We propose a research for detection of the fluoride ion using borane compounds. Based on the Lewis acid-base reaction, we discussed the fundamental of sensing for fluoride ion. One of the important aspects in the chemistry of organoboranes is their behaviors as Lewis acids, which is a result of the vacant $2p_{\pi}$ orbital on the tricoordinate boron center. The electronic interaction between boron atoms and ${\pi}$-orbitals of donor molecules, constructed from the carbon 2p orbitals, is generally strong. Boron atoms can reach the desired octet configuration either through ${\pi}$-overlap with a suitable X or through formation of Lewis acid-Lewis base complexes.

In this study, we investigated the generation of pretilt angle for nematic liquid crystal (NLC) in a cell with oblique non-polarized ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation on polyimide (PI) surfaces. It was found that the monodomain alignment of the NLC is obtained in a cell with an angle of incidence of 70∼85$^{\circ}$on PI surface. We consider that the monodomain alignment of NLC is attributed to anisotropic dispersion force effect due to Photo-depolymerization of polymer on PI surfaces. Also, pretilt angle of NLC is generated about 3$^{\circ}$ with an angle of incidence of 70∼75$^{\circ}$. It is considered that the pretilt angle generation in NLC is attributed to interaction between the LC molecules and the polymer surfaces.
A novel supramolecular network containing binuclear copper unit $[Cu(phen)_{2}({\mu}-ID\;A)Cu(phen){\cdot}(NO_{3})](NO_{3}){\cdot}4(H_{2}O)$ (1) was synthesized through the self-assembly of iminodiacetic acid ($H_2IDA$) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) in the condition of pH = 6. It has been characterized by the infrared (IR) spectroscopy, elemental analysis, single crystal X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). 1 shows a 2-D supramolecular structure assembled through strong and unique $\pi-\pi$ packing interactions. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that theoretical optimized structures can well reproduce the experimental structure. The TGA and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) curves indicate that the complex 1 can maintain the structural integrity even at the loss of free water molecules. The magnetic property is also reported in this paper.

The control of tilt angle for nematic liquid crystal (NLC) with negative and positive dielectric anisotropy on the rubbed homeotropic polyimide (PI) using baking method by hot plate equipment was investigated. LC tilt angle decreased with increasing baking temperature and time. Especially, the low LC tilt angle of positive type NLC ($\Delta\varepsilon$ >0) on the rubbed homeotropic PI surface by increasing temperature and time was measured. The tilt angle of positive type NLC ($\Delta\varepsilon$ >0) is smaller than that of the negative type ($\Delta\varepsilon$ >0) on rubbed PI with increasing baking temperature and time. We consider that the tilt angle of NLC is decreased due to increasing the steric interaction between horizon component of permittivity $\varepsilon$ = of NLC and the stress of polymer side chain by high temperature.
Mechanisms underlying the impacts of interactions between carbon nanoparticles (CNPs) and ionic liquids (ILs) on the physicochemical behavior of CNPs need to be more full worked out. This manuscript describes a theoretical investigation at multiple levels on the interactions of fullerene $C_{60}$ with 21 imidazolium-based ILs of varying alkyl side chain lengths and anionic types and their impacts on $C_{60}$ dispersion behavior. Results show that ${\pi}$-cation interaction contributed to mechanism of the $C_{60}$-IL interaction more than ${\pi}$-anion interaction. The calculated interaction energy ($E_{INT}$) indicates that $C_{60}$ can form stable complex with each IL molecule. Moreover, the direction of charge transfer occurred from IL to $C_{60}$ during the $C_{60}$-IL interaction. Quantitative models were developed to evaluate the self-diffusion coefficient of $C_{60}$ ($D_{fullerene}$) in bulk ILs. Three interpretative molecular descriptors (heat of formation, $E_{INT}$, and charge) that describe the $C_{60}$-IL interactions and the alkyl side chain length were found to be determinants affecting $D_{fullerene}$.

