Effect of Thermal Treatment on AIOx/Co90Fe10 Interface of Magnetic Tunnel Junctions Prepared by Radical Oxidation

  • We confirmed that the improvement in properties of magnetic tunnel junctions prepared by radical oxidation after thermal treatment was mostly resulted from the redistribution of oxygen at the $AIOx/Co_{90}Fe_{10}$ interface. The as-deposited Al oxide barrier was oxygen-deficient but most of it re-oxidized into $Al_2O_3$, the thermodynamically stable stoichiometric phase, through thermal treatment. As a result, the effective barrier height was increased from 1.52 eV to 2.27 eV. On the other hand, the effective barrier width was decreased from 8.2 ${\AA}$ to 7.5 ${\AA}$. X-ray absorption spectra of Fe and Co clearly showed that the oxygen in the CoFe layer diffused back into the Al barrier and thereby enriched the barrier to close to a stoichiometirc $Al_2O_3$ phase. The oxygen bonded with Co and Fe diffused back by 6.8 ${\AA}$ and 4.5 ${\AA}$ after thermal treatment, respectively. Our results confirm that controlling the chemical structures of the interface is important to improve the properties of magnetic tunnel junctions.

Study on the NiAl Coating for Corrosion Resistance of Stainless Steel in Molten Carbonate Salt (용융탄산염에 대한 스테인레스강의 내식성 향상을 위한 NiAl 피복에 관한 연구)

  • '4 NiAl coating process was applied on 316 stainless steel to retard the corrosion of the wet- seal area of separator for the molten carbonate fuel cell. The Nit11 phasc on the stainless steel substrate could be formed by pre-coating with Ni, plated with A1 and ther, heat treated at $800^{\circ}C$ for 3 hr in $H_2/N_2$ gas atmosphere. The corrosion protection behavior of YiAl coating layer was stuilied under immersion condition in molten cxhonate salt($62^{m}/_{o}Li_2CO_3-38^{m}/_{o}/K_{2}CO_{3}$) at $650^{\circ}C$. The NiAl coating layer ticposited on the AiSi 316 stainless steel had high corrosion resistance in molten carbor. dte salt. The corrosion resistance of XiAl (~~jpoared to be associated with the .A1 oxide formed on the surface of coating layer.

  • The effects of Al2O3 and Cr2O3 addition on the mechanical properties and microstructures of Y-TZP ceramics obtained by co-precipitation method of ZrO2+3m/o Y2O3, following pressureless sintering at 150$0^{\circ}C$ for 2h were investigated. The addition of Al2O3 and Cr2O3 improved the Y-TZP sinterability and the Al2O3 addition showed the better effect on Y-TZP sintering than that of the Cr2O3 addition. The density and microstructure had the better effect on the bending strength of specimen more than stressinduced phase transformation (SIPT) of ZrO2 from tetragonal to monoclinic phase. The hardness of the specimens was found to be depend on the relative density and the fracture toughness of Y-TZP was found to rely on the amount of SIPT. The grian size of Cr2O3-doped Y-TZP was observed to be relatively smaller and had a narrower distribution than that of Al2O3-doped Y-TZP. If decomposition reaction of Cr2O3 can be controlled at high temperatures, it is anticipated that the mechanical properties of Y-TZP can be much improved by the Cr2O3 addition.

Magnetic Properties and Hyperfine Interaction of BaSrCo2(Fe1-xAlx)12O22 Hexaferrite

  • Polycrystalline $BaSrCo_2(Fe_{1-x}Al_x)_{12}O_{22}$ (x = 0.00, 0.01, 0.05, and 0.10) samples were synthesized by polymerizable complex method. Based on the Rietveld refinement, crystal structures of the samples were found to be single-phased and determined to be rhombohedral with space group of R-3m. The hysteresis curves of the samples were measured under 15 kOe at various temperatures ranging from 4.2 and 295 K. It shows that they were not saturated with increasing Al ion contents due to the reduction of magnetic anisotropy. $M_{15kOe}$ was decreased with increasing Al ions contents. We expect that non-magnetic Al ions preferentially occupy the up-spin site of $18h_{VI}$, $3b_{VI}$, and $3a_{VI}$. The $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra of the samples were obtained at 295 K, and analyzed with sixsextets for Fe sites corresponding to the Y-type hexaferrite crystallography sites. The <$E_Q$> shows abrupt changes, and the <$H_{hf}$> shows abrupt decreases around x = 0.05 due to the coexistence of magnetic secondary phases.

  • The new green and red phosphors for PDP application activated by T $b^{3+}$ and E $u^{3+}$ were synthesized, and their photoluminance properties were investigated. It was found that the brightness of $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ :T $b^{3+}$ green phosphor under 147nm VUV irradiation was higher than that of commercial Z $n_2$ $SiO_4$:M $n^{2+}$ phosphor. But the emitting intensity of A1$_3$Gd $B_4$ $O^{12}$ :E $u^{3+}$ red phosphor was inferior to the commercial (Y,Gd)B $O_3$:E $u^{3+}$. $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ Phosphor had a strong excitation band at 160nm associated with the host absorption, and also the photoluminance excitation intensity of $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ :T $b^{3+}$ was higher than that of Z $n_2$ $SiO_4$:M $n^{2+}$, but the intensity of $Al_3$Gd $B_4$ $O_{12}$ :E $u^{3+}$ phosphor was smaller than (Y,Gd)B $O_3$:E $u^{3+}$ phosphor In the VUV range. C $e^{3+}$ co-doping in A1$_3$Gd $B_4$ $O^{12}$ :E $u^{3+}$ and substitution of $Al^{3+}$ by G $a^{3+}$ A1$_3$Gd $B_4$ $O^{12}$ :E $u^{3+}$ phosphor were tried, but they did not improved the optical property .d the optical property .ty .

