Mineralogy and Geochemistry of Carbonate Precipitaties from CO2-rich Water in the Jungwon Area (중원지역 탄산온천수의 탄산염 침전물에 관한 광물학적 및 지구화학적 연구)

  • 중원지역 지열수의 CO2 가스의 용축과 수반된 탄산염 침전물의 광물학적 특성을 밝히기 위하여 탄산염 침전물에 대해 광물학적 및 지구화학적 분석방법을 적용하여 보았다. 이들은 매년 수 mm의 두께로 저수조내에 침전되며 미세한 층상으로 결정화되어 있고, 검은 갈색의 얇은 층들이 반복적으로 존재하고 있다. 침전물은 비교적 순수한 방해석으로 되어 있으며 1M HCl로 처리하여 잔류물을 XRD 분석한 결과는 카올린 광물 및 일라이트질 광물이 확인되었다. 전자현미분석에 의하면 검은 갈색층은 주로 방해석과 Fe나 Mn 산화광물의 집합체이며 소량의 점토광물도 함께 섞여 있는 것으로 추정된다. Fe의 경우에는 주로 방해석내 Ca자리를 치환하여 존재하며 일부 산화광물로 함께 침전된 것으로 보인다. 반면에 Mn의 경우는 일부는 Fe처럼 방해석결정구조 내에서 Ca를 치환하면서 존재하기도 하지만 주로 산화물의 형태로 존재하는 것으로 보인다. 후방산란전자상(BSEI) 관찰에 의하면 Fe와 Mn 모두 매우 미세한 입자의 산화광물들로 밀집해 있는 부분이 관찰되기도 한다. 중원지역 탄산수로부터 방해석이 침전되는 과정은 CO2 가스가 방출되면서 pH가 증가하면서 방해석 및 Fe, Mn 산화물이 과포화상태가 되어 침전되는 것으로서 해석할 수 있다. 또한 지하 심부를 순환하면서 활발한 물-암석반응의 결과로 Si나 Al 및 기타 이온들의 함량이 상대적으로 높았던 탄산수가 pH가 높아지면서 카올린 광물이나 일라이트질 광물, 석영등의 규산염 광물들이 함께 침전하였을 것이다. 그러나 방해석의 침전과정이 이루어지는 과정 동안에, 온천공으로부터 채수되는 탄산수의 양이 수요에 따라 매우 불규칙해서 탄산수의 수요가 많은 경우 탄산수가 지속적으로 과잉 채수되면 주변 천층지하수가 탄산수에 혼합되어 Fe, Mn 등의 농도를 상대적으로 낮추게 되어 산화물형태로 침전되기가 어려워져서 거의 순수한 방해석만이 침전하게 된다. 결과적으로 거의 순수한 방해석 층에 검붉은 층이 불규칙하게 반복되고 있는 중원지역 탄산염침전물은 침전작용이 일어나는 대부분의 기간 동안 지속적으로 주변 전층지하수의 유입이 일어났음을 지시하고 있다. 또한 Fe, Mn 등의 함량이 높은 탄산수로부터의 침전은 매우 짧은 기간동안 단속적으로 일어났음을 지시한다.

Synthesis of ultrafine calcium carbonate powders from high concentrated calcium hydroxide solution (고농도 수산화칼슘 수용액으로부터 초미립 경질 탄산칼슘 분말의 합성)

  • Ultrafine calcim carbonate powders with the size of $0.05~0.1\;{\mu}m$ and the calcite phase were synthesized by the nozzle spouting method, which could be only obtained when high calcium ion concentration within slurry was maintained at the beginning of the reaction. But, in the regions of low ${Ca(OH)}_2$ concentration (0.5~1.0 wt%) or high ${Ca(OH)}_2$ concentration (<3.0 wt%), synthesized calcium carbonate powder was shown the large particle size with agglomeration. To obtain ultrafine calcium carbonate powder in this region, the methods of slurry circuation and $CO_{2}$ gas supply were changed during reaction. Resultly, it was possible to synthesize ultrafine particles (${\approx}0.05{\mu}\textrm{m}$)in the regions of low ${Ca(OH)}_2$ concentration (${\approx}0.5wt%$) and high ${Ca(OH)}_2$ concentration (${\approx}0.5wt%$), which can not be obtained the fine calcium carbonate powder still now.

