In this study, a facile method to fabricate superhydrophobic surfaces on perfluoroalkoxy (PFA) films using ion implantation was developed. PFA films were implanted at 100 keV with a fluence ranging from $4{\times}10^{16}$ to $7{\times}10^{16}ions\;cm^{-2}$. The surface properties of the implanted films were investigated in terms of their surface morphology, wettability, and chemical composition. As the fluence increased to $6{\times}10^{16}ions\;cm^{-2}$, the surface morphology and surface roughness of the PFA films were dramatically changed. The PFA surface implanted at a fluence of $6{\times}10^{16}ions\;cm^{-2}$ showed a maximum contact angle (CA) of $157.1^{\circ}$, while the control CA of the smooth PFA surface was $103.6^{\circ}$. Thus, the superhydrophobic surface was successfully fabricated by ion implantation.
In transportation the amount of metal ion by crown ethers, dibenzo-18-crown-6 were investigated using ultraviolet spectrometer. Transported the amount of one valence metal ion as $K^+ and Li^+}$ was not so much. On the other hand, two valence metal ion increased by dibenzo-18-crown-6, which means that the ionic charge and hydration of two valence metal ion affected the carrying ability of crown ethers. The carrying ability of dibenzo-18-crown-6 was, therefore, adequate for two valence metal ion as $Ca^{2+}$ and $Ba^{2+}$. It was also suggested that transport metal ion by crown ethers, which is related rather the catching ability than the selectivity of metalion.
Activities of the $F_1-ATPase$ purified from Lentinus edodes were stimulated by $Fe^{3+},\;Fe^{2+},\;Cd^{2+},\;Mg^{2+},\;K^{+}\;and\;Co^{2+}$ but were inhibited by $Zn^{2+},\;Ca^{2+},\;Cu^{2+}\;and\;Ni{2+}$ ion. The enzyme activities were increased 130, 65, 65, 68, 105% and 23% by the 5mM $Fe^{3+}$, 10 mM$Fe^{2+}$, 1mM $Cd^{2+}$, 5mM $Mg^{2+}$, 5mM $K^{+}$ and 5mM$Co^{2+}$ ion addition, respectively, as compared with those not added. The enzyme activities were decreased 18, 19, 27 and 30% by 10 mM $Zn^{2+}$, 10mM $Ca^{2+}$, 0.5 mM $Cu^{2+}$ and 10 mM $Ni^{2+}$ ion, respectively. Anion effects of 10 mM ${Co_3}^{2-}$, 20 mM,$CN^{-}$ 20 mM$CH_3COO^{-}$ and 20 mM ${NO_3}^{-}$ ion were inhibited to the enzyme activities of 98, 95, 70 and 50%, respectively. As increasing of ${SO_4}^{2-}$ ion concentration, the enzyme activity was stimulated and 20 mM ${SO_4}^{2-}$ ion was shown increased of 21%.
Objectives: Antivenom serums have been used extensively for over a century and are the only effective treatment option for snake bites and other dangerous animal envenomations. In therapeutic serum centers, a wide range of antivenoms is made from animal serum, mainly equine and sheep, that are immunized with single or multiple venoms. This work aimed to use caprylic acid (CA) to purify therapeutic snake antivenom. Methods: Plasma was obtained from equine immunized with a mixture of venoms. Immunized plasma was obtained by precipitation of different concentrations (2-5%) of CA. This methodology was compared to that based on ammonium sulfate (AS) precipitation. Sediment plasma proteins were purified by ion-exchange chromatography. Protein assay, SDSPAGE, and agar gel diffusion were performed. Results: The total protein precipitation with AS was higher than precipitation with CA, but the best results were obtained when CA was added to the plasma until a final CA concentration of 5% was reached. Chromatography and electrophoresis indicated a stronger band for the 5% CA, and the gel diffusion assay showed antigen-antibody interaction in the purified serum. Conclusion: The use of CA compared to the routine method for purifying hyperimmune serums is a practical and cost-effective method for preparing and producing therapeutic serums. It constitutes a potentially valuable technology for alleviating the critical shortage of antivenom in Iran.

