Ginseng and probiotics have anti-obesity effects in mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD). Absorption of ginsenoside and colonization of probiotics occur in the intestine. In this study, a mixture of fermented ginseng and two probiotics, Bifidobacterium longum BORI and Lactobacillus paracasei CH88, was administered to HFD-fed mice for 9 weeks. The mixture significantly suppressed weight gain (p < 0.05, n = 8) and lipid deposition in the liver and adipose tissues as well as increased the mice's food intake. The adipocyte size of the adipose tissue was significantly decreased in the mixture-fed group, especially when 0.5% fermented ginseng and $5{\times}10^8/ml$ of the two probiotics were used (p < 0.05, n = 10). The expression of TNF-${\alpha}$ in adipose tissue was efficiently downregulated in the mixture-fed group (p < 0.05, n = 4). The supplement also improved the mice's fasting blood glucose levels (p < 0.05, n = 8) and total cholesterol feces excretion (p < 0.05, n = 8). The mixture of fermented ginseng and B. longum BORI and L. paracasei CH88 could have an anti-obesity effect and suppress lipid deposit in the liver and adipose tissues.

For a next generation PET that realizes high sensitivity and high resolution, we proposed a design of a depth of interaction detector. A unit of the detector is constructed of four stages rectangular blocks of 2 by 2 Gd$_2$SiO$\sub$5/: Ce (GSO) crystal array optically coupled to position sensitive photomultiplier tube (PS-PMT). The 256ch flat panel PS-PMT is under development by Hamamatsu Photonics K.K., JAPAN. It has large cathode area, 51.7 by 51.7 mm$^2$, and the ratio of the effective area to external size is about 90%. The feature will contribute high packing fraction, accordingly high sensitivity. The 256 anodes are arranged in 16 by 16 at intervals of 3.0 mm. So as to evaluate the detector capability for identifying crystal of interaction, we got positioning image histograms with coupling a 16 by 5 array of GSO crystals, 2.9 by 2.9 by 7.5 mm$^3$, to the PS-PMT by irradiating a gamma ray uniformly from a point source. Flat panel PS-PMT is a new promising device for PET. We need to evaluate it if its performance is sufficiency. The performance was compared to the one with a 16ch PS-PMT.

Hydrogenated amorphous silicon carbide (a-SiC:H) films have been deposited on unheated substrates by low frequency (50Hz) plasma using $SiH_4+CH_4+H_2$ gas mixtures. Deposition rate, refractive index, optical band gap, Vickers hardness and IR spectrum of the deposited a -SiC:H films have been measured for various rations of gas flow rates k(=$CH_4/SiH_4$, 0.5k4) with a constant $H_2$ flow rate (100sccm). As k increases, the deposition rate of the a-SiC:H films increases up to the maximum value of about 220nm/h at k=2.5, and then it decreases. The refractive index of the films was 2.6 for k=2.5, while the optical band gap of the films was 3.3eV for k=2.2. The maximum value of Vickers hardness of the films was 1500Hv at k=1. The infrared transmission measurement shows that the films contain both Si-C and Si-$CH_3$ bonds.
Four chitinase producing bacteria, Arthrobacter nicotinae CH4, Arthrobacter nicotinae CHI3, Arthrobacter sp. CH5 and Micrococcus sp. CH3, were isolated from small crabs and shrimps. We investigated the optimum medium condition for the production of enzyme and high cell mass. The preferable medium composition was as follows: colchitin 0.1 %(w/v), glycerol 0.25%(w/v) and yeast extract 0.05%(w/v) in minimal midium ($K_{2}HPO_{4}$ 0.7 g/l, $KH_{2}PO_{4}$ 0.3 g/l, $MgSO_{4}{\cdot}5H_{2}O$ 0.5 g/l, $FeSO_{4}}{\cdot}7H_{2}O$ 0.01 g/l, $ZnSO_{4}$ 0.001 g/l, $MnCI_2$ 0.001 g/l, pH 7.0). This cell culture medium could be used directly as sample for measuring chitinase activity. Because it hardly conreducing sugar such as glucose (blank value=0), the detected reducing sugar can be considered as a chitinase reaction product. The results can be used for easy preparation method for determination of enzyme activity and analysis of enzyme-substrate reaction in step of screening of chitinase producing bacteria.

