반응용융 침투법에 의한 $Al_2O_3/AL$복합재료의 제조 및 기계적 특성 평가 (Fabrication and mechanical properties of $Al_2O_3/AL$ composites by reactive melt infiltration)

  • 반응용침법으로 제조된 $Al_2O_3$/Al 복합재료는 900-$1200^{\circ}C$의 온도범위에서 $Al_2O_3$ 분말성형체에 용융Al을 침투시켜 제조하였다. 용융침투는 각 온도에서 잠복기를 거친후 발생하였으며, 복합재료의 성장속도는 시간에 따라 선형적으로 비례하였다. 제조된 복합재료의 주성분은 $Al_2$O$_3$와 Al이었고 소량의 Si이 탐지되었다. 복합재료의 상대밀도는 $Al_2O_3$ 입자크기가 증가함에 따라 증가하였고 용융 침투온도가 높을수록 감소하였다.

  • The main object of this study is to investigate the effect of Al powder as an additive on the sintering of calcined alumina comparing with that of calcined alumina alone. The degree of Al oxidation is calculated by measuring the weight increase during the firing Water absorption bulk density and compressive strength of the $Al_2O_3+Al$ system at each temperature are compared with those of $Al_2O_4$ alone. The $Al_2O_3+Al$ system shows better physical propeties than Al2O3 alone and it seems by the SEM observation that the fine oxidized Al particles(fine $Al_2O_3$ particles submicron unit) fill the interstices of the original $Al_2O_3$ par-ticles and thus result in the well-close-packed arrangement of the particles.

  • Monodispersed $Al_2O_3-TiO_2$ Powder was prepared by metal-alkoxide hydrolsis. A homogeneous nucleation/growth occurred in the solutions containing ethanol, butanol and acetonitrile, and resulted in spherical, submicrometer-sized powder. The titania and the alumina crystals were formed at $800^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$, respectively. These crystala were subsequently reacted each other beyond $1320^{\circ}C$ and formed $Al_2TiO_5$. The relative densities of sintered bodies prepared with as-received powder were examined at the temperature range of 1300-$1500^{\circ}C$ and they were about 79% at $1300^{\circ}C$. The formation of aluminum titanata decreased the relative density at the temperature range of 1300-$1450^{\circ}C$, and at above $1450^{\circ}C$, the relative density started to increase again. It was observed that $\alpha-Al_2O_3$-doped aluminum titanate was more stable than pure aluminum titante at $1200^{\circ}C$.

$Al_2O_3/Cu$ 나노복합분말의 제조 및 소결 특성 (The Fabrication and Sinterability of $Al_2O_3/Cu$ Nanocomposite Powder)

  • Mechanical properties of oxide based materials could be improved by nanocomposite processing. To investigate optimum route for fabrication of nanocomposite enabling mass production, high energy ball milling and Pulse Electric Current Sintering (PECS) were adopted. By high energy ball milling, the $Al_2O_3$-based composite powder with dispersed Cu grains below 20 nm in diameter was successfully synthesized. The PECS method as a new process for powder densification has merits of improved sinterability and short sintering time at lower temperature than conventional sintering process. The relative densities of the $Al_2O_3$-5vol%Cu composites sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ and $1300^{\circ}C$ with holding temperature of $900^{\circ}C$ were 95.4% and 95.7% respectively. Microstructures revealed that the composite consisted of the homogeneous and very fine grains of $Al_2O_3$ and Cu with diameters less than 40 nm and 20 nm respectively The composite exhibited enhanced toughness compared with monolithic $Al_2O_3$. The influence of the Cu content upon fracture toughness was discussed in terms of microstructural characteristics.

가정용 전자렌지를 사용한 천연규석분말과 Al분말 성형체로부터 사이알론상 합성에 관한 연구 (The Sialon Synthesis from Natural Silica and Al Powder Mixture by Using Home-style Microwave Oven)

  • 가정용 전자 렌지를 사용하여, SiO2-Al 분말 성형체로 이루어진 시편을 질화분위기에서 점화시켰다. 연소파대가 전파되면서 미반응물없이 Si와 AIN와 Al2O3를 석출하였으며, 냉각과정을 거치지 않고 곧바로 석출물들이 마이크로파를 흡수하여 고온에서 가열되어서 사이알론상을 합성하였다. 전자렌지안에서 SiO2-Al 분말성형체로부터 사이알론상들의 합성율은 일반적인 로내에서의 합성율보다 높았고, 공정시간이 불과 1시간내외에 이어서 에너지와 제조경비를 절약할 수 있었다.

