  • Background and Purpose Through ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$, Dongmu Lee Je-ma supposed the minds of management for Sasang Constitutional Symptoms, which had been accomplished through several steps from his early writings to ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ published in 1901. His basic minds of treatment for disease had been supposed early in ${\ulcorner}$Gyojapyungseongjam${\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}$Gyukchigo${\lrcorner}$, and had been completed to the Sasang Constitutional Symptoms and the minds of management for it, from ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ written in 1894 to ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ published in 1901. In this paper, I tried to find the minds of treatment of ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$, through classifying and researching the early minds of treatment (presented in ${\ulcorner}$Gyojapyungseongjam${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$Gyukchigo${\ulcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun${\lrcorner}$), and the latter minds of treatment (presented in ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\ulcorner}$ written in 1894, ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ published in 1901) Methods It was researched as bibliologically with his writings such as ${\ulcorner}$Gyojapyungseongjam${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$Gyukchigo${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ written in 1894, ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ published in 1901. Results and Conclusions The conclusions were as follows. 1. At early, Dongmu Lee Je-ma pursued the minds of treatment at the autonomous control through 'Acquaintance and Self-control' based on 'the Knowledge of Nature and Desire', so emphasized 'self-control' as important point in treatment. 2. From ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun${\lcorner}$, Dongmu summarized Sasang constitutional symptoms structurally in view of Morpho-imaginary. In ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun${\lcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lcorner}$ written in 1894, It was described in view of small organ, but in ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lcorner}$ published in 1901, suggested more updated in view of both large and small organ and to which added the concept of Hot and Cold. 3. Through reinterpreting the concept of interior and exterior disease in ${\ulcorner}$Sanghanrhon${\lcorner}$, the concept of Sasang constitutional symptoms had started as the minds of treatment for individual disease, but in ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lcorner}$ published in 1901, it was accomplished as the minds of broad management for Sasang Constitutional Symptoms. 4. In ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lcorner}$ published in 1901, the broad therapeutic prescriptions for management of Sasang constitutional symptoms were proposed newly, according to the accomplishment of Sasang constitutional symptomatic patterns, so these have different aims and are more important than that proposed previously. 5. The control in view of 'Knowledge and Deed' and the minds of management for Sasang constitutional symptoms are the minds and spirits for treantment and prevention against disease, which can maximize the power of autonomous self-treatment and manage all disease broadly.

  • 1. Purpose: This study was intended to consider through a bibliographical comparison between the system of Kabo-Bon ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ and that of Shinehook-Pan ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$. 2. Method: This study was based on the ${\ulcorner}$Hamsansachon Dongyi Soose Bowon old Kabo-Bon${\lrcorner}$, which was compared with a bibliographical data from Shinchook-Pan ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ and the collection of manuscripts left unpublished in Lee Je-ma's lifetime. 3. Result & Conclusion: Exterior-Interior Pathological system was found in the system of Kabo-Bon ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$, and it might be referred to that of Jang Joong-kyung's ${\ulcorner}$Shanghan Ron${\lrcorner}$. There were no 'the Discourse on the Origin of oriental Medicine' and 'the Discourse on the General Health Maintenance' in the Kabo-Bon ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$. And it was supposed to be many changes of contents on 'the Discourse on Nature and Order', 'the Discourse on the Four Principles', 'the Discourse on the Establishment and Supplement' and 'the Discourse on Viscera and Bowels' in the Shinchook-Pan ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ compared with those in the Kabo-Bon ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$.

Background and Purpose ${\ulcorner}$DongyiSooseBowon${\lrcorner}$ is the book that was mixed ${\ulcorner}$GaboBon${\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}$KyungjaBon${\lrcorner}$ which was written by DongMu. But hardly any clause or text of the GaboBon excepting ${\ulcorner}$DongyiSooseBowon${\lrcorner}$ has been described. At the year of 2000, the society of sasang constitutional medicine acqired ${\ulcorner}$HamsanSachon DongyiSooseBowon GaboGubon${\lrcorner}$ which is seen as a written copy of ${\ulcorner}$GaboBon${\lrcorner}$. According to Lee Sung-Su who is the great-grandson of DongMu's older brother, ${\ulcorner}$HamsanSachon DongyiSooseBowon GaboGubon${\lrcorner}$ was worked by Lee Jin-Yoon who is the grandson of DongMu's older brother, and it was copied by Han Min-Gab and now is owned by Lee Sung-Su who is son of Lee Jin- Yoon. 2. Methods This paper was written in order to understand of ${\ulcorner}$HamsanSachon DongyiSooseBowon GaboGubon${\lrcorner}$ through the study to focus on the bibliographical character. 3. Result and Conclusion 1) It is reasonable that ${\ulcorner}$HamsanSachon DongyiSooseBowon GaboGubon${\lrcorner}$ had copied to the original ${\ulcorner}$DongyiSoose Bowon GaboGubon${\lrcorner}$ which was written by DongMu. 2) We can find the character of ${\ulcorner}$HamsanSachon DongyiSooseBowon GaboGubon${\lrcorner}$ as follows. (1) It has the table of contents, the definition of the number of the texts, and the article number of each texts. (2) ${\ulcorner}$KyungJaBon${\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}$SinchukBon${\lrcorner}$ has different number of the texts about ${\ulcorner}$The general remarks on the Soyangin${\lrcorner}$. (3) It is different with original ${\ulcorner}$GaboBon${\lrcorner}$ because of the extracting marks of the text. (4) It is supposed that it has the pares which was additionally or wrongly amended by someone. 3) We can consider that the character of original ${\ulcorner}$GaboBon${\lrcorner}$ which was written by DongMu from ${\ulcorner}$HamsanSachon DongyiSooseBowon GaboGubon${\lrcorner}$ as follows. (1) ${\ulcorner}$The Discourse on Nature and Order${\lrcorner}$${\sim}$${\ulcorner}$The Discourse on the Four Principles${\lrcorner}$ is original articles of ${\ulcorner}$GaboBon${\lrcorner}$. (2) The head title of${\ulcorner}$The Discourse on the Origin of Oriental Medicine${\lrcorner}$ was not in ${\ulcorner}$GaboBon${\lrcorner}$. (3) It is not clear whether ${\ulcorner}$The Discourse on the General Health Maintenance${\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}$The Discourse on Identifying Four Constitutions${\lrcorner}$ is original texts or amended texts of ${\ulcorner}$GaboBon${\lrcorner}$. So it is required more study about it.

