It has been investigated the effects of alloying elements and binders on the corrosion behavior of metal hydride electrodes for anode of Ni/MH secondary battery. The $AB_5$-type alloys, $(LM)Ni_{4.49}Co_{0.1}Mn_{0.205}Al_{0.205}$ and $(LM)Ni_{3.6}Co_{0.7}Mn_{0.3}Al_{0.4}$, were used for the experiments. The electrodes were prepared by mixing and cold-pressing of alloy powders with Si sealent or PTFE powders, or cold-pressing the electroless copper coated alloy powders. The amount of copper coating was 20wt%. In order to examine corrosion behavior of the electrodes, the corrosion current and the current density, in 6M KOH aqueous solution after removal of oxygen in the solution, were measured by potentiodynamic and cyclic voltamo methods. The results showed that Co in the alloy increased corrosion resistance of the electrode whereas Ni decreased the stability of the electrode during the charge-discharge cycles. The electrode used Si sealant as a binder showed a lower corrosion current density than the electrode used PTFE and the electrode used Cu-coated alloy powders showed the best corrosion resistance.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the color differences in the In-Ceram according to coping thickness and various abutment core materials ; amalgam, precious alloy, composite resin, non-precious alloy. After the porcelain was built up on the In-Ceram coping at the thicknes of 0.3mm and 0.5mm then it was cemented with glass ionomer cement to the post & core materials. The following results were obtained. 1. There were significant differences in the $L^*$ values $a^*$ and $b^*$ values in the cementation of different cores, to the In-Ceram(P<0.01). $L^*$ values were not significantly different between the composite resin to the In-Ceram and the $a^*\;b^*$ values were not significantly different between the amalgam and the non-precious alloy. 2. All of cementations of In-Ceram to the core materisal had color difference(${\Delta}E^*ab$) compared to the In-Ceram. In the 0.3mm thickness of the In-Ceram copping non-precious alloy indicated the greatest value, while the composite resin core showed the lowest value with a thickness of 0.5mm In-Ceram copping. 3. By controlloing the In-Ceram coping thickness $L^*$ value was significatly different(P<0.01), but not in $a^*$ and $b^*$ values. 4. In an amalgam, precious & non-prcious alloys there was a 1,74 to 3.06 range color difference in the controlled thickness of In-Ceram coping at the thickness of 0.3mm and 0.5mm. The above results suggest that the requirement of the sufficient thickness of In-Ceram coping and the suitable core material in order to get an estheti restoration by In-Ceram and also to intercept the original core color.

The alloys $ZrMn_2Ni_x$ (x=0.0, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 and 1.2) as the alloys of Zr-Mn-Ni three component system were prepared and their hydrogen-storage properties and their electrochemical properties were investigated. The C14 Laves phase formed in all the alloys $ZrMn_2Ni_x$. Among these alloys $ZrMn_2Ni_{0.6}$ was activated relatively easily(after about 11 charge-discharge cycles), and had the largest discharge capacity(max. 45mAh/g). For all the alloys Zr was dissolved most easily into the 6M KOH solution. More Mn and Ni were dissolved from the $ZrMn_2Ni_{0.6}$ alloy than from the other alloys. Due to the active charge and discharge of the $ZrMn_2Ni_{0.6}$ alloys, related to the easier activation and the larger discharge capacity, Zr, Mn and Ni in this alloy were considered to be dissolved more easily into the 6M KOH solution, compared with the other alloys.

The crystal structure of arc melted $ZrV_{x}Mn_{1-x}Ni_{1.0},\;ZrV_{x}Mn_{0.8-x}Ni_{1.2},\;ZrV_{x}Mn_{0.6-x}Ni_{1.4}$ alloys which are known to have AB2 type Laves structure was investigated. They had mixed phases of C14 and C15. The radius ratio ($r_{A}/r_{B}$) of atoms in A site to that of B site was found to be an important parameter in explaining the omposition dependence of the crystal structure The C15 structure showed a linear increase with the ratio in as-cast conditions. However, the annealed alloys revealed a definite ratio at which the stability of both phases are divided distinctly. The composition of the alloys could be closely controlled by maintaining the argon pressure in the chamber over 1 arm during arc melting. In contrast, the alloy ingot melted in VIM showed a significant loss of hln.

