overexpression induced the degradation of Eps8 proteins, which was markedly alleviated with the lysosome inhibitor NH4Cl treatment. Taken together, our results suggested ITSN2 interacts with Eps8 and stimulates the degradation of Eps8 proteins.

Many different kinds of radwastes are discharged from the nuclear power plants, and $^{129}$I is included in these radwastes. Recovery test of $^{129}$I was evaluated for different radwastes(dry active waste, sludge, spent resin and simulated evaporator bottom). Recovery of $^{129}$I for dry active waste by acid leaching with $1.8\%$ NaClO was $74.3\%$$(RSD,\;2.2\%)$ and l291 for spent rein by alkali fusion method with KOH as a flux agent was $87.7\%$$(RSD,\;0.9\%$), respectively. iodide in simulated evaporator bottom containing a high concentration of borate was adsorbed with anion exchange resin at pH 7 phosphate buffer solution. Recovery of $^{129}$I for anion exchange resin was $92.5\%$ and not affected up to 1,200 $\mu$g/mL $H_3BO)3$(as a Boron). Recovery of $^{129}$I for the spent resin from nuclear power plant was $87.2\%$$(RSD,\;1.2\%)$.
A microorganism producing carboxymethylcellulase (CMCase) was isolated from seawater, identified as Bacillus velezensis by analyses of 16S rDNA and partial sequences of the gyrA, and designated as B. velezensis A-68. The optimal conditions for production of CMCase by B. velezensis A-68 were established using response surface methodology (RSM). The optimal concentrations of rice hulls and yeast extract, and initial pH of the medium for cell growth were 60.2 g/l, 7.38 g/l, and 7.18, respectively, whereas those for production of CMCase were 50.0 g/l, 5.00 g/l, and 7.30. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) implied that the most significant factor for cell growth as well as production of CMCase was yeast extract. The optimal concentrations of $K_2HPO_4$, NaCl, $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$, and $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ in the medium for cell growth were 7.50, 1.00, 0.10, and 0.80 g/l, respectively, which were the same as those for production of CMCase. The optimal temperatures for cell growth and production of CMCase were 30 and $35^{\circ}C$, respectively. The maximal production of CMCase under optimized conditions was 83.8 U/ml, which was 3.3 times higher than that before optimization. In this study, rice hulls, agro-byproduct, were developed as a substrate for production of CMCase and time for production of CMCase was reduced to 3 days using a newly isolated marine bacterium.
Biodegradation of fat, oil, and grease (FOGs) plays an Important role in wastewater management and water pollution control. However, many industrial food-processing and food restaurants generate FOG-containing waste waters for which there Is no acceptable technology for their pretreatment. To solve these problems, this study evaluated the feasibility of effective FOG-degrading microorganisms on the biodegradation of olive oil and FOG-containing wastewater. Twenty-two strains capable of degrading FOGs were isolated from five FOG-contaminated sites for the evaluation of their FOG degradation capabilities. Among twenty-two strains tested, the lipase-producing Pseudomonas sp. strain D2D3 was selected for actual FOG wastewater treatment. Its biodegradability was performed at 3$0^{\circ}C$ and pH 8. The extent of FOG removal efficiency was varied for each FOG tested, being the highest for olive oil and animal fat (94.5% and 94.4%), and the lowest for safflower oil (62%). The addition of organic nitrogen sources such as yeast extract, soytone, and peptone enhanced the removal efficiency of FOGs, but the addition of the inorganic nitrogen nutrients such as $NH_4$Cl and $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ did not increase. The $KH_2PO_4$ sources in 0.25% to 0.5% concentrations showed more than 90% degradability. As a result, the main pathway for the oxidation of fatty acids results in the removal of two carbon atoms as acetyl-CoA with each reaction sequence: $\beta$-oxidation. Its lipase activity showed 38.5 U/g DCW using the optimal media after 9 h. Real wastewater and FOGs were used for determining the removal efficiency by using Pseudomonas sp. strain D2D3 bioadditive. The degradation by Pseudomonas sp. strain D2D3 was 41% higher than that of the naturally occurring bacteria. This result indicated that the use of isolated Pseudomonas sp. strain D2D3 in a bioaugmentating grease trap or other processes might possibly be sufficient to acclimate biological processes for degrading FOGs.