Purpose The purpose of this article was to find the change of Dong-mu's conceptions about constitutional disease through comparing with ${\ulcorner}$Sasang-Yihak-chobonguen${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ written in 1894(Old edition) and ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ published in 1901(In Edition) 2. Methods Comparing with ${\ulcorner}$Sasang-Yihak-chobonguen${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ written in 1894(Old edition) and ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ published in 1901(In Edition) we found the change of Dong-mu's conceptio ns about constitutional disease 3. Result 1) In ${\ulcorner}$Sasang-Yihak-chobonguen${\lrcorner}$, diseases were classified 'Oi-Gam(外感)‘, ’Nae-sang(內傷)‘, ’Ok-roi(牢獄)‘. ’Wi-gyoung(危傾)‘. In ${\ulcorner}$Sasang-Yihak-chobonguen${\lrcorner}$ ordinary symptoms was more impotant than disease, and good life style was emplasized for health 2) In ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ written in 1894(Old edition), diseases were classified 'Oi-Gam(外感)‘, ’Nae-sang(內傷)‘. siseases from exterior causes was classified into 'Oi-gam-noi-chu-byoung(外傷腦?頁病)’, and diseases from interior causes was classified into 'Nae-sang-wi-wan-byoung(內觸胃脘病).‘ Herbal medication yet was't used by Disease 3) In ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon${\lrcorner}$ published in 1901(In Edition), diseases was classified not by causes of disease but by mechanism and symptom of disease, so into Exterior-cold disease' and 'Interior-hot disease'. Herbal medication was used by pattern of Disease. 4) Conception of constitutional diseases was gradualy complished through edition.

  • 1. Objects of Research This research is purposed to find Dong-mu's thought on 'Knowing-Airing(知行), through summarizing sentences related to 'Knowing-Acting(知行)'proposed in his writings. 2. Results and Conclusions 1.'Knowing(知)'is related to recognition of 'Mind(心)' and 'Acting(行)' is related to practice of 'Body(身)' in ${\ulcorner}$Gyukchigo(格致藁)${\lrcorner}$ . 'Knowing-Acting(知行)' in ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon(東醫壽世保元四象草本卷)${\lrcorner}$ is difffrent from 'Knowing-Acting(知行)' in ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun(束醫壽世保元圖象草本卷${\lrcorner}$ 'Knowing(知)'is conception of marals such as 'Humanity Jusrire propriety Wisdom(仁義禮智)' and Loyality Filialpiety Friendship Fraternity(忠孝友悌)'. 'Acting(行)' is conception of productivity such as 'Scholar Farm Engineer Merchannt(士農工商)' and 'Field Residence District Nation (田業邦國). 4. 'Knowing-Acting(知行)' in ${\ulcorner}$Dong-mu's posthumos work(東武遺葉)${\ulcorner}$ was c1assified into large and small one. The large one is private and the small one is public. It is imponant to become sincere and respectful for achieve 'Ideal medium of Knowing-Acting.'.

