산화알루미늄의 치환에 따른 붕규산 유리의 분상 미 이온교환성에 관한 연구 (Ion Exchange Capacity and Phase Separation of Alkali Borosilicate Glass by Substituting $Al_2O_3$)

  • The ion-exchange porous glasses were prepared by heat treating and subsequently acid treating the (95-y) $SiO_2$.$yB_2O_3$.$5Na_2O+xAl_2O_3$ glasses with y=55, 45, 35, 25. mole% and x=0, 2, 5, 9 mole% It was then investigated how the cation exchange capacity was affected by the phase separation in these glasses. For that matter such quantities as alkali extraction amount pore volume and specific surface area of the glasses were measured. The phase separation in these glasses was in general suppressed by the addition of $Al_2O_3$ maximally around the composition of 5 mole% $Al_2O_3$ This may be because the micro-phase separation prevailed in the glass of that composition over the macro-phase separation increasing thereby the specific surface area as well as the residual amount Al of after acid-treatment and accordingly the cation exchange capacity. The maximum values of the cation exchange capacity was observed to be about 150meq/100g for the glasses of (40-50) $SiO_2$ (55~45)$yB_2O_3$. $5Na_2O+5Al_2O_3$.

  • Molten magnesium alloys and magnesium products are easily oxidized and burned when they are exposed to high temperature for manufacturing process and by accident. In order to solve these problems, CaO addition in magnesium alloys has been developed. The ignition resistance of CaO added Mg-3Al, Mg-6Al, and Mg-9Al Eco-Mg alloys were investigated in comparison with those of magnesium alloys without CaO. The ignition resistance was examined by three methods : DTA, furnace chip ignition test, and torch ignition test. DTA was carried out for obtaining quantitative ignition temperature data with respect to specimen geometry and test environment; the furnace ignition test for burr and chip ignition temperature data; and the torch test for ignition temperature data for manufactured products. The ignition resistance of magnesium alloys under all conditions greatly increased by CaO addition.

Effects of Al2O3 addition on nanocrystal formation and crystallization kinetics in (1-x)Li2B4O7-xAl2O3 glasses

  • We investigated the effects of Al2O3 addition on (1-x)Li2B4O7-xAl2O3 (LBAO; x = 0, 0.005, 0.01, 0.05, 0.07, and 0.1) glasses. The glasses were synthesized by a conventional melt-quench method. Structural transformations of the LBAO glasses were assessed via X-ray diffraction analysis. Estimations of ΔT, KGS = (Tc-Tg)/(Tm-Tc), activation energy, and the Avrami parameter were performed using differential thermal analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. An interpretation of non-isothermal kinetics of the crystallization process is presented using the modified Ozawa equation. The activation energy E increased from 3.3 to 3.5 eV for the LBAO (x < 0.01) glasses whereas those of the LBAO (x > 0.05) glasses slightly increased from 3.75 to 4.05 eV. The exponent n was estimated to be 3.9 ± 0.1 for the LBAO (x < 0.01) glasses and 3.2 ± 0.02 for the LBAO (x > 0.05) glasses. Microstructural characterization of the glassy and crystalline phases using atomic force microscopy was investigated. The effects of Al2O3 on the LBAO glasses include a decreased nucleation rate in the crystallization process and a significantly reduced crystal size.

  • Dielectric ceramics with nominal composition of $(Ba_{0.93}Sr_{0.07}O)-0.5Sm_2O_3-4.5TiO_2$ was prepared using the conventional mixed oxide process-derived powder. Effect of $SiO_2$, $MnO_2$ and $Al_2O_3$ impurity addition on the microwave properties was examined in some detail. Measured relative permittivity $(\varepsilon_r)$ values were in the range of 53 to 59 and showed little dependence on impurity addition. In contrast, quality factor $(Q{\cdot}f)$ and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency $(\tau_f)$ values were greatly influenced by the type and the amount of impurities. It was found that 0.1~0.2wt% addition of $Al_2O_3$ was most effective for improving the properties, where ${\varepsilon}_r$, $Q{\cdot}f$ and $\tau_f$ values were 57.7, 10000, and +7ppm/$^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Mechanical Behavior of $Al_2O_3$ Dispersed CFRP Hybrid Composites at Room and Cryogenic Temperature

  • Al2O3 particles were dispersed into carbon fiber reinforced epoxy composites to fabricate hybrid epoxy based composites. Interface behavior and mechanical properties of these hybrid composites were studied at room and liquid nitrogen temperature and liquid nitrogen temperature and the results were compared with the those of carbon fiber reinforced composites to investigate their applicability at room and cryogenic temperature. Young's modulus in-perpendicular to fiber direction and interlaminar shear strength at room temperature and the thermal contraction down to cryhogenic temperature were improved significantly by the addition of AL2O3 filler into the epoxy matrix. The effect of Al2O3 particle addition on mechanical properties were discussed.