In this study, the status and characteristics of fine dust and its impact on neighboring areas were investigated to proactively respond to the government's environmental regulations expected in the future and to minimize the damage by the fine dust generated at construction waste intermediate treatment plants. In addition, since there are no such plants that can affect the surroundings with no houses or other waste treatment sites nearby, an independently located construction waste intermediate treatment plant was selected to compare the characteristics of fine dust with that from the construction waste intermediate treatment sites located in the downtown area. The conclusions of the study are as follows. (1) The measurement results of PM10 at 4 points in the plant showed that the location where the crushing facility was operating had an elevated level of fine dust at 80㎍/m3 on average and a maximum of 124㎍/m3, and the level rose to 110㎍/m3 at points where vehicles frequent. (2) The PM2.5 measurement results inside the plant showed that the average concentration of the reference point was 16㎍/m3 and the maximum value was 20㎍/m3, which was distributed within the management standard. (3) It was found that the average concentration of PM10 in the nearby area ranged from 28 to 38㎍/m3, which was similar to or lower than 36㎍/m3 of the reference point. Therefore, the concentration of the fine dust generated in the plant had a negligible effect on the increase in concentration of fine dust in nearby areas. (4) The heavy metal contents were measured from the filter paper collected from the plant. The PM10 was found to be about 14 to 26ng/m3, and PM 2.5 was 25 to 28ng/m3, which was the average of domestic atmospheric concentrations. (5) The SEM-EDX analysis results showed that the PM10 contained Si and O around 40% similarly for both. The SiO2, a component of silica occupied the most and C was present as CaCO3, which was assumed to be a limestone component. The remaining components included NaO, Al2O3, and CaO as trace oxides. (6) The SEM-EDX analysis results showed that the PM 2.5 contained 5 to 7% of Cl, which is a chlorine ion, and a small amount of K was detected at 2.51% in the sample from the shutdown plant.
The combined impact of Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) fouling and inorganic ($CaSO_4,Ca_3(PO_4)_2$) scaling on the retention of TNT (2, 4, 6-Trinitrotoluene), RDX (Hexahydro-1, 3, 5-trinitro-1, 3, 5-triazine) and HMX (1, 3, 5, 7-Tetranitro-1, 3, 5, 7-tetrazocane) explosive contaminants by nano-filtration membrane were studied, since organic fouling and salt scaling are the major limitations for membrane filtration. Results reported here indicate that DOM fouling layer with a humic acid does not necessarily lead to an immediate loss of permeate flux but can result in a severe impact on the flux loss when both humic acid and inorganic scaltants were presented simultaneously. The $Ca_3(PO_4)_2$ mixed with humic acid showd most sever flux loss (42%) compared to that of only humic acid presence (8%). It could be a result that the scaling formation of the NF membrane was dominated by cake layer formation of DOM and it was along with pore blocking by the formation of crystals inside the porous active matrix of the NF membrane. In addition, these results indicated that the membrane selectivity of the explosives retention trended correlated with respect to increasing explosives size (listed by MW) based on greater steric interactions and followed the order (MW, g $mol^{-1}$; removal, %): HMX (296.15; 83%) ${\gg}$ RDX (222.12; 49%) ≋ TNT (227.13; 32%). Because the scaling and fouling layer could lead to a additional cake-enhanced concentration polarisation effect, the retention of explosives with the presence of humic acid in the feed solution and inorganic scaling formation on top of an organic fouling layer do not differ substantially retention from that of pure DI feed and NaCl solution.
BACKGROUND: The analytical method was established for determination of fungicide chinomethionat in several animal commodities using gas chromatography (GC) coupled with electron capture detector (ECD). METHODS AND RESULTS: In order to verify the applicability, the method was optimized for determining chinomethonat in various livestock products including beef, pork, chicken, milk and egg. Chinomethionat residual was extracted using acetone/dichloromethane(9/1, v/v) with magnesium sulfate and sodium chloride (salting outassociated liquid-liquid extraction). The extract was diluted by direct partitioning into dichloromethane to remove polar co-extractives in the aqueous phase. The extract was finally purified with optimized silica gel 10 g. CONCLUSION: The method limit of quantitation (MLOQ) was 0.02 mg/kg, which was in accordance with the maximum residue level (MRL) of chinomathionate as 0.05 mg/kg in livestock product. Recovery tests were carried out at two levels of concentration (MLOQ, 10 MLOQ) and resulted in good recoveries (84.8~103.0%). Reproducibilities were obtained (Coefficient of variation <5.2%), and the linearity of calibration curves were reasonable (r2>0.995) in the range of 0.01-0.2 ㎍/mL. This established analytical method was fully validated and could be useful for quantification of chinomathionat in animal commodities as official analytical method.