  • To understand characteristic of preservation of health in Sasang constitutional medicine, 1 first study preservation of health In ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Bogam${\lrcorner}$, and then study preservation of health in the ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun${\lrcorner}$ particularly Inherent vitality(命脈實數) and Regimen in ordinary life(生息充補之道) which shows early thought of Lee Je-ma. I acquire relation and difference between ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Bogam${\lrcorner}$ and Dongyi Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun${\lrcorner}$, and conclude as follows. 1. In preservation of health ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Bogam${\lrcorner}$ says Ups and downs of Qi according to degree, tells congenital health and acquired care of health, grades Jin-In, Ji-In, Seong-In, Hyeon-In according to degree of moral culture, and especially emphasizes managing mind which is based on Taoism. 2. In ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun${\lrcorner}$ Dongmu divides human being to Sasangin(Taeyangin, Taeumin, Soyangin, Soeumin) according to Large & small of viscera, and regards as determine lift span and rendition of disease & health according to Inherent vitality which is degree of Small viscera. 3. Inherent vitality of Sasangin is supplemented by Regimen in ordinary life. Because Regimen in ordinary life decreases according to age, Dongmu emphasizes managing mind through an autonomic Knowledge Deed to maintain Regimen in ordinary life. 4. In the way of managing mind ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Bogam${\lrcorner}$ says Taoist moral culture, but Dongmu emphasized control of knowledge and Deed by Confucian moral culture and the mind of control others through confucian self-control.

Background and Purpose At the year of 2000, the society of Sasang Constitutional Medicine acquired ${\ulcorner}$HamsanSachon DongyiSooseBowon GaboGubon${\lrcorner}$ which is seen as a written copy of ${\ulcorner}$GaboBon${\lrcorner}$. According to Lee Sung-su who is the great-grandson of DongMu's older brother, ${\ulcorner}$HamsanSachon DongyiSooseBowon GaboGubon${\lrcorner}$ was worked by Lee Jin-yoon who is the grandson of DongMu's older brother, and it was copied by Han Min-gab and now is owned by Lee Sung-su who is son of Lee Jin-yoon. 2. Methods This paper was written in order to understand of the character of the discourse on the medications and prescriptions of the ${\ulcorner}$HamsanSachon DongyiSooseBowon GaboGubon${\lrcorner}$. 3. Result and Conclusion 1) Newly created prescriptions of ${\ulcorner}$GaboBon${\lrcorner}$ is composed of the 125 medications of Soeumin 46, Soyangin 36, Taeumin 29, Taeyangin 14. Regarding with that prescriptions, the average number of the medications per prescription is 9.3 and the average capacity of that is 42.6gram. 2) The experimental prescription is from ${\ulcorner}$GaboBon${\lrcorner}$. All the 37 prescriptions of ${\ulcorner}$Sanghanlon${\lrcorner}$ is found at the text of ${\ulcorner}$GaboBon${\lrcorner}$, and only 12 of 37 prescriptions of Traditional Medicine excepting ${\ulcorner}$Sanghanlon${\lrcorner}$ is described at the text of it. Hardly any case of treatment by Traditional Prescription can be found at the discourse on constitunal symptoms and diseases. 3) Only 13 of 69 newly created prescriptions is not prescribed at ${\ulcorner}$GaboBon${\lrcorner}$, and 7 of the 13 prescriptions don't have the symptom of charge also. 4) 6 prescriptions which are supposed to newly created prescriptions of ${\ulcorner}$The Discourse on Constitutional Symptoms and Diseases${\lrcorner}$ are not describe to the composition of medications. 5) All the newly created prescriptions of ${\ulcorner}$The General Remarks on the Soeumin${\lrcorner}$ of ${\ulcorner}$SinChucBon${\lrcorner}$ are to be regarded as GaboBon's.

The cause of disease is classified into interior cause and exterior cause. Interior cause could be used in cause of disease, exterior cause could be used in prevention of illness, treatment of disease and preservation of health. 4. The treatment of disease proposed in ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun(東醫壽世保元四象草本卷${\lrcorner}$ is that it is to recover 'Essential Qi of Constitution(體質正氣)' by medicine and management of 'Mind-Body(心身)' and that chronic disease is treated chiefly by management but acute disease is treated chiefly by medicine. 5. Allergy disease should be prevented by management of 'Mind-Body(心身)'. but if we suffer from allergy disease, we should treat disease through recovering 'Essential Qi of Constitution(體質正氣)' both medicine and management of 'Mind-Body(心身)'.

But he changes the meaning of Taegeuk(太極), LangYui(兩儀), Sasang(四象) on the respect of human being. Gyuchigo(格致藁) can be understood as social behavior pattern of Sasang constitute. From ${\ulcorner}$Gyukchigo(格致藁)${\lrcorner}$ to The theory of Sung-Meung(性命論), It is focused on Nature(性) and Order(命). Affairs- Mind - Body-Objects(事心身物) was distributed at Heaven-Human -Nature-Order(天人性命) on the respect of Human Moral. In the respect of Form-Use(體用), It is assigned to Form(體) and metaphysical philosophy. After The theory of Sa-Dan(四端論) in ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Soose Bowon(東醫壽世保元) ${\lrcorner}$, It is focused on Nature-Emotion(性情). Affairs - Mind - Body - Objects(事心身物)is distributed at Heaven-Human -Nature-Order (天人性命) on the respect of human internal mind. In the respect of Form-Use(體用), It is assigned to Use(用) and Physical science. Sasang Constitution can be expanded to Eight COnstitution in the respect of dominant position among Nature(性) and Emotion(情).
