Purpose: The interaction of various substances inserted into the human body and radiation can confirm the radiation enhancement effect. A Leksell frame inserted into the human body for gamma knife treatment will cause not only pain and inconvenience to the patient, but also additional exposure to the patient's normal tissues. In this study, we attempt to confirm the additional exposure caused by the interaction of the Leksell frame and thermoplastic mask, and 60Co used for gamma knife treatment. Methods: A 60Co energy of 1.17, 1.33 MeV is applied using Monte Carlo simulation, and fixation screws and thermoplastic mask are fabricated using aluminum and titanium alloy, and Carbon compounds. Results: Results show a dose enhancement of up to 396.27% higher compared with that without a Leksell frame and up to 391.25% in thermoplastic mask. Conclusions: Hence, appropriate treatment methods and materials must be used to reduce additional exposure to normal tissues.
Nitrogen oxides (NOx) in combustion flue gas are currently mitigated by chemical processes such as catalytic reduction, absorption and adsorption. However, development of environmentally sustainable biological processes is necessary in the near future. In this paper, the up-to-dated R&D trend of biological methodologies regarding NOx removal was reviewed, and their advantages and disadvantages were discussed. The principles and applications of bacterial system including nitrification and denitrification and photosynthetic microalgae system were compared. In order to enhance biological treatment rate and performance, the insoluble nitric oxide (NO) should be first absorbed using a proper solubilization agent, and then microbial degradation or fixation is to be followed. The use of microalgal system has a good prospect because it can fix $CO_2$ and NOx simultaneously and requires no additional carbon for energy source.

Light is an environmental signal that regulates photomovement and main energy source of photosynthesis in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 (Syn6803). Syn6803 is a popular model system for study of plant functional genomics. In this report, we adopted 2D gel based proteomics study to investigate proteins related with the light absorption and photo-protection in Syn6803. More than 700 proteins were detected on the SDS-gels stained with silver nitrate. Several proteins showing different expression level under various light conditions were identified with MALDI-TOF Mass spectrometry. As a comparison, we also conducted ICAT-based proteome study using WT and cphl (cyanobacterial phytochrome 1) mutant. A cphl deletion led to changes in the expression of proteins involved in translation, photosynthesis including photosystem and CO2 fixation, and cellular regulation. We are currently involved in TAP-tagging method to study protein-protein interactions in search for the molecular component involved in the light signal transduction of Syn6803 photomovement.
In this study, the $Mg(OH)_2$ slurry was made form ferro-nickel slag and then used for $CO_2$ sequestration. The experiments were in the order as leaching step, precipitation, carbonation experiments. According to the leaching results, the optimal leaching conditions were $H_2SO_4$ concentration of 1 M and the temperature of 333 K. In the $Mg(OH)_2$ manufacturing step, NaOH was added to increase the pH upto 8, the first precipitation was confirmed as $Fe_2O_3$. After removal the first precipitation, the pH was upto 11, the $Mg(OH)_2$ was generated by XRD analysis. The $Mg(OH)_2$ slurry was used for $CO_2$ sequestration. The pseudo-second-order carbonation model was used to apply for $CO_2$ sequestration. The $CO_2$ sequestration rate was increased by the $CO_2$ partial pressure and temperature. However, $CO_2$ sequestration rate was decreased when temperature upto 323 K. After $CO_2$ sequestrated by $Mg(OH)_2$, the $CO_2$ can be sequestrated stable as $MgCO_3$. This study also presented optimal sequestration condition was the pH upto 8.38, the maximum $MgCO_3$ can be generated. This study can be used as the basic material for $CO_2$ sequestration by ferro-nickel slag at pilot scale in the future.
This study is related to the investigation of the direct incorporation of $CO_2$ to polymer using quaternary ammonium salt catalysts. Quaternary ammonium salts showed good catalytic activity of $CO_2$ fixation in the synthesis of poly[(1,3-dioxolane-2-oxo-4-yl)methyl methacrylate] [poly(DOMA)] by the direct incorporation of $CO_2$ to poly(glycidyl methacrylate)[poly(GMA)]. Among the salts tested, the ones with higher alkyl chain length and with more nucleophilic counter anion showed higher catalytic activity. The yield of carbon dioxide addition increased with the reaction temperature. Kinetic study was carried out by measuring the variation of $CO_2$, pressure in a high pressure batch reactor. The reaction rate was first order to the concentration of poly(GMA) and $CO_2$, respectively. The rate constant was $0.69L/mol{\cdot}h$ and Henry's constant of $CO_2$ in DMSO at $80^{\circ}C$ was $6.8{\times}10^{-4}mol/L{\cdot}KPa$.
Poly-${\beta}$-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) and enzymes related PHB metabolism have been measured in nitrogen-fixing symbiosis of chickpea and cowpea plants. Bacteroids from chickpea and cowpea contained PHB to 0.8% and 43% of their dry weight, respectively, whereas the free-living cells CC 1192 and I 16 produced $285{\pm}55mg$ and $157{\pm}18mg$ of PHB g (dry weight)$^{-1}$. To further understand why chickpea bacteroids contained little PHB, the enzyme activities of PHB metabolism (3-ketothiolase, acetoacetyl-CoA reductase, PHB depolymerase, and 3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase), the TCA cycle (malate dehydrogenase, citrate synthase, and isocitrate dehydrogenase), and related reactions (malic enzyme, pyruvate dehydrogenase, and glutamate:2-oxoglutarate transaminase) were compared in extracts from chickpea and cowpea bacteroids and the respective free-living bacteria. Significant differences were observed between chickpea and cowpea bacteroids and between the bacteroid and free-living forms of CC 1192, with respect to the capacity for some of these reactions. It is indicated that a greater potential for oxidizing malate to oxaloacetate in chickpea bacteroids could be a factor that favors the utilization of acetyl-CoA in TCA cycle rather than for PHB synthesis.

