Crystalline Phases and Superconductor Characteristics of the Plasma Sprayed YBa2Cu$\chi$O7-y High Tc Superconductor Thick Film (플라즈마 용사법에 의해 제조된 YBa2Cu$\chi$O7-y(X=3, 3.5, 4) 고온초전도체 후막층의 결정상 및 초전도 특성)

  • High-Tc superconductor thick films of YBa2Cu$\chi$O7-y (X=3, 3.5, 4) of which thickness varies from 100 $\mu\textrm{m}$ to 200 $\mu\textrm{m}$ were successfully prepared by plasma spraying method, and the characteristics of thick film depending on copper content and heat treatment conditions were investigated. Regardless of heat-treated temperature, the specimens with X=3 were composed of YBa2Cu$\chi$O7-y, Y2BaCuO5 and BaCuO3 phases. The specimens with X=4, however, were composed of YBa2Cu$\chi$O7-y phase at all heat treatment conditions. The specimens with X=4 composition showed the best superconducting characteristics after heat treatment at 925$^{\circ}C$, and the superconducting transition temperature with zero resistivity (Tc,zero) was 87K. The thick film lost superconductivity when the specimens were heat-treated at 950$^{\circ}C$ because of interdiffusion between superconductor elements and bond coating elements and Y2BaCuO5 phase was found was found to be main phase at the interface.

  • YBa2Cu3Ox ceramics superconductors fabricated using solid state reaction usually contain second phases, such as BaCuO2 and CuO. These second phases are located long the grain boundaries and enhance the abnormal growth of YBa2Cu3Ox grains and, consequently, generate the microcracks. These second phaases were reduced by adding Y2BaCuO5 into solid state reacted YBa2Cu3Ox ceramics. Y2BaCuO5 reacts with grain boundary second phases and reduces the grian size of the ceramics. It was observed the critical current density was improved by adding Y2BaCuO5 into solid state reacted YBa2Cu3Ox ceramic superconductor.

  • The improvement of preparation process of ${YBa_2}{Cu_3}{O_x}$ superconductor and its conducting properties is important for practical applications. In this study, the additives such as $Ag_{2}O$ and PbO were used to improve the preparation conditions of ${YBa_2}{Cu_3}{O_x}$ superconducting bulk samples and the properties of ${YBa_2}{Cu_3}{O_x}$ superconductors prepared with powders using sol-gel method and solid state reaction method were studied. The effects of the different powders and the additives to the density, grain alignment, and porosity of samples, that affect the critical current density of superconductor, also have been investigated. It is found that the properties of ${YBa_2}{Cu_3}{O_x}$ prepared with sol-gel synthesized powder and the additives showed better superconductivities than those of conventionally prepared superconductors.

  • The structural, electrical and magnetic properties were investigated for the high-Tc superconductor $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$, where x was 0.13. The results of temperature dependence of the resistivity and the magnetization in $YBa_2Cu_3O_{6.87}$ whose structure and phase are confirmed by arialysis of X-ray powder diffraction pattern have been reported. A very sharp superconductivity transition appears at 92K in the specimen whose chemical composition is determined from redox titration, strongly suggesting that this specimen consists of a single-phase superconductor. From the results of X-ray diffraction analysis, magnetization curves, levitation and resistance measurements, it is suggested that the observed superconductivity is bulk property in nature and that the $YBa_2Cu_3O_{6.87}$ phase is responsible for the superconductivity of the present reproducible specimen.

  • From 1994 the cooperation between NEU of China and MJU of South Korea for study of ReBaCuO (Re=Rare earth elements) superconductors has been carried out. The progress has been got in following projects. Critical current density ($J_c$) of YBaCuO superconductor prepared by Melting Textured Growth (MTG) was improved. In the preparation of textured YBaCuO, 20 wt.% of YBaCuO 211 phase was added, which would be climactic for the microcracks in the textured YBaCuO. The effects of the 211 phase and Ag content on the superconductivity were studied and discussed in detail. The improved $J_c$ value was reached to 8$\times$10^4 A/cm^2 (77K,0T). Single phase $YbBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{x}$ superconductor was sintered by the traditional powder metallurgical method, and its reaction process was studied. In recent years, NdBaCuO superconductor is being performed. The behavior of $Nd_{4}Ba_{2}Cu_{2}O_{10}$(Nd422 phase) and the solid solubility, x in the superconductor $Nd_{1+x}Ba_{2-x}Cu_{3}O_{y}$ by the heat treatment in the low oxygen partial pressure (1%) or Ar at $950{\circ}C$ were investigated. The zone-melting process was used to make oriented NdBaCuO superconductor in order to increase the critical current density.

Superconductivity in Fluorinated $YBa_2Cu_3O_{6+x}$

  • The YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O6+xstructures have been fluorinated by a gas phase exchange technique, and 19F NMR was used to identify the structural fluorine. Magnetic susceptibility measurements showed that the fluorination turned a marginally nonsuperconducting sample into a 40 K superconductor, as well as that it raised the onset of the superconducting transition of the 60 K superconductor YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O6.7 to about 100 K.
