  • Bacillus Anthracis is the causative agent of anthrax. The major virulence factors are a poly-D glutamic acid capsule and three-protein component exotoxin, which is collectively known as anthrax toxin, protective antigen (PA, 83 kDa), lethal factor (LF, 90 kDa), and edema factor (EF, 89 kDa). These three proteins individually have no known toxic activities, but in combination with PA form two toxins (lethal toxin and edema toxin), causing different pathogenic responses in animals and cultured cells. However, it remains to be elucidated for pathogenic mechanism of anthrax toxin. In this study, we constructed toxin component in bacterial overexpression system and purified the native toxin from Bacillus anthracis delta sterne F32 using FPLC system. Recombinant toxin showed high homogeneity and rapid purification processes. Also, this recombinant toxin was comparable to B. anthracis native toxin in terms of cytotoxic effects on cultured cell lines.

  • IPNs have interpenetrating motion and phase separation behavior of independent polymers, respectively, and also these are affected by the physical interaction of polymer components. First of all, 2- and 3-component IPNs based on PU are prepared by combination with two or three components of PU, PMMA, PS and epoxy resin. And then the entire physical properties concerning morphological and mechanical behaviors of these IPNs are measured by employing FT-IR, SEM, Rheovibron, and DSC, etc. Compared with pure component, Tg's of IPN are shifted to higher temperature in all IPN kinds, and these are considered in attribution to internal movement of glass transition temperature or partial phenomenon of interpenetration. Rheovibron measurement results in a broader distribution with peaks of tan${\delta}$ or E", and this morphologically represents a medium degree of partially mixed IPNs in confirmation of SEM photographs.

  • This study was performed to develop the precise and rapid method to distinguish the blended sesame oil through the electronic nose analysis. The sesame oil was blended with corn oil at the ratio of 95:5, 90:10, 80:20(w/w), respectively. Samples were then analyzed by gas chromatography, SPME-GC/MS and the electronic nose composed of 12 metal oxide sensors. The sensetivities(delta Rgas/Rair) of sensors by electronic nose was carried out with principal component analysis(PCA). The proportion of first principal component showed 98.76%. In this study, the electronic nose analysis could be used as a competent method to classify for genuine sesame oil.

  • We present the rst period variation study for the Algol eclipsing binary V346 Cyg by constructing the (O-C) residual diagram using all the available precise minima times. We conclude that the period variation can be explained by a sine-like variation due to the presence of a third body orbiting the binary in about $68.89{\pm}4.69$ years, together with a long-term orbital period decrease ($dP/dt=-1.23{\times}10^{-7}day/yr$) that can be interpreted to be due to slow mass loss from the ${\delta}$-Scuti primary component. The sinusoidal variation may also be explained by using the the Applegate (1992) mechanism involving cyclic magnetic activity due to star-spots on the secondary component. The present preliminary solution needs more precise photometric observations to be confirmed.

  • A theoretical model to predict the effective thermal conductivity of sands Is developed by considering the participating heat transfer mechanisms and their relationship to the model geometry. Comparison between the calculations and the measurements indicates that the assumptions to introduce two model constants (${\phi}_{af}$ and ${\delta}$) for model development were justified. As a results, the model was proved to predict the effective thermal conductivities of 2- and 3-component systems of two silica sands saturated with fluids or bonded with liquid binders in a reasonable accuracy.

  • Electronic-nose system was used to discriminate commercial sesame oils (A-F) extracted from imported seeds. Response (delta $R_{gas}/R_{air}$) of sensors gained from electronic nose was analyzed by principal component analysis (PCA). Flavor pattern of sesame oil A was similar to those of sesame oils B, C, and D. Sesame oils blended with corn oil at the ratio of 95:5, 90:10 and 80:20% (sesame oil/corn oil, w/w) could be discriminated from ouch genuine sesame oil.

  • The dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) is an effective protection device for wind turbine generator based on doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) operated under the unbalanced voltage dip conditions. The compensating voltages of DVR depend on the voltage dips and on the influence of the zero sequence components. If the $Y_0/{\Delta}$ step-up transformers are used, there are no zero sequence components on the DFIG side. However, if the $Y_0/Y_0$ step-up transformers are used, the zero sequence components will appear during faults. The zero sequence components result in the high insulation costs and the asymmetric of the terminal voltages. This paper proposes a method for controlling zero sequence components in DVR to protect DFIG under unbalanced voltage dips. Simulation results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

  • The zebrafish(Danio rerio) is a pre-eminent vertebrate model system for clarification of the roles of specific genes and signaling pathways in development. We show examples of positional cloning in two developmental mutants in zebrafish. headless: The severe head defects in headless(hdl) mutants are due to a mutation in T-cell factor-3(Tcf3). Loss of Tcf3 function in the hdl mutant reveals that Hdl represses Wnt target genes. The results provide genetic evidence that a component of the Wnt signaling pathway is essential in vertebrate head formation and patterning. mind bomb: Reduced lateral inhibition in mind bomb(mib) mutants permits too many neural precursors to differentiate as neurons. Positional cloning of mib revealed that it is a gene in the Notch pathway that encodes a ubiquitin E3 ligase. Mib interacts with the intracellular domain of Delta to promote its internalization. The results suggest a model for Notch activation where the Delta-Notch interaction is followed by endocytosis of Delta and transendocytosis of the Notch extracellular domain by the signaling cell.

  • Background: Acute leukaemia is characterized by fast growth of abnormal clones of haemopoietic precursor cells inside bone marrow leading to undue accumulation in the bone marrow. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common form of childhood cancer. Materials and Methods: The study concerned 50 children diagnosed with ALL (mean age, $8.55{\pm}2.54$) compared to 40 healthy controls (mean age, $8.00{\pm}1.85$). The Hb, serum copper, ceruloplasmin oxidase, advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs), total antioxidant activity (TAA) and protein were measured in all groups. One proteinous component was isolated by gel filtration chromatography from the precipitate produced by polyethylene glycol. Results: Significantly higher levels of AOPP, copper and decrease in total antioxidant activity were noted in the cases. Statistical analysis also showed a significant increase (p<0.01) in the activity of serum ceruloplasmin oxidase in patients with ALL compared to normal subjects .The maximum velocity (Vmax) and Michaelis constant had values of 104.2 U/L and 11.7 mM, respectively. The ${\Delta}H^*$ values for ceruloplasmin oxidase in ALL patients were positive, confirming the reaction to be endothermic. Conclusions: The results from this study showed a significant increase in AOPP, ceruloplasmine oxidase and decrease in total antioxidant activity .These parameters may play a role in development of DNA damage in childhood patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).The ${\Delta}S^*$ and ${\Delta}G^*$ values were negative, these refer that the reaction of ES formation is spontaneous, but needs energy in a so-called endergonic reaction. Also the negative ${\Delta}S^*$ value of ceruloplasmin oxidase indicates that the complex [$ES^*$] is further modulated through increasing structure arrangement.