Effect of $Al_2O_3/Fe$ Ratio on Characteristics of Carbon Nanotubes Prepared by Catalytic Chemical Vapor Deposition

  • The effect of compositions of $Al_2O_3$ in the mixed $Fe/Al_2O_3$ catalysts on the synthetic behaviors of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD) process was investigated in wide range of the mixture ratios of support materials. CNTs were synthesized with $Fe/Al_2O_3$ catalysis under the condition of 40 min in synthetic time, and 923 K of synthetic temperature using $C_2H_4$ and $H_2$ as synthetic and carrier gas, respectively. The carbon yield with the content of $Al_2O_3$ showed in a parabolic curve and the maximum carbon yield was 40 wt.% of $Al_2O_3$. As the mixture ratio of $Al_2O_3$ increased, decreasing tendency was observed in the diameter of CNTs. Specific surface areas of CNTs were increased with the increase of the mixture ratio of $Al_2O_3$.

Effect of Er2O3 Content on Nonlinear Properties and Impulse Clamping Characteristics of Pr/Co/Cr/Al Co-doped Zinc Oxide Ceramics

  • The microstructure, nonlinear properties, and impulse clamping characteristics of Pr/Co/Cr/Al co-doped zinc oxide ceramics were investigated with various contents of $Er_2O_3$. Increasing $Er_2O_3$ content increased the density of the sintered pellets from 5.69 to $5.83g/cm^3$, and decreased the average grain size from 10.6 to $6.5{\mu}m$. With increased $Er_2O_3$ content, the breakdown field increased from 2318 to 4205 V/cm, and the nonlinear coefficient increased from 19.4 to 40.2. The clamp characteristics were improved with the increase of the content of $Er_2O_3$. The varistors doped with 2.0 mol% exhibited the best clamp characteristics, in which the clamp voltage ratio was 1.40-1.73 at 1-50 A in an impulse current.

  • Steam reforming of LPG was investigated over spc-Ni/MgAl catalyst in a temperature range of $600{\sim}850^{\circ}C$, feed molar ratio of $H_2O/C=1.0{\sim}3.0$, space velocity of $10,000{\sim}90,000h^{-1}$ and at atmospheric pressure. spc-Ni/MgAl catalyst was prepared by a co-precipitation method, whereas Ni/MgO and $Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalysts were prepared by an incipient wetness method. The characteristics of catalysts were analyzed by N2 Physisorption, CO chemisorption, XRD, TOF-SIMS, SEM and TEM techniques. The Ni/MgO and $Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalysts were deactivated by the formation of carbon. However, the spc-Ni/MgAl catalyst showed higher conversion and $H_2$ selectivity than the other catalysts, even though carbon was formed on the surface of the catalyst during the reaction under the tested reaction conditions.

  • LFG (Land-Fill Gas) includes components of $CH_4$, $CO_2$, $O_2$, $N_2$, and water. The preparation of synthesis gas from LFG as a DME (Dimethyl Ether) feedstock was studied by methane reforming of $CO_2$, $O_2$ and steam over $NiO-MgO-CeO_2/Al_2O_3$ catalyst. Our experiments were performed to investigate the effects of methane conversion and syngas yield on the amount of LFG components over $NiO-MgO-CeO_2/Al_2O_3$ catalyst. Results were obtained through the methan reforming experiments at the temperature of $900^{\circ}C$ and GHSV of 8,800. The results were as following; it has generally shown that syngas yield increase with the increase of oxygen and steam amounts and then decrease. Highly methane conversion of above 98% and syngas yield of approximately 60% were obtained in the feed of gas composition flow-rate of 243ml/min of $CH_4$, 241ml/min of $CO_2$, 195ml/min of $O_2$, 48ml/min of $N_2$, and 450ml/min of steam, respectively, under reactor pressure of 1 bar for 200 hrs of reaction time. Also, it was shown that catalyst deactivation by coke formation was reduced by excessively adding oxygen and steam as an oxidizer of the methane reforming.

Nano-granular Co-Fe-Al-Q Soft Ferromagnetic Thin Films for RF Electromagnetic-noise Filters

  • Co-Fe-Al-O nano-granular thin films with high electrical resistivity, fabricated by radio frequency magnetron sputtering under an $Ar+O_2$ atmosphere, are found to show good soft magnetic properties in the GHz frequency range. The real part value of the relative permeability is 260 at low frequencies and this value is maintained up to the GHz frequency range. A non-integrated type noise filter on a coplanar waveguide transmission line is demonstrated by using the Co-Fe-Al-O nano-granular thin film with the dimensions of $4\;mm(l){\times}4\;mm(w){\times}0.1\;{\mu}m(t)$. The insertion loss is very low being less than 0.3 dB and this low value is maintained up to 2 GHz. At a ferromagnetic resonance frequency of 3.3 GHz, the degree of noise suppression is measured to be 3 dB. This level of noise attenuation is small for real applications, but there is much room for further improvement by increasing the magnetic volume and integrating the magnetic thin film into the CPW transmission line.
