Reactions of Iridium(Ⅰ) Complexes with Acrylonitrile and Polymerization of Acrylonitrile with Iridium(Ⅰ)-Acrylonitrile Complex (이리듐(Ⅰ) 착물과 아크릴로니트릴의 반응 및 이리듐(Ⅰ)-아크릴로니트릴 착물에 의한 아크릴로니트릴의 중합반응)

  • It has been found that both of the iridium (Ⅰ) complexes, Ir$(ClO_4$)(AN)(CO)$(Ph_3P)_2$(AN = $CH_2$CHCN, $Ph_3P = (C_6H_5)_3$P) and [Ir(AN)(CO)$(Ph_3P)_2]ClO_4$, react with $Cl^-$ to give IrCl(AN)(CO)$(Ph_3P)_2$, and [Ir(AN)(CO)$(Ph_3P)_2]ClO_4$ dissociates AN to yield Ir$(ClO_4)(CO)(Ph_3P)_2$ in the absence of excess AN added, and Ir$(ClO_4)(CO)(Ph_3P)_2$ reacts with $Cl^-$ to produce IrCl(CO)$(Ph_3P)_2$. It is suggested that the catalytic polymerization of AN with Ir$(ClO_4)(AN)(CO)(Ph_3P)_2$ proceeds through the formation of [(CO)(Ph_3P)_2$Ir(-CH=CHCN)(H)($CH_2$=CHCN)]Cl$O_4$ followed by the formation of iridium(alkyl)(alkenyl) type complex which undergoes a reductive elimination to produce the polymer of acrylonitrile.

Measurement of Solubilities in the Ternary System NaCl + CaCl2 + H2O and KCl + CaCl2 + H2O at 50℃ (NaCl + CaCl2 + H2O 및 KCl + CaCl2 + H2O 삼성분계에 대한 50℃에서의 용해도 측정)

  • The solubility and the physicochemical property (refractive index) in the NaCl-$CaCl_2$-$H_2O$ and KCl-$CaCl_2$-$H_2O$ systems were determined at $50^{\circ}C$ and the phase diagrams and the diagrams of physicochemical property vs composition were plotted. One invariant point, two univariant curves, and two crystallization zones, corresponding to sodium Chloride (or potassium chloride), dihydrate ($CaCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$) showed up in the phase diagrams of the ternary systems. The mixing parameters ${\theta}_{M,Ca}$ and ${\Psi}_{M,Ca,Cl}$ (M = Na or K) and equilibrium constant $K_{sp}$ were evaluated in NaCl-$CaCl_2-H_2O$ and KCl-$CaCl_2-H_2O$ systems by least-squares optimization procedure, in which the single-salt Pitzer parameters of NaCl, KCl and $CaCl_2$ ${\beta}^{(0)}$, ${\beta}^{(1)}$, ${\beta}^{(2)}$ and $C^{\Phi}$ were directly calculated from the literature. The results obtained were in good agreement with the experimental data.

A Basic Study on Capture and Solidification of Rare Earth Nuclide (Nd) in LiCl-KCl Eutectic Salt Using an Inorganic Composite With Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2-B2O3 System (Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2-B2O3 구조의 무기합성매질을 이용한 LiCl-KCl 공융염 내 희토류 핵종(Nd)의 분리 및 고화에 관한 기초연구)

  • The pyroprocessing of spent nuclear fuel generates LiCl-KCl eutectic waste salt containing radioactive rare earth nuclides. It is necessary to develop a simple process for the treatment of LiCl-KCl eutectic waste in a hot-cell facility. In this study, capture and solidification of a rare earth nuclide (Nd) in LiCl-KCl eutectic salt using an inorganic composite with a $Li_2O-Al_2O_3-SiO_2-B_2O_3$ system was conducted to simplify the existing separation and solidification process of rare earth nuclides in LiCl-KCl eutectic waste salt from the pyroprocessing of spent nuclear fuel. More than 98wt% of Nd in LiCl-KCl eutectic salt was captured when the mass ratio of the composite was 0.67 over $NdCl_3$ in the eutectic salt. The content of $Nd_2O_3$ in the Nd captured-composite reached about 50wt%, and this composite was directly fabricated into a homogeneous and chemical resistant glass waste in a monolithic form. These results will be utilized in designing a process to simplify the existing separation and solidification process.

