To investigate the causes of distribution of Kummerowia striata (Thunb.) Schindl. mostly restricted on the roadside and reclaimed land, plant growth was analyzed under different of tread-pressures: $P_1$(10 times/day, $16.34Kg/cm^2$), $P_2$(20 times/day, $31.52 Kg/cm^2$), $P_3$(30 times/day, $40.79 kg/cm^2$) and the control $P_c$(0 times/day, $3.73 Kg/cm^2$). The matter production in the $P_1$decreased compared with that in the $P_c$, and those in the $P_2$and $P_3$ continuously decreased so that its length growth gradually decreased and, in particular, the growth of leaves and nodule was suppressed. The number of leaves and roots tended to increase in the $P_2$and $P_3$. The water contents of roots following the increase of tread-pressure increased continuously. Following the increase of tread-pressure, T/R ratio and C/F ratio tended to increase. Kummerowia striata showed the highest growth in the $P_c$ and showed 26% relative growth in the $P_1$compared with that in the $P_c$. This plant showed 8% relative growth in the $P_3$, which is excess to the tread-pressure $21Kg/cm^2$, the limit of growth in the plant. Because this plant grew continuously in the P$_3$, the tread-pressure is regarded as an important factor affecting the roadside distribution of this plant.
This study was carried out to obtain the optimum cultivation conditions of wild ornamental plant resources, Dicentra spectabilis L. The altitude of the habitat was ranged from 630m to 690m in Mt. Gujeol. Most of the habitat faced toward the northeast aspect and the gradient was ranged from 25 to 33 degrees. The light intensity of Dicentra community was 14,000lux on the average, and it was tendency to decrease by foliation of other woody plants. The appearance number of Dicentra per quadrat was 30 individuals on the average, and total appearance species in all quadrat surveyed was 52 taxa. Among them, Quercus mongolica, Lindera obtusiloba, Corylus heterophylla, Cornus controversa, woody plants, Corydalis speciosa, Pseudostellaria heterophylla, Artemisia keiskeana, Dryopteris crassirhizoma, Arisaema amurense var. serratum, Carex siroumensis, and Chloranthus japonicus, herbaceous plants, were showed as dominant species. Soil acidity in the habitat was 5.15 to 5.96, and average content of soil moisture was 32.6%. The contents of average organic matter, $P_2O_5$, K, Ca, and Mg were 1.99%, 14mg/kg, 0.55me/100g, 15.2me/100g, and 3.3me/100g, respectively. Electron conductivity was ranged from 0.50 to 0.76dS/m. Also, the average air temperature of May and June was 14.2$^{\circ}C$ and 19.4$^{\circ}C$, respectively.

The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of difference in urban tree plantings on microclimate amelioration, and to suggest essential information for quantifying urban energy budgets and energy savings. This study was focused on measuring and analyzing air temperature and relative humidity in summer. Daytime air temperatures at places with 8%, 24%, 44%, 79%, and 100% cover of woody plants were, respectively, $0.6^{\circ}C,\;1.3^{\circ}C,\;2.4^{\circ}C,\;3.5^{\circ}C,\;and\;4.8^{\circ}C$ cooler, compared to a place with 0% cover. A 10% increase of woody plant cover was estimated to reduce the temperature by approximately $0.55^{\circ}C$. The temperature reduction effects were relatively greater between places with lower cover of woody plants than between those with higher cover. Woody plant cover and crown volume were the appropriate indicators which quantified the effects of tree plantings on air temperatures, based on the correlation analysis. Regression equations to estimate temperature change ($Y:^{\circ}C$) using woody plant cover ($X_1:%$) or crown volume ($X_2:m^3$) as independent variables are as follows: $$1nY=3.3233-0.0018X_1\;(r^2=0.99,\;p<0.0001)\;Y=27.5297-0.0019X_2\;(r^2=0.96,\;p=0.0007)$$
Crude extracts from 20 species of plants 16 families were evaluated for their antifungal activities against Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, and three plant extracts of them were applied to Ginseng in order to investigate the usefulness for Ginseng anthracnose control. Among the crude extracts from 20 species being tested, it of A. cepa, R. undulatum and C. japonica showed considerably antifungal activity against mycelial growth and conidial germination of C. gloeosporioides.. Ginseng anthranose was controlled at 2% concentration of A. cepa and R. undulatum and 1% C. japonica extract, but control value of three plant extracts was inferior to Mancozeb WP. Phytotoxic symptoms were observed in the leaves of ginseng with exogenous foliage application of 10% concentration of three plant extracts and 2% concentration C. japonica extract but not observed at 1% concentration.