From March 1990 to August 1991, every each 5mm bulk precipitation samples were collected at one residental area in Taejon City to investigate chemical characteristics of acid rain. Major ion concentrations of rain samples $(pH, SO_4^{2-}, NO_3^-, CL^-, NH_4^+, Na^+, K^+, Ca^{2+}, Mg^{2+})$ were analysed and compared with the concentration of air pollutants (T. S. P, $SO_2, NO_x$) that were measured by Ministry of Environment. The results of statistical analysis are as followings. Rain pH was relatively high on October and January and relatively low on August, November and February. Major anion is sulfate, and it's concentration is 2.36 times higher than nitrate's, and major cations are ammonium, sodium and calcium ion. Monthly variation of sulfate and calcium concentrations are higher than the others. Ion concentration and rain pH were correlated negatively with rainfall amount. Major ions in rain samples were $SO_4^{2-}, NO_3^-, NH_4^+, Ca^{2+}$ and regression equations are proposed by multiple regression of measured data. Also, regression equation between air pollutants(T. S. P, $SO_2$) and $SO_4^{2-}, Na^+, K^+, Ca^{2+}, Mg^{2+} ions in rain samples were made. From this wer can predict rain pH.
Ca is material to used in Chinese cabbage (Brasica rapa L. spp. pekinensis). The variation of inorganic ions and GSLs in Chinese cabbage cultivated to control additional Ca contents in slaked lime. The additional fertilizer of slaked lime differ four grade that 0 g (Ca-0), 0.28 g (Ca-1), 0.56 g (Ca-2), 0.84 g (Ca-3) are week intervals with a total of 8 times after transplanting. Inorganic ions in Chinese cabbage ('Bulam plus') were analyzed to use inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectometry(ICP). The more additional slaked lime input, the more almost macronutrients contents were high except Ca. Ca contents were higher in Ca-0 (153.10) and lower in Ca-3 (130.55 mg/kg dry weight, DW). GSLs were identified based on peak retention time in previous results of our laboratory. Seven GSLs including two aliphatic (gluconapin, glucobrassicanapin), one aromatic (gluconasturtiin), four indolyl (glucobrassicin, neoglucobrassicin, 4-methoxyglucobrassicin, 4-hydroxyglucobrassicin) were detected using HPLC. Progoitrin, 4-methoxyglucobrassicin, and gluconasturtiin contents increased in proportion to the input in additional slaked lime. Total GSLs contents were Ca-0 (11.95), Ca-1 (17.02), Ca-2 (19.63), Ca-3 ($17.11{\mu}mol/g$ dry weight, DW). Total Ca and GSLs contents (Ca-1,2,3; mean 17.92) are higher than non treatment (Ca-0; $11.95{\mu}mol/g$ DW).
The ion-exchange properties of $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ ions have been studied in ${\delta}-Na_2Si_2O_5$ synthesized from water glass. Results show that optimum temperature for synthesis of ${\delta}-Na_2Si_2O_5$ was $725^{\circ}C$. Ion-exchange isotherms for $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ exchange for $Na^+$ in the synthetic ${\delta}-Na_2Si_2O_5$ show that the ion-exchange capacity of magnesium is better than that of calcium, and the ion-exchange of magnesium is less sensitive for temperature than that of calcium. When initial pH of solution is increased between 2 and 6, the ion-exchange capacities of magnesium and calcium decrease a little. However, they are almost constant above pH 6 because of alkali buffer effect of ${\delta}-Na_2Si_2O_5$. In the thermodynamic studies, it was found that Gibbs free energies of reaction of calcium ion-exchange are larger than those of magnesium ion-exchange with inverse order of selectivity. The standard enthalpy and entropy of reaction of calcium ion-exchange are larger than those of magnesium ion-exchange.

As an alternate technique for water softening, high voltage impulse (HVI) is introduced and verified if it can control the $CaCO_3$ scale formation in industrial water treatment. After HVI was applied to the artificial hard water containing $100{\pm}5mg/L$$Ca^{2+}$ for 4 hours, the $Ca^{2+}$ concentration and the electrical conductivity were measured. The concentration of $Ca^{2+}$ was reduced from 94.5 to 86.3 mg/L (8.7% reduction) after 4 hour contact of HVI under 5 kV condition. The $Ca^{2+}$ was decreased from 92 to 77.7 mg/L (15.6% reduction) at 8kV and from 90.1 to 75.4 mg/L (16.3% reduction) at 12 kV condition. Both of the contact time and the applied voltage were important parameters affecting the calcium ion reduction. With these results, it was verified that HVI technique could be potential candidate for control of $CaCO_3$ scale formation.

Recycling nutrient solutions in closed hydroponic production systems is usually accompanied by an imbalance of nutrient solutions when concentration is controlled according to electrical conductivity (EC) levels. This study investigated whether it was possible to automatically control the concentrations of five essential elements nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) using only N, K and Ca ion sensors. N, P, K, Ca, and Mg uptake was measured in the nutrient solution, and relationships between absorbed ions were analyzed through twice-repeated experiments in lettuce. Results confirmed that the pattern of $PO_4$ ion uptake was similar that of N, and the pattern of Mg ion uptake was similar that of Ca. $PO_4$ ion uptake was most highly correlated with N, and Mg was most highly correlated with Ca. Regression coefficients of N and $PO_4$ were significantly different at 1.04 and 0.55, respectively, but were similar between Ca and Mg at 0.35 and 0.40, respectively. Additional experiments were conducted to measure nutrient uptake in pak choi and rose plants, both to confirm the results from the first experiment in lettuce, and to assess possible application to other crops. Coefficients of determination both for N and $PO_4$, and Ca and Mg were considerably high ($R^2=0.86$) in cultured pak choi, and similar results were observed in cultured rose ($R^2=0.87$ and 0.73, respectively). Regression coefficients for cultured pak choi were 0.56 and 0.24, respectively, and for rose were 0.51 and 0.16, respectively. Although the results obtained for N and $PO_4$ were not consistent between the lettuce experiments, N and $PO_4$ have similar regression coefficients for all crops. No common coefficient was found between Ca and Mg.
Air-cooled slag showed grindability approximately twice as good as that of water-cooled slag. While the studied water-cooled slag was composed of glass as constituent mineral, the air-cooled slag was mainly composed of melilite. It is assumed that the sulfur in air-cooled slag is mainly in the form of CaS, which is oxidized into $CaS_2O_3$ when in contact with air. $CaS_2O_3$, then, is released mainly as $S_2O{_3}^{2-}$ion when in contact with water. However, the sulfur in water-cooled slag functioned as a constituent of the glass structure, so the$S_2O{_3}^{2-}$ ion was not released even when in contact with water. When no chemical admixture was added, the blended cement of air-cooled slag showed higher fluidity and retention effect than those of the blended cement of the water-cooled slag. It seems that these discrepancies are caused by the initial hydration inhibition effect of cement by the $S_2O{_3}^{2-}$ ion of air-cooled slag. When a superplasticizer is added, the air-cooled slag used more superplasticizer than did the blast furnace slag for the same flow because the air-cooled slag had higher specific surface area due to the presence of micro-pores. Meanwhile, the blended cement of the air-cooled slag showed a greater fluidity retention effect than that of the blended cement of the water-cooled slag. This may be a combined effect of the increased use of superplasticizer and the presence of released $S_2O{_3}^{2-}$ ion; however, further, more detailed studies will need to be conducted.