Effect of CO2 and ClO2 gas Pre-treatment for Maintain Shelf-life of Summer Strawberries (사계성 딸기의 신선도 유지를 위한 CO2와 ClO2가스의 전처리 효과)

  • This study was conducted to maintain the postharvest shelf-life of summer strawberry cultivars 'Goha' and 'Flamengo' through $CO_2$ (90%) and $ClO_2$ gas ($5{\mu}L{\cdot}L^{-1}$) pre-treatment. The respiration rate of 'Goha' and 'Flamengo' treated with $CO_2$ and $CO_2$ + $ClO_2$ was the lowest during storage. The weight loss with $CO_2$ + $ClO_2$ treatment was about 1% lower than the control group and 'Goha' was the lowest during storage. The pre-treatments effect on soluble solids contents was minimized. The firmness with $CO_2$ and $CO_2$ + $ClO_2$ treatments was only about 30% higher than $ClO_2$ and control. The firmness of 'Goha' was about 2.15N and 'Flamengo' was 2.37N, 15 days after storage. Decayed fruit was shown from after 6 days after storage in control. Control group lost quality 10 days after storage due to decayed fruit rate 20% of 'Goha' and 'Flamengo'. $CO_2$ and $CO_2$ + $ClO_2$ treatments showed the lowest decay rate during storage. Especially, 'Goha' showed around 5% decay fruit rate 10 days after storage. As a result, $CO_2$ + $ClO_2$ pre-treatment is recommended to extend the shelf-life of the summer strawberries.

  • This study was performed to determine the optimum conditions for the production of gaseous chlorine dioxide ($ClO_2$) from aqueous $ClO_2$ (HCl+$NaClO_2$). When 1 N HCl was reacted with various concentrations of $NaClO_2$ (50,000-500,000 mg/mL), the highest concentration (695 mg/L) of gaseous $ClO_2$ was obtained from the aqueous $ClO_2$ containing $100,000{\mu}g/mL$ $NaClO_2$. Next, the effects of relative humidity (RH; 43, 85, and 100%) and temperature (4, 12, and $25^{\circ}C$) on the production of gaseous $ClO_2$ were investigated. It was observed that the concentration of gaseous $ClO_2$ was increased as RH was decreased, or the temperature was increased. Finally, it was confirmed that the amount of gaseous $ClO_2$ was highly correlated ($R^2=0.9546-0.9992$) with the volume of aqueous $ClO_2$. The results of this study provide useful information for designing a sanitization program using gaseous $ClO_2$ under various environmental conditions.

Disinfection Effect of Chlorine Dioxide on Pathogenic Bacteria from Marine Fish (이산화염소의 해산어류 병원세균 살균효과)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the disinfection effects of chlorine dioxide ($ClO_2$) on 4 fish pathogenic bacteria (Vibrio anguillarum, Edwardsiella tarda, Streptococcus sp. and Staphylococcus sp.) isolated from infected olive flounders. The bacteria were exposed to different concentrations of ClO$_2$ (0.129, 0.246 and 0.455 ppm) and response times (0.5, 1, 3, 5 and 10 min), and then were incubated for 12 hr. The effective disinfection concentrations of $ClO_2$ against experimental bacteria by $ClO_2$ for 0.5 min were observed with 0.455 ppm for Staphylococcus sp., 0.246 ppm for V. anguillarum and E. tarda, and 0.129 ppm for Streptococcus sp., respectively. The duration of exposure at low concentration of $ClO_2$ increased for the disinfectant ability to experimental bacteria.