A large scale field test of prefabricated vertical drains was performed to anayze the effect of parameters of the very soft clay at a test site. compression index and the coefficient of horizontal consolidation obtained by back-analysis of settlement data were compared with those obtained by means of laboratory tests. Hyperbolic method, Asaoka meoth and curve fitting method were used to compute final settlement of coefficient of consolidation. The relationships of settlement measurement(Sm) versus design settlement(St) and the measurement consolidation ratio(Um) versus design consolidation (Ut) were shown as Sm=(1.0~1.1) St , Um=(1.13~1.17) Ut at 1.0m spacing of drain and Sm=(0.7~0.8)St, Um= (0.92~0.99) Ut at 1.5 m spacing of drain, respectively . The relationships of the field compression index(CcField) and virgin compression index(vcc lab) were shown as Ccfield =(1.0~1.2)vcc lab . But it was nearly within the same range when considering the error factor with the determination method of virgin compression index and the prediction back-analysis of the settlement data was larger than the coefficient of vertical consolidation, and the ratio of consolidation coefficient (Ch/Cv) was Ch =(2.4~2.9) Cv , Ch=(3.4~4.2) Cv at 1.0m and 1.5m spacing of drain, respectively.
The evaluation and comparison have been made for the EMI noise which was included in the signal from the sensors in the acoustic emission testing for the bottom plate of ground tank at full. The EMI signal has been classified into two types. One is the signal with very short AE count, and this signal possibly can be filtered by front end filter setting of the channel count with low level of 4 and high level of $10^8$. The other EMI signal occurred from CH 1, CH 3 and CH 10, and had high and constant duration with high energy and count (maximun duration > $10^5\;{\mu}s$), and has characteristic gradient of accumulation amplitude distribution. This signal should be removed in the AE signal evaluation by filtering, because this may affect to the total gradient.
In this letter, we have introduced copper chloride ($CuCl_2$) as an additive in the $CH_3NH_3PbI_3$ precursor solution to improve the surface morphology and crystallinity of $CH_3NH_3PbI_3$ films in a single solvent system. Our optimized perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with 2.5 mol% $CuCl_2$ additive showed best power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 15.22%. The PCE of the PSCs fabricated by $CuCl_2$ (2.5 mol%) additive engineering was 56% higher than the PSC fabricated with pristine $CH_3NH_3PbI_3$.
Acetone solution of quinoline-8-carbaldehyde reacts with $[Rh(cod)(PPh_3)_2] PF_6$and $[Ir(cod)(PPh_3)_2] PF_6$ to yield $[Rh(NC_9H_6CO)(H)(PPh_3)_2(CH_3COCH_3)] PF_6$ (1) and $[Ir(NC_9H_6CO)(H)(PPh_3)_2(CH_3COCH_3)] PF_6$ (2), respectively. The compound $[Ir(cod)(PPh_3)_2] PF_6$ also reacts with $Ph_2PC_6H_4-o-CHO$ in the acetone / $H_2O$ mixture to give $[Ir(Ph_2PC_6H_4-o-CO)(H)(PPh_3)_2(CH_3COCH_3)] PF_6$ (3). Compounds 1, 2, and 3 were characterized by infrared, $^1H$ NMR, $^{31}P$ NMR spectra and conductivity measurement. The $^1H$ NMR spectra of 1, 2, and 3 support the presence of a terminal hydride that is cis to the phosphine. The IR band of 3 at 2185 $cm^{-1}$, which is assigned to $\nu$(Ir-H), and the hydride cleavage reaction of 3 with $CCl_4$, provide evidence for the Ir-H bond.
A series of new chiral [iminophosphoranyl]ferrocenes, {${\eta}^5-C_5H_4-(PPh_2=N-2,6-R_2-C_6H_3)$}Fe{${\eta}^5-C_5H_3-1-PPh^2-2-CH(Me)NMe_2$} (1: R = Me, $^iPr$), {${\eta}^5{-C_5H_4-(PPh_2=N-2,6-R_2}^1-C_6H_3)$}Fe{${\eta}^5-C_5H_3-1-(PPh_2=N-2,6-R_2-C_6H_3)-2-CH(Me)R_2$} (2: $R^1\;=\;Me,\;^iPr;\;R^2\;=\;NMe_2$, OMe), and $({\eta}^5-C_5H_5)Fe${${\eta}^5-C_5H_4-1-PR_2-2-CH(Me)N=PPh_3$} (3:R = Ph, $C_6H_{11}$) have been prepared from the reaction of [1,1'-diphenylphosphino-2-(N,N-dimethylamino) ethyl]ferrocene with arylazides (1 & 2) and the reaction of phosphine dichlorides ($R_3PCl_{2}$) with [1,1'-diphenylphosphino-2-aminoethyl]ferrocene (3), respectively. They form palladium complexes of the type $[Pd(C_3H_5)(L)]BF_4$ (4-6: L = 1-3), where the ligand (L) adopts an ${\eta}^2-N,N\;(2)\;or\;{\eta}^2$-P,N (3) as expected. In the case of 1, a potential terdentate, an ${\eta}^2$-P,N mode is realized with the exclusion of the –=NAr group from the coordination sphere. Complexes 4-6 were employed as catalysts for allylic alkylation of 1,3-diphenylallyl acetate leading to an almost stoichiometric product yield with modest enantiomeric excess (up to 74% ee). Rh(I)-complexes incorporating 1-3 were also prepared in situ for allylic alkylation of cinnamyl acetate as a probe for both regio- and enantioselectivities of the reaction. The reaction exhibited high regiocontrol in favor of a linear achiral isomer regardless of the ligand employed.
This study was designed to investigate the effects of silk fibroin (Mw 500) powder (SFP) on lipofuscin, acetylcholine (ACh) and its related enzyme activities in brain of rats. Sprague-Dawley (SD) male rats (160$\pm$10 g) were fed basic diet (control group), and experimental diets (SFP-2.5 and SFp-5.0 groups) added 2.5 and 5.0 g/kg BW/day for 6 weeks. In case of liver membranes, lipofuscin (LF) levels resulted in a considerable decreases (11.5% and 13.8%, respectively) in SFP-2.5 and SFP-5.0 groups compared with control group. But in case of brain as the most sensitive organ, LF levels were remarkably inhibited about 18.3% and 21.7% in SFP-2.5 and SFP-5.0 groups compared with control group. Acetylcholine (ACh) levels were considerable decrease (3.0% and 9.2%, respectively) in brain membranes of SFP-2.5 and SFP-5.0 groups compared with control group. choine acetyltranferase (ChAT) activities as a synthesis enzyme of ACh, and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activities as a hydrolysis enzyme resulted in a slight increases (2.4% and 3.0%, 4.6% and 6.3%, respectively), but significance difference between ChAT and AChE activities by SFP administration could be not obtained. Monoamine oxidase-B (MAO-B) activities were significantly inhibited (9.5% and 12.6%, respectively) in brain of SEP-2.5 and SFP-5.0 groups compared with control group. These results suggest that inhibiting effects of LF accumulation and MAO-B activity of silk fibroin(SFP) may play a pivotal role in protecting learning memory impairments by attenuating a various age-related changes for improvement of brain function.