A great variable response was observed when PP-3 and PP-J encumbered with 116 populations of root knot nematode (RKN) at two different temperatures ($25{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ and $30{\pm}2^{\circ}C$) and concentrations ($10^4$ and $10^5$ spores/ml). The PCR reaction amplified intergenic region between cytochrome oxidase subunit II gene (COII) and large subunit of rRNA gene (lrRNA) of the mitochondrial genome of different RKN species. The primer C2F3 and 1108 identified M. incognita with the highest frequency (52.6%) followed by M. javanica (36.8%) and M. arenaria (10.5%). The sizes of PCR products were 1.7 kb for M. incognita and M. javanica populations while populations of M. arenaria produced 1.1 kb fragment. The digestion with Hinf I yielded three different fragment length patterns on 1.5 % agarose gel. From current research it is concluded that intra-Meloidogyne genetic variability exist in RKN populations which have better encumbrance with P. penetrans.
Cotyledonary petioles of Brassica napus cocultivated with Agrobacterium vectors for 72 h were transferred to MS medium with 0.5 mg/L NAA, 2.0 mg/L BA, 30 mg/L kanamycin, 100 mg/L cefotaxime, 30 g/L sucrose, 3 mg/L $\textrm{AgNO}_{3}$ and 2 g/L Gelrite. The cotyledonary petioles with green shoots were selected at a frequency of 17.5% in a selection medium and then rooted. Southern blot analysis confirmed the rolC and NPT IIgenes were incorporated into the regenerated plants. The stable inheritance of rolC gene was confirmed in progeny test of transgenic plants.
This study focused on the usefulness of plant extracts for a city organic farm. Insecticidal activity of 8 plant species, plants crude extracts by ethanol and water, against third instar larvae (susceptible strain) of Plutella xylostella was evaluated in this study. Ethanol(25%) extracts of plant materials had better insecticidal activity than water extracts at the room temperature. Insecticidal activity were investigated by leaf disc spray method. Five plant extracts (Capsicum annuum, Chelidoniun majus, Leonurus sibiricus, Coptis japonica, Mentha piperascens) showed over 50% insecticidal activity to P. xylostella at the concentration of $1500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$. Extract of C. annuum showed the highest insecticidal activity (83.3%) against P. xylostella. Phytotoxicity was not observed on Raphanus sativus and Brassica campestris with spray application. Seed germination and growth of two plants were not affected. Extract of C. japonica revealed 73.3% control efficacy against P. xylostella of R. sativus and showed 70% control efficacy against those of B. campestris, respectively, in plastic house. Insecticidal activity against various insects was observed in C. japonica extract as 87.4% for R. sativus and 74.3% for B. campestris in the field. These results suggested that extracts of C. annuum, C. japonica showed the highest insecticidal activity, and could be used as city farm insecticides for organic farming.

The purpose of this study was to provide basic data used in greenhouse design, and for this purpose, the crop loads of tomato and paprika which have high crop load among crops cultivated in greenhouse were measured. The maximum differences in lowest and mean temperatures between cultivation year and normal years for winter season were -5.6 and $-4.9^{\circ}C$, respectively and those for summer season were 3.0 and $1.5^{\circ}C$, respectively. The calibration of push & pull gauge indicated approximate 0.99 of coefficient of determination, representing very high association. The planting densities of paprika and tomato were 3.43, 3.56 and $2.13plants{\cdot}m^{-2}$, respectively. The yields were 4.1, 4.3 and $16.2kg{\cdot}plant^{-1}$, corresponding to 14.1, 15.2 and $34.5kg{\cdot}m^{-2}$ of yield per unit area. The maximum loads were 1.3, 1.5 and $3.3kg{\cdot}plant^{-1}$, respectively. When the paprika were hanged on cross beam, the total crop load applied to it was estimated to be $15.3{\sim}15.9kg{\cdot}m^{-2}$, and when the weights of gutters supporting the cultivation beds, the total weights were $26.0{\sim}26.9kg{\cdot}m^{-2}$.

It is expected that identification and lists of $C_4$ plants in specific regions are useful not only for the ecological researches that are related to vegetation phenology and succession but also as an index of climate change. In this review, $C_4$ plants growing in South Korea were listed and their life forms were investigated. In addition, we discussed the influences that climatic change and the $C_4$ plants exerted on plant ecosystem. Photosynthetic pathway types ($C_3$ and $C_4$) for the plant species in South Korea were determined by reviewing the scientific literatures published between 1971 and 2010. Of the total 4476 species in 1123 genera and 197 families, 206 species (4.6%) in 84 genera (7.5%) and 21 families (10.7%) were identified as $C_4$ plants (including $C_3$-$C_4$ intermediate plants). Among the identified $C_4$ species, 53 species (25.7%) in 26 genera and 15 families were classified as Dicotyledoneae, while 153 species (74.3%) in 58 genera and 6 families were classified as Monocotyledoneae. The majority of the $C_4$ species belong to four families: Chenopodiaceae (15 species), Amaranthaceae (13 species), Gramineae (102 speceis) and Cyperaceae (45 species). With respect to life form composition of 206 $C_4$ species, Th-$R_5$-$D_4$-t was most dominant: 95 species (46.1%) were included in Th, 123 species (59.7%) in $R_5$, 179 species (86.9%) in $D_4$, and 122 species (59.2%) in t. The projected increase in temperature due to climate change may provide better conditions for the growth of $C_4$ plants. Such a result will have considerable impacts on the interspecific competition between $C_3$ and $C_4$ plants, the distribution of $C_4$ plants, plant phenology, and plant diversity.

Human lactoferrin is an iron-binding glycoprotein with many biological activities, including the protection against microbial and virus infection and stimulation of the immune system. We introduced a human lactoferrin (hLf) cDNA under the control of 35S promoter into sweet potato by particle bombardment. Transgenic plants were regenerated via somatic embryogenesis. Transgenic plants were produced typical tuberous roots in soil. PCR, Southern and northern analyses confirmed that the hLf cDNA was incorporated into the plant genome and was properly expressed in plants. Western blot analysis showed that the 80 kDa full length hLf protein was produced in transgenic tuberous roots. Overall results indicated that sweet potato would be an excellent host to produce human therapeutic proteins.