We investigated changes in photosynthetic characteristics of P. davidiana in order to understand damage patterns to photosynthetic apparatus under drought stress. Root sprout saplings of P. davildiana were treated with $0\%,\;2\%,\;5\%,\;and\;10\%$ of 300ml polyethylene glycol (PEG) once a weer far one month. After one month, we measured photosynthetic parameters and analyzed the photochemical and $CO_2$ fixation systems. Photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, and respiration rate in the leaves of P. davildiana decreased according to increasing stress strength. In the photochemical system, quantum yield of PSII was reduced by the increment of PEG concentration, The decrease of apparent quantum yield was related to reduction of electron transport. Respiration rate decreased with an increase in PEG concentration, whereas photorespiration rate in the $CO_2$ fixation system increased. In conclusion, photosynthesis of P. davidiana responded sensitively under drought stress, and the sensitivity depended upon the strength of water stress. P. davidiana exhibited an increase of water use efficiency under water stress.
This paper presents a method using finite element analysis and topology optimization to address the issue of overdesign in pressure-explosion proof enclosure doors for semiconductor manufacturing processes. The design conducted in this paper focuses on the pattern design of the enclosure door and its fixation components. The process consists of a solid-filled model, a topology optimization model, and a post-processing model. By applying environmental conditions to each model and comparing the maximum displacement, maximum equivalent stress, and weight values, it was confirmed that a reduction of about 13% in weight is achievable.

In this study, the applicability of replacing DG(Desulfurized Gypsum) from oil refinery with CCCMs(Carbon dioxide Conversion Capture Materials) as an ALC(Auto-claved LIghtweight Concrete) raw material was examined, and basic properties of ALC was measured. The main chemical components of DG and CCCMs were CaO and SO3, and an increase in LOI(Loss of ignition) due to mineral carbonation reaction was verified. The crystalline phases of CCCMs were CaCO3, CaSO4, Ca(OH)2, and CaSO4·2H2O. When DG, a raw material for ALC production, was replaced with CCCMs, foaming height, pore shape, absolute dry gravity, and compressive strength results measured similar for all binders. In addition, the formation of tobermorite which is main crystalline phase of ALC was shown for all specimens in microstructural analysis.

For removing $NO_x$ and $SO_x$ from the flue gases emitted from stationary sources, $V_2O_5-MoO_3/TiO_2$ catalysts were prepared by the conventional impregnation method (aqueous solution) and a sort of surface fixation method(nonaqueous solution) as reported excellent reproducibility catalysts. And these catalysts observed their catalytic activities as well as their surface properties. V-Mo-O oxide, prepared from nonaqueous solution of $VOCl_3$ and $Mo(CO)_6$ and aqeous solution method, was supported as amorphous state by XRD and SEM measurements. The infrared spectra of fresh and used catalysts showed that in used catalysts, V=O bands decreased and new bands of vanadium oxysulfate bands were very sensitive. So the catalysts prepared from nonaqueous solution may bring about the high activity. Results from catalytic activity measurements at 350$^\circ$C, in the presence of $SO_2, NO$ conversion was more increased than in absence of $SO_2$. As the $MoO_3$ was added to $V_2O_5/TiO_2 system, SO_2$ conversion increased. It found that from the results, $V_2O-5-MoO_3/TiO_2$ catalysts prepared from an nonaqueous solution may bring about the high activity for both the reaction of NO and $SO_2$ removal.