화학적 기상 증착법으로 제작된 얇은 이황화 몰리브덴 박막의 전자구조

  • 대표적인 금속 칼코지나이드 2차원 물질인 이황화 몰리브덴($MoS_2$)의 대면적 합성을 위해 화학적 기상 증착 (Chemical Vapor Deposition) 방법을 이용하였다. 몰리브덴을 포함한 $Mo(CO)_6$ 전구체와 황이 포함된 $H_2S$ 가스를 적절한 비율로 반응시켰고, 증착 속도를 조절하여 한 층부터 다섯 층까지의 얇은 $MoS_2$ 박막을 제작할 수 있었다. $MoS_2$ 박막들이 층별로 균일 하게 증착 되었는지 확인하기 위해 라만 분광법을 이용 하였고, x-선 분광법을 통해 몰리브덴과 황의 정확한 정량비를 알 수 있었다. 뿐만 아니라, 우리는 두께 의존성을 갖는 이차원 물질인 $MoS_2$ 각 층마다 나타나는 전자 구조적 특성 분석을 위해 자외선 분광법, 역광전자 분광법, 전자 에너지 손실 분광법을 사용하였다. 그 결과, $MoS_2$ 박막의 두께 별 일함수, 가전자대 최대값, 전도대 최소값, 밴드갭의 변화를 관찰할 수 있었다. 이는 기존 계산 결과와 비교하여 잘 일치함을 알 수 있다.

  • For Analysis and evaluation of ALC carbonation, ALC with various specific gravity was fabricated and silicate and siloxane were used for spraying on ALC surface. Silicon oil of water repellent was added to ALC slurry. ALC carbonation related with specific gravity and carbonation degree was decreased with specific gravity. It was guessed that permeation of $CO_2$ gas reduced depend on compact structure of ALC. ALC which sprayed silicate and siloxane represented more excellent carbonation resistance than Ref. ALC. ALC added silicon oil represented most excellent carbonation resistance.

  • An experiment was conducted in order to investigate gasification characteristics of rice husks in a fixed bed, which was a pre-step to design a continuous gasification system. Two air supply levels for gasification were chosen and their effects on the producer gas amount and producer gas composition were discussed. The main components of the producer gas were CO, $CO_2$, $O_2$, $H_2$ and THC (Total HydroCarbon). As airflow rate decreased, more producer gas was produced. The peak amount of CO, $H_2$ and THC were 28%, 7.5% and 0.68% in volume when constant airflow rate of $3.36\;m^3/s$ was used in the batch operation. About 4.5 kg of ash (9%) and condensed water including tars of 6 kg (11%) were produced from 50 kg rice husks in the gasification. Excluding the byproducts, all rice husks seemed to be transformed into producer gas. This gasification study was conducted prior to developing a continuous gasification system for biomass including agricultural byproducts.

  • The synthesis and crystallization of amorphous calcium carbonate($CaCO_3$.$nH_2 O$) obtained from gas-liquid reaction between aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide and carbon dioxide at 15~$50^{\circ}C$ are investigated by electrical conductometry, XRD and TEM. The results are as follows: The initial reaction products prior to the formation of precipitated calcium carbonate is amorphous calcium carbonate. The electrical conductivity values in the slurry are decreased during the formation of amorphous calcium carbonate which covers particle surface of calcium hydroxide and retard the dissolution of calcium hydroxide into the solution. that amorphous calcium carbonate is unstable in the aqueous solution and crystallizes finally to calcite by the through-solution reaction. While amorphous calcium carbonate crystallizes into chain-like calcite, the conductivity values are recovered rapidly and the apparent viscosity of slurry containing higher concentration of calcium hydroxide increase. At below pH 9.5, chain-like calcite separates into individual particles to form precipitated calcium carbonate. The formation and synthetic temperature range of amorphous calcium carbonate is most suitable a primary decreasing step(a-step) at $15^{\circ}C$ in the electrical conductometry.

Production of Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide Gases in the Combustion Tests (연소 시험에서 발생하는 일산화탄소와 이산화탄소의 발생)

  • This study was performed to test the production of combustion toxic gases by Pinus rigida specimens treated with various types of methylpiperazinomethyl-bis-phosphonic acid $M^{n+}$ ($PIPEABPM^{n+}$) and methylpiperazinomethyl-bis-phosphonic acid (PIPEABP). Three coats of 15 wt% $PIPEABPM^{n+}$ and PIPEABP solutions were applied to plates of Pinus rigida at room temperature. After drying the treated specimens, the production of combustion toxic gases was examined using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1). The specimens treated with $PIPEABPM^{n+}$ showed lower carbon monoxide production ($CO_{2\;peak}$; 0.0136~0.0178% at 532~678 s) than the PIPEABP plates, except for the specimen treated with $PIPEABPFe^{3+}$. In addition, the peak carbon dioxide production ($CO_{2\;peak}$) was lower (0.03648~0.3648% at 373~433 s) than that of the PIPEABP-treated plate. Notably, oxygen production was much higher than 15%, which can be fatal to humans. Therefore, the resulting risk could be eliminated. The results indicate that the combustion toxicities were partially decreased due to treatment of the virgin plate with $PIPEABPM^{n+}$.