In Vitro and In Vivo Inhibitory Effects of Gaseous Chlorine Dioxide Against Diaporthe batatas Isolated from Stored Sweetpotato

  • Chlorine dioxide ($ClO_2$) can be used as an alternative disinfectant for controlling fungal contamination during postharvest storage. In this study, we tested the in vitro and in vivo inhibitory effects of gaseous $ClO_2$ against Diaporthe batatas SP-d1, the causal agent of sweetpotato dry rot. In in vitro tests, spore suspensions of SP-d1 spread on acidified potato dextrose agar were treated with various $ClO_2$ concentrations (1-20 ppm) for 0-60 min. Fungal growth was significantly inhibited at 1 ppm of $ClO_2$ treatment for 30 min, and completely inhibited at 20 ppm. In in vivo tests, spore suspensions were drop-inoculated onto sweetpotato slices, followed by $ClO_2$ treatment with different concentrations and durations. Lesion diameters were not significantly different between the tested $ClO_2$ concentrations; however, lesion diameters significantly decreased upon increasing the exposure time. Similarly, fungal populations decreased at the tested $ClO_2$ concentrations over time. However, the sliced tissue itself hardened after 60-min $ClO_2$ treatments, especially at 20 ppm of $ClO_2$. When sweetpotato roots were dip-inoculated in spore suspensions for 10 min prior to treatment with 20 and 40 ppm of $ClO_2$ for 0-60 min, fungal populations decreased with increasing $ClO_2$ concentrations. Taken together, these results showed that gaseous $ClO_2$ could significantly inhibit D. batatas growth and dry rot development in sweetpotato. Overall, gaseous $ClO_2$ could be used to control this fungal disease during the postharvest storage of sweetpotato.

  • The neutral complexes $MCl_3(phda)(MeCN)]$ and $[MCl_3(PPh_3)_2(MeCN)]$ (M=Mo, V) were prepared by the reaction of $MCl_z$, (M=Mo; z=5, M=V; z=3) with N, P-donating ligands in acetonitrile solution. Addition of AgClO_4$ to these neutral monomeric complexes in acetone solution afforded $MCl_{3-n}L_2(MeCN)(S)_n](ClO_4)_n$ (n=1, 2 : s=solvent). Two types of asymmetrical homo- and hetero-dinuclear complexes have been synthesized. The type of chloride bridged dinuclear complex is $[(MeCN)(phda)ClM({\mu}-Cl)_2M'Cl(PPh_3)_2(MeCN)](ClO_4)_2.$ And the type of pyrazine bridged complex is $[(MeCN)(phda)Cl_2M({\mu}-pyz)M'Cl_2(PPh_3)_2(MeCN)](ClO_4)_2.$ These complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, $^1H,\;^13C$ NMR, IR, Far-IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy.

  • In this study $H_2O$-NaCl mixture was selected as a cold thermal storage material and its phase change temperature($liquid{\Leftrightarrow}solid$) was controlled with the molar concentration of NaCl. Ion dipole interaction mechanism and the fusion and crystallization structure of $H_2O$-NaCl were visualized with the low and high concentration of NaCl in the heating and cooling processes. In this study, the original cause of the appearance of two steps phase change period in heating and cooing processes were found by the visualization of the ion dipole interaction mechanism of $H_2O$-NaCl, and the theoretical equation of the phase change temperature variation in the NaCl high molar concentration was rearranged.

Surface Reactions after the Etching of CeO$_2$ Thin films using Inductively Coupled C1$_2$/CF$_4$/Ar Plasmas (유도결합 C1$_2$/CF$_4$/Ar 플라즈마를 이용한 CeO$_2$ 박막 식각후 표면반응)

  • In this study, $CeO_2$ thin films were etched with an addition of $Cl_2$ gas to $Ar/CF_4$ gas mixing in an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) etcher by the etching parameter such as RF power of 700 W, chamber pressure of 15 mTorr and dc bias voltage of -200 volts. The etch rate of $CeO_2$ films was 250 $\AA$/min with an addition of 10% $Cl_2$ gas to $Ar/CF_4$ gas mixture and the selectivity to SBT film was 0.4 at that condition. The surface reactions of the etched $CeO_2$ thin films were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It was analyzed that Ce peaks were mainly observed in Ce-O bonds formed $CeO_2$ or $Ce_2O_3$ compounds. Cl peaks were detected by the peaks of Cl $2p_{3/2}$ and Cl $2p_{1/2}$. Almost all of Cl atoms were combined with Ce atoms like $CeCl_x$ or $Ce_x/O_yCl_z$ compounds.