Effects of ion species on the expansion behavior of Poly(styrene sufonic acid)(PSSA) hydrogel were investigated in aqueous solution of selected anions, cations and hydrophobic ions. The deexpansion extent of Poly(stylene sulfonic acid) gel follow the sequence $SCN^-$<$Br^-$<$Cl^-$<$F^-$ in low concentration solutions due to the destabilization of anions to hydrogen bond between ${SO_3}^-$ and water. The deexpansion in cations followed the sequence of counterion interactions between ${SO_3}^-$ and cations. It was discussed the effects of ions on the hydrogen bonding through ${SO_3}^-$ and phenyl ring in salt solutions. Other interactions, such as the cation-${\pi}$ interaction, hydrophobic interaction, and dispersion force, contributed to the ion specific swelling of PSSA hydrogel.
The commercially available Amberlite XAD-2 and XAD-4 resins were modified with macrocyclic protoporphyrin IX (PPIX) or tetrakis(p-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin (TCPP) to enhance the adsorption capacity for phenol and chlorophenols. The chemically modified polymeric adsorbents (XAD-2+PPIX, XAD-2+TCPP, XAD-4+PPIX, and XAD-4+TCPP) were applied to the solid phase extraction as an adsorbent material for the preconcentration of phenol and chlorophenols in environmental waters. Generally, the synthesized adsorbents showed higher recoveries than underivatized adsorbents, XAD-2 and XAD-4, without matrix interferences. Especially, XAD-4+PPIX showed more than 90% recoveries for all compounds used in this study including hydrophilic phenol. The major factor for the increase of the adsorption capacity was the increase of $\pi$-$\pi$ interaction between adsorbents and samples due to the introduction of the porphyrin molecule. However, the breakthrough volumes and recovery values of the XADs+TCPP columns were slightly decreased for the bulky chlorophenols such as TCP and PCP. Using molecular mechanics methods, the structures of TCPP and PPIX were compared with that of porphine, the parent molecule of porphyrin. Four bulky p-carboxyphenyl groups of TCPP were torsional each other, thus the molecular plane of TCPP were not on the same level. In conclusion, the decrease of breakthrough volumes and recovery values of XADs+TCPP columns for bulky phenols can be explained by the steric hindrance of the $\pi$-$\pi$ interaction between porphyrin plane and the phenols.
On the basis of the previous study[1], miscibility were investigated and intermolecular interaction strength for the miscibility were relatively compared for the blends poly{2,2-(m-phenylene)-5,5'-bibenzimidazole}(PBI) with two aromatic polyimides (PIs) synthesized by another dianhydride. Aromatic PAAs were prepared by the reaction of condensation of two diamines, 4,4'-methylene dianiline(4,4'-MDA) and 4,4'-oxydianiline(4,4'-ODA) with 3,3',4,4'-diphenylsulfone tetracarboxylic dianhydride(DSDA) using DMAc, and then converted into PIs after curing. PBI/PAA blends were prepared by solution blending. Cast films or precipitated powders of the PBI/PAA blends were cared at a high temperature to transform into PBI/PIs blends. Miscibility and specific intermolecular interaction for miscibility in the blends were investigated, and compared with previous polyimide structures of PBI/PIs blends [1]. Two blends, PBI/DSDA+4,4'-MDA(Blend-V) and PBI/DSDA+4,4'-ODA(Blend-VI), were found miscible : the evidences were optically clear films, synergistic single composition dependent $T_g{\prime}s$, and frequency shifts of N-H stretching band as much as $39{\sim}40cm^{-1}$, and of C=O stretching band near 1730 and $1780cm^{-1}$, 5~6 and $3{\sim}4cm^{-1}$, respectively. The specific intermolecular interactions existing between PBI and PIs were relatively analyzed with the area(A) formed between the $T_g{\prime}s$ of the measured and that of the calculated by the Fox equation at all compositions, the ${\kappa}$ values in Gordon-Taylor equation obtained from the measured $T_g{\prime}s$, and differences of the frequency shifts in the functional N-H and carbonyl stretching band. From the results, the area(A) and the ${\kappa}$ values for Blend-V and VI were smaller than those for Blend-III and IV used in previous study[1]. Differences of the frequency shifts in the functional groups(N-H and C=O) also showed similar tendency. Thus, specific intermolecular interaction strength in terms of hydrogen bonding of PBI/PI blends is dependent upon chemical structures of PIs, that is, PIs it seems that $SO_2$ group in dianhydride(DSDA) has weaker hydrogen bond strength than those of C=O in BTDA. In other words, it implies that the former occupied bulk space than the latter due to the sterric effect.
The plasma membrane plays a crucial role in relaying signals from the outside environment to the inside of the cells. In eukaryotic cells, the inner leaflets of the plasma membrane are composed mostly of phospholipids, including phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylserine (PS), and phosphatidylinositides (PIs). In this study, we tried to analyze the morphological changes induced by EGFP-fused membrane binding proteins, which are targeted to the plasma membrane via specific phospholipids binding. As a result, we found that overexpression of EGFP-P4M-SidM, a specific PI4P binding protein, or EGFP alone, did not induce any morphological changes. On the other hand, overexpression of EGFP-PLCδ1(PH), which is a specific PI(4,5)P2 binding protein, EGFP-AKT1(PH) which binds to PI(3,4,5)P3, or EGFP-OSH2(PH)×2 which binds to PI4P and PI(4,5)P2, could induce the filopodia and lamilapodia formation as well as cell shrinkage. Overexpression of Lact-C2-EGFP which is a specific PS-binding probe, EGFP fused Aplysia phosphodiesterase 4 (ApPDE4) long-form (L(N20)-EGFP) which is localized to the plasma membrane via hydrophobic interaction, or EGFP fused Aplysia PDE4 short-form (S(N-UCR1-2)-EGFP) which is localized to the plasma membrane via electrostatic interaction, could induce cell shrinkage, but not filopodia or lamilapodia formation. Taken together, our data support that the different phospholipid bindings in the plasma membrane could induce different characteristic morphological changes. Thus, we can analyze, characterize, and classify the cellular morphological changes induced by the various phospholipid binding proteins.
Ab initio and DFT molecular orbital calculations predict that acetyl radical reacts with acetylene through interactions primarily involving the SOMO of the radical and the in-plane ${\pi}$-bond of acetylene. An energy barrier (${\Delta}E_1$) of 39.6 kJ $mol^{-1}$ is predicted for the preferred anti arrangement of reactants at the CCSD(T)/cc-pVDZ//BHandHLYP/cc-pVDZ level of theory. NBO analysis reveals additional interactions between the radical SOMO and the nearby C-H ${\sigma}$-bond in acetylene worth about 10% of the total transition state interaction energy. This type of orbital interaction has not previously been observed in radical addition reactions involving C-C ${\pi}$-bonds.