In order to improve the hydrogen storage capacity and the activation properties of the hydrogen storage alloys, the rare-earth metal alloy series, MmN $i_{4.5}$M $n_{0.5}$Z $r_{x}$(x=0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.1), are prepared by adding excess Zr in MmN $i_{4.5}$M $n_{0.5}$ alloy. The various parts in hydrogen storage vessel consisted of copper pipes reached the setting temperature within 4~5 minutes after heat addition, which indicated that storage vessel had a good heat conductivity required in application. The performance test on storage vessel filled with rare-earth metal alloys of 1000 gr was also conducted after hydrogen charging for 10 min at $18^{\circ}C$ under 10 atm. It showed that the average capacity of discharged hydrogen volume was found to be for $MmNi_{4.5}$$Mn_{0.5}$ and $MmNi_{4.5}$$Mn_{x}$ 0.5/$Zr_{samples}$ indicated that the released amount of hydrogen for this $AB_{5}$ type alloys was more than 92 % of theoretic value, and also it was found that the optimum discharging temperature for obtaining an appropriate pressure of 3 atm was determined to be $V^{\circ}C$ for $MmNi_{4.5}$$Mn_{0.5}$$Zr_{x}$(x=0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.1) hydrogen storage alloys. The released amount of these hydrogen storage samples was 125 $\ell$ , 122.4 $\ell$ and 108.15 $\ell$/kg for $MmNi_{4.5}$$Mn_{0.5}$$Zr_{0.025}$$MmNi_{4.5}$M $n_{0.5}$Z $r_{0.05}$, and MmN $i_{4.5}$ Mn_0.5$Zr_{0}$, at $70^{\circ}C$ respectively. Amount of the 2nd phases increase with increase on Zr contents in $MmNi_{4.5}$$Mn_{0.5}$$Zr_{ 0.1}$/ alloy. This phenomenon indicates that$ ZrNi_3$ in $MmNi_{4.5}$$Mn_{0.5}$$Zr_{x}$ / phase, which shows the maximum storage capacity and the strong resistance to intrinsic degradation, is considered as a proper alloy for hydrogen storage. As the Zr contents increase, the activation time and the plateau pressure decreases and sloping of the plateau pressure increases.creases.eases.s.
The Al-Cr-Zr composite metal powders were prepared by mechanical alloying and consolidated by vacuum hot pressing. The microstructural characteristics and the thermal stability of the MA Al-Cr-Zr alloys were evaluated by means of microhardness measurement, XRD and TEM in order to develop high temperature, high strength aluminum alloys. The mechanical alloying was conducted in attritor with 300rpm for 20 hours. The density of the vacuum hot pressed Al-Cr-Zr alloy reached at 97% of theoretical one. After exposing at $300^{\circ}C$ for 100 hours, there is almost no variation in hardness change of the MA alloys. Even after exposing at $ 500^{\circ}C$ for 100 hours, the hardness of the alloy was decreased within 6% of the initial value. The fine stable $Al_3Zr\;and\; Al_{13}Cr_2$ intermetallics were formed at the stage of consolidation and heat treatment in aluminum matrix. The good thermal stability of the MA Al-Cr-Zr alloy can ab attributed to the role of the dispersoids, inhibiting grain growth of nanocrystalline, and the final grain size after heat treatment was less than 150nm.

Effect of alloying element additions to Ag on thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity of sheath materials for Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O(BSCCO) tapes has been characterized. The thermal conductivity at low temperature range (10~300K) of Ag and Ag alloys were evaluated by both direct and indirect measurement techniqueas and compared with each other, It was observed that the thermal conductivity decreases with increasing the content of alloying element such as Au, Pd and Mg. Thermal conductivity of pure Ag at 3 0K was measured to be 994.0 W(m.K) on the other hand, the corresponding values of $Ag_{0.9995}Mg_{0.0005}$, $Ag_{0.974}$, $Au_{0.025}$, $Mg_{0.001}$, $Ab_{0.973}$, $Au_{0.025}$, $Mg_{0.002}$ and $Ag_{0.92}$, $Pb_{0.06}$, $Mg_{0.02}$ were 342.6, 62.1, 59.2 and 28.9 W(m.K), respectively, indicating 3 to 30 times lower than that of pure Ag. In addition, the thermal conductivity of pure Ag measured by direct and indirect measurement techniques was 303.2 and 363.8 W(m.K) The difference in this study is considered to be within an acceptable error range compared to the reference data.

An experimental study on effect of vapor-cooled heat stations in a 5.5 liter cryogenic vessel has been performed. The cryogenic vessel is made of stainless steel of thickness of 1mm and insulated by the combined insulation of vacuum, MLI(multi-layer insulation) and vapor-cooled radiation shield. Vapor-cooled heat stations are also constructed based on the 1-dimensional thermal analysis to reduce the heat inleak through a filling tube. Thermal analysis indicates that the vapor-cooled heat stations can substantially enhance the performance of vessel for cryogenic fluids with high $C_p/h_{fg}$ where $C_p$ the specific heat and $h_{fg}$ the heat of vaporization, such as $LH_2$ and LHe. The experimental results for $LN_2$ shows that the total heat inleak into inner vessel consists of 14% radiation and 86% conduction through the filling tube. Therefore, it is expected that the conduction heat in leak of the vessel for high $C_p/h_{fg}$ cryogenic fluids can be significantly reduced. powders.