High Temperature Oxidation of Ti3Al/SiCp Composites in Oxygen

  • In order to improve the oxidation resistance of $Ti_3Al$, Ti-25at.%Al composites containing dispersed particles of 15wt.%SiC were prepared by a tubular mixing-spark plasma sintering method. The sintered composites had $Ti_3Al$, SiC, $Ti_5Si_3$ and TiC. The presence of $Ti_5Si_3$ and TiC indicates that some of SiC particles reacted with Ti to from more stable phases. From oxidation tests at 800, 900 and $1000^{\circ}C$ under 1 atm of pure oxygen, it was found that the oxidation rate of Ti3Al was effectively reduced by the addition of SiC. The scale was primarily composed of an outer $TiO_2$ layer having some $Al_2O_3 $islands, an intermediate relatively thick $Al_2O_3 $ layer, and an inner $TiO_2+Al_2O_3+SiO_2$ mixed layer. Beneath the scale, Kirkendall voids were seen.

  • The sintering behavior of UO$_2$-Gd$_2$O$_3$fuel pellets under H$_2$gas has been investigated using dilatometry and XRD methods. The addition of TiO$_2$or Al(OH)$_3$increased the density and grain size. A density of 95% TD and a grain size larger than 6 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ are achieved by the addition of 0.1 wt% TiO$_2$or Al(OH)$_3$. It was found that the densification of UO$_2$-Gd$_2$O$_3$pellets was suppressed in the temperature range of 1300 to 150$0^{\circ}C$, compared to UO$_2$pellets. The formation of a (U,Gd)O$_2$solid solution is the main reason for the suppression of densification. The role of TiO$_2$in densification and grain growth is discussed on the basis of the densification cuwe and ceramography.

Dependence of Phase Stability of Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystal on Dopants

  • The effect of aliovalent dopants, $ Nb_2O_5$ and MnO, on the phase stability of 12 mol% ceria partially-stabilized zirconia (Ce-TZP) polycrystals was studied. Both dopants (MnO and $ Nb_2O_5$) significantly increased the stability of the tetragonal zirconia phase (Mb temperature lower than liquid nitrogen temperature). The enhancement of the stability of the tetragonal phase in Ce-TZP doped with 1 mol% of Mno(Ce-TZP/MnO) andCe-TZP doped with 1 mol% of $ Nb_2O_5$(Ce-TZP/$ Nb_2O_5$) were explained by the significant reduction of the driving force, -${\Delta}$Gchem, for the tetragonal-to-mono-clinic phase transformation caused by the addition of MnO and $ Nb_2O_5$. The enhanced stability of the tetragonal phase in the Ce-TZP and Al2O3 composite (Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$) is believed to be caused by smaller grain size, moderate reduction in the chemical driving force and increase in the strain energy barrier to the transformation. Mechanical properties of the Ce-TZP and the Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$ with (i) the same grain size and (ii) the same Mb temperature were examined by measuring stress-strain behavior in 3 point bending. The Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$ composite doped with 1.3w% MnO (Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$/MnO), which had the same grain size as the Ce-TZP and De-TZP/$Al_2O_3$ showed more transformation plasticity than either the Ce-TZP or the Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$ composite. The Ce-TZP wihch had the same Mb temperature as that of the Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$/MnO did not show any transformation plasticity.

  • 방전 플라즈마 소결법을 적용하여 $Al_2O_3$-SiC 나노 복합체를 150$0^{\circ}C$ 이하의 온도에서 완전치밀화를 이루었다. 제조된 $Al_2O_3$-SiC 복합체는 이상 결정립 성장 없이 매우 균질한 미세구조를 형성하고 있는데, 첨가된 SiC 입자는 주로 결정립 내 및 결정립계에 존재하면서 $Al_2O_3$기지상에서 결정립 성장을 억제하는데 매우 유호하였음을 확인 할 수 있다. 한편, SiC 입자의 첨가는 크랙 회절 및 브릿징 등에 의해서 유도된 재료 강도 및 인성 강화 기구에 의해서 $Al_2O_3$-SiC 복합체의 기계적 물성을 크게 향상시켰다.

  • $SrAl_2O_4$:$Eu^{2+}, Dy^{3+}$ 축광성 형광체의 합성에 있어서 $B_2O_3$는 일반적으로 고상반응의 촉진을 위한 플럭스로서 첨가된다. 본 연구에서는 플럭스로 첨가되는 $B_2O_3$$SrAl_2O_4$:$Eu^{2+}, Dy^{3+}$ 형광체의 결정구조 및 잔광 특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 합성된 $SrAl_2O_4$:$Eu^{2+}, Dy^{3+}$ 형광체는 520nm에서 최대 피크를 갖는 폭넓은 발광 스펙트럼을 나타내었고, $B_2O_3$ 첨가량의 5wt%일 때 최대값을 나타내었다. $B_2O_3$의 첨가에 의해 $SrAl_2O_4$:$Eu^{2+}, Dy^{3+}$ 결정 내부에는 균일 변형(uniform strain)이 발생하였고 이 결과로 결정격자의 a축과 c축의 길이 및 $\beta$각이 감소하여다. 그리고 $SrAl_2O_4$ 결정내부의 균일 변형은 $Eu^{2+}$이온의 여기과정에서 발생하는 정공(hole)의 포획 사이트인 음이온 결함(negative defect)을 다량 발생시키는 원인이 되고, 결과적으로 $SrAl_2O_4$:$Eu^{2+}, Dy^{3+}$ 결정의 잔광 특성을 향상시키는 것으로 생각되었다.