  • The reaction-sintered alumina and zirconia-alumina ceramics were fabricated from the Al/Al2O3 or Zl/ZrO2(Ca-PSZ) powder mixtures via the attrition milling. And the effects of the milling characteristics of used raw powders on reaction sintering were investigated. After attrition milling and isopressing at 400 MPa the Al/Al2O3 specimen was oxidated at 1200℃ for 8 hours followed by sintering at 1550℃ for 3 hours. Because mixed powders of flake-type Al with coarse alumina was much more effectively comminuted than the globular-type Al with coarse alumina powders, it's sintered body of more than 97% theoretical density was achived, but low contents of Al leads to relatively higher shrinkage of about 8%. And because coarse alumina particles was much more beneficial in cutting and reducing the ductile Al particles, using the coarse alumina powder was much more effective in reaction sintering. Fused Ca-PSZ powder was reaction sintered with Al at 1550℃ for 3 hours and low shrinkage ZrO2-Al2O3 composites were fabricated. But because Al/Ca-PSZ powder mixtures were not effectively milled the reaction sintering and densification was difficult. And the Ca ion in Ca-PSZ grains diffused into alumina grains during sintering so that the unstabilization of Ca-PSZ body was occured which gave the microcracks in the specimens.

  • Al2O3/ZrO2 composites were prepared by precipitation method using Al2(SO4)3.18H2O, ZrOCl2.8H2O and YCl3.6H2O as starting materials and NH4OH as a precipitation agent. Al2O3/ZrO2 composites(series A) were prepared by mixing Al2O3 powder obtained by single precipitation method with ZrO2(+3m/o Y2O3) powder obtained by co-predipitation method. Al2O3/ZrO2 composites (series B) were prepared by co-precipitation method using the three starting materials. In all cases, the composition was controlled as Al2O3-15v/o ZrO2(+3m/o Y2O3). The composites of series A showed higher final relative densities than those of series B and tetagonal ZrO2 in all cases was retained to about 95% at room temperature. ZrO2 particles were coalesced more rapidly in grain boundary of Al2O3 than within Al2O3 grain. ZrO2 particles were located at 3-and 4-grain junction of Al2O3 and limited the grain growth of Al2O3. It was observed that MgO contributed to densification of Al2O3 but limited grain growth of Al2O3 by MgO was not remarkable. In all Al2O3/ZrO2 composites, exaggerated grain growth of Al2O3 was not observed and Al2O3/ZrO2 composites were found to have homogeneous microstructures.

  • The microstructure and electrical conductivity of CNTs dispersed $Al_2O_3$ nanocomposites depending on the powder processing and CNTs content were demonstrated. The composite powders with homogeneous dispersion of CNTs could be synthesized by a catalytic route for direct formation of CNTs on nano-sized Fe dispersed $Al_2O_3$ powders. The sintered nanocomposite using the composite powder with directly synthesized CNTs showed homogeneous microstructure and enhanced elelctrical conductivity. The influence of powder processing on the properties of sintered nanocomposites was discussed by the observed microstructural features.

Characteristics of $12CaO\;7Al_2O_3$ Electride as Electron Emission Layer for PDP

  • In order to enhance discharge efficiency of Plasma Display Panel (PDP), we used an electride as electron emission layer for PDP during PDP discharge process. As the electride used in this study, $12CaO7Al_2O_3$, has low work function, it is expected to yield high electron emission during glow discharge process. $12CaO7Al_2O_3$ powder was synthesized from $CaCO_3$ and $Al(OH)_3$ powder and Ca treated for realization of electride characteristics. The $12CaO7Al_2O_3$ powder was coated on the surface of dielectric layer of PDP and discharge characteristics of electride material were evaluated.

알루미늄 에칭액으로부터 베마이트 분말 합성 (Synthesis of boehmite powder from aluminum etching solution)

  • 알루미늄 에칭 폐액으로부터 boehmite(AlOOH) 분말을 합성하였다. 폐액에서 침전되어 있는 결정상은 gibbsite ($Al(OH)_3$)였으며, 산을 이용하여 pH를 조절한 결과 pH가 7~8 영역에서 boehmite 결정상이 얻어졌다. 침전 분말에 남아 있는 Na 이온을 제거하고자 세척공정을 진행하여 boehmite 분말을 얻었다. 합성한 분말의 평균입경은 약 40 nm이었다. 또한 열처리 온도가 증가함에 따라 boehmite는 ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$${\delta}-Al_2O_3$, ${\Theta}-Al_2O_3$를 거쳐 ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 결정상으로 상전이가 일어났다.