  • 고체산화물 연료전지(Solid Oxide Fuel Cell이하 SOFC)는 연료가 갖는 화학에너지를 연소과정 없이, 공기와 H2, CO, CH4와 같은 환원성 가스를 공급받아 $600{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$에서 전기화학적 반응을 통하여 직접 전기를 얻는 방식이다. SOFC는 $700^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온에서 고체산화물이 연료와 공기가 반응하여 전기와 열을 동시에 생산하기 때문에 carnot cycle의 제한을 받지 않아 발전효율이 40% 이상으로 고효율이고, NOx 및 SOx를 배출하지 않아 무공해이며, moving parts가 없어 소음이 나지 않고, 건설과 증설이 지역이나 기후 조건에 제약 없이 용이하고, 다양한 용량이 가능하며, 고가의 백금 촉매를 사용하지 않으며, 수소, 석탄가스, 천연가스 등의 연료를 사용할 수 있는 장점이 있음, 또한 다향한 형태로 제작할 수 있으며 전해질이 고체에서 전해질 손실 및 보충에 문제가 없고 타 연료전지에 비해 개질기가 필요 없어 발전시스템이 간단하고 경량화가 가능하다. 전사법은 paste를 제작하여 전사용지에 Screen printing하여 건조 후 coating하는 방법으로 기존의 여러 coating 방법보다 제작이 용이하고 소재의 크기, 두께조절이 간편하며, 구성층의 표면조도나 굴곡에 대응이 용이한 방법이다. 본 실험에서는 paste 제조, 전사법을 이용하여 Anode, AFL, Electrolyte, CFL, Cathode전사지를 제작하고 이를 세라믹 평관형 지지체에 변수로 두께 조건별 Coating 한 후 $1400^{\circ}C$ 소결을 진행하여 SEM 분석으로 미세구조 관찰, 출력특성 및 Impedance을 확인하였다.

Preparation of Honeycomb Carbon Dioxide Adsorbent Impregnated $K_2CO_3$ and Its Characterization ($K_2CO_3$를 담지시킨 고체 허니컴 이산화탄소 흡수제의 제조 및 이의 특성 평가)

  • To capture and recover carbon dioxide ($CO_2$), we impregnated honeycomb made of ceramic paper with $K_2CO_3$ and its absorption characteristics of $CO_2$ were investigated. The absorption amount of $CO_2$ on the honeycomb absorbent impregnated with $K_2CO_3$ was 13.8 wt% at a constant temperature ($70^{\circ}C$) and relative humidity (66%) condition. Because the absorption amount of $CO_2$ achieved almost the same loading ratio of $K_2CO_3$ (17.6 wt%), the absorption reaction of $CO_2$ by $K_2CO_3$ on the honeycomb absorbent seems to be going smoothly. In addition, $CO_2$ absorption breakthrough characteristics of the honeycomb absorbent were analyzed at the temperature range of $50{\sim}80^{\circ}C$, and the water vapor was fed to an absorption column before the feeding of $CO_2$ or simultaneously with $CO_2$. As a result, the absorption capacity of $CO_2$ was more enhanced using the water vapor supplying before $CO_2$ than that of simultaneous supplying. It was confirmed by temperature programmed desorption analysis that the $KHCO_3$ produced by the absorption reaction of $K_2CO_3$ and $CO_2$ is regenerated by the desorption of $CO_2$ at a temperature of about $128^{\circ}C$.

Simultaneous Analysis of Antimicrobial Three Straight Chain 1,2-alkanediols in Cosmetics by Gas Chromatography (가스크로마토그래피를 이용한 화장품 중 항균작용의 3종의 직쇄상 1,2-알칸디올류의 동시분석)

  • Preservatives such as paraben, phenoxyethanol, and chlorphene are commonly used in cosmetics thanks to cheap price and good antiseptic effect. Recently, consumers' concerns about their possible toxicity and skin irritation forced them to be replaced with straight 1,2-alkanediols. However, as the alkanediols may also irritate skin, limited amount of them should be used in cosmetics. Three 1,2-alkanediols including 1,2-pentanediol, 1,2-hexanediol, and 1,2-octanediol in cosmetics were analyzed simultaneously by gas chromatogrphy with flame ionization detector. As a result of method validation, the specificity was confirmed by the calibration curves of 1,2-pentanediol, 1,2-hexanediol, and 1,2-octanediol showing good linearity correlation coefficient of above 0.999 over the concentration range of $100{\sim}1,200{\mu}g/g$. The limit of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) of 1,2-pentanediol, 1,2-hexanediol, and 1,2-octanediol were 31, 40, and $19{\mu}g/g$ and 98, 108, and $57{\mu}g/g$, respectively. The precision (Repeatability) of the amount in cosmetics showed less than 2.0%. Relative Standard Deviation (% RSD) and the Accuracy (% recovery) of the amount in cosmetics showed 99.3 ~ 103.3, 99.4 ~ 106.7, 97.5 ~ 107.3% respectively. As a result, simultaneous analysis of antimicrobial three 1,2-alkanediols in cosmetics were possible. This method can be utilized in accurate quantitative analysis of 1,2-alkanediols in cosmetics.
