Mechanically Driven Decomposition of Intermetallics

  • Mechanically driven decomposition of intermetallics during mechanical milling(MM 1 was investigated. This process for Fe-Ce and Fe-Sn system was studied using conventional XRD, DSC, magnetization and alternative current susceptibility measurements. Mechanical alloying and milling form products of the following composition (in sequence of increasing Gecontent): $\alpha$(${\alpha}_1$) bcc solid solution, $\alpha$+$\beta$-phase ($Fe_{2-x}Ge$), $\beta$-phase, $\beta$+FeGe(B20), FeGE(B20), FeGe(B20)+$FeGe_2$,$FeGe_2$,$FeGe_2$+Ge, Ge. Incongruently melting intermetallics $Fe_6Ge_5$ and $Fe_2Ge_3$ decompose under milling. $Fe_6Ge_5$ produces mixture of $\hat{a}$-phase and FeGe(B20), $Fe_2Ge_3$ produces mixture of FeGe(B20) and $FeGe_2$ phases. These facts are in good agreement with the model that implies local melting as a mechanism of new phase for-mation during medchanical alloying. Stability of FeGe(B20) phase, which is also incongruently melting compound, is explained as a result of highest density of this phase in Fe-Ge system. Under mechanical milling (MM) in planetary ball mill, FeSn intermetallic decomposes with formation $Fe_5Sn_3$ and $FeSn_2$ phases, which have the biggest density among the phases of Fe-Sn system. If decomposition degree of FeSn is relatively small(<60%), milled powder shows superparamagnetic behavior at room temperature. For this case, magnetization curves can be fitted by superposition of two Langevin functions. particle sizes for ferromagnetic $Fe_5Sn_3$ phase determined from fitting parameters are in good agreement with crystalline sizes determined from XRD data and remiain approximately chageless during MM. The decomposition of FeSn is attributed to the effects of local temperature and local pressure produced by ball collisions.

  • 블루 안료 15 : 6이라 불리는 ${\epsilon}$ 결정상의 동프탈로시아닌(${\epsilon}$-CuPc)는 LCD 패널에서 청색화소를 제공하는 중요한 소재로써, 본 연구에서는 ${\epsilon}$-CuPc 시료를 ${\epsilon}$-CuPc 나노 입자를 seed로 이용하는 방법으로 여러 조건에서 합성하여 적합한 용매 및 온도조건 등을 규명하였고, 이를 미리 합성한 ${\alpha}$${\beta}$ 결정상의 CuPc 시료들과 비교함으로써 ${\epsilon}$-CuPc 시료의 결정상, 결정 순도, 합성 수율 및 미세구조를 상호 비교 분석하였다. 시료들의 화학 구조 및 결정 구조는 푸레어 변환 적외선(FT-IR) 분광기 및 X선 회절 분석기(XRD)를 이용하여 각각 비교 분석하였다. 또한, 입자의 형상 및 크기는 주사 전자현미경(FE-SEM)으로 비교 분석하였고, 열적 특성은 열중량분석기(TGA)를 이용하여 비교 분석하였다.

  • 수산화아파타이트(HAp) 및 P-인산3칼슘($\beta$-TCP)으로 구성되는 2상 인산칼슘염(BCP)을 고상반응법으로 합성하고, 이를 상압 및 autoclave를 이용한 고압에서 수열반응 시킴으로써 응집입자의 미세화를 시도하였다. 이 과정에서 일어나는 결정 상 및 화학조성, 구성상의 상대적인 양, 비표면적, 미세구조의 변화에 미치는 공정조건의 영향을 XRD, FT-IR, 질소흡착에 의한 BET법, SEM을 이용하여 검토하였다.

실리카 표면의 실란화에 대한 범밀도 함수 계산 (Density functional study of silanization of the silica surface)

  • Density functional calculations have been performed for the reactions of perfluoroalkylsilane and alkylsilane with silica surfaces. The (100) and (111) surfaces of ${\beta}-cristobalite$ are used as two possible models of the hydroxylated amorphous silica surface. This is the crystalline phase of silica with density and refractive index closest to those of amorphous silica. Moreover, two ${\beta}-cristobalite$ surfaces have the two types of silanol groups, namely the single silanols and the geminal silanols. We investigate the possible adsorption structure and formation energy of perfluoroalkylsilane and alkylsilane molecules with two type of silanol groups. The results will be compared with cluster and slab model.

투명 결정화유리의 구조에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Structure of Transparent Glass Ceramics)

  • Parent glasses for the experiments were prepared to be ratio of Li2O : Al2O3 : SiO2=4.5 : 25 : 70.5 as basic components, and TiO2 and ZrO2 in the mixing ratio of 1 : 1 were added as the nucleating agents, whose contents were increased in each sample. DTA, XRD, SEM, IR were observed, and thermal expansion and transmissivities were measured for the crystallized samples under the controlled heat-treatments. The transformation temperatures and the dilatometric softening temperatures in thermal expansion curves, and also the exothermic peaks in differential thermo-analytical curves were shifted to lower temperature. The crystal phase deposited through the heat-treatment was identified as ${\beta}$-quartz solid solution with XRD and IR analysis. The crystalline phases in oopactified samples were ${\beta}$-spodumene coexiting with ${\beta}$-quartz solid solution. The samples having more than 3% nucleating agents were transparent. The crystallized grain sizes were ranged 0.05 to 0.1$\mu\textrm{m}$. The crystallized transparent samples were exceeded 85% in the transmissivity.

${29}^Si$ MAS NMR Study on Quantitative Analysis of the Amorphous Phase in a $Si_3N_4$ Powder

  • NMR study has been used for measuring precise quantity of the amorphous phase in the $Si_3N_4$powder. Care must be taken to allow the $^{29}$Si nuclear spin system to fully relax between pulses in order to make the signals proportional to the number of nuclei in each phase. $^{29}$Si MAS spectrum was decomposed into the three spectra of $\alpha$-, $\beta$-, and amorphous $Si_3N_4$assuming pseudo-Voigt function. Moreover, the Rietveld analysis of the powder X-ray diffraction data was performed to measure quantity of crystalline phases as $\alpha/\beta$ ratio.

  • PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) has at least from known crystalline structure ( ; they are referred to as the $\alpha$, $\beta$, $\gamma$ and $\alpha_p$ phase or forms II, I, III and $IV_p$). In this study, the manufactured PVDF thin films through vapor deposition method had for II ( ; the substrate temperature at 30$^{\circ}C$). The dielectric behavior of poly(vinylidene fluoride) is affected by orientation and crystal modification. The very high value of the dielectric constant for high temperature conditioned film is believed to be due to the orientation effect. The loss peak caused by molecular motion of the molecules in crystalline regions.

2단계 열처리법으로 제조된 석탄바닥재가 주성분인 결정화 유리에 관한 연구 (Study on the glass-ceramics containing coal bottom ashes fabricated by 2-stages heat treatment method)

  • 화력발전소에서 배출된 석탄 바닥재(bottom ash, B/A)를 이용하여 결정화 유리를 제조하고 그 결정상, 미세구조 및 기계적 특성을 분석하였다. 먼저 바닥재의 용융점을 낮추기 위해 수식제로 $Li_2O$를 첨가하고 용융하여 유리를 제조하였다. 제조된 유리는 2단계 열처리 공정을 이용하여 결정화시켰다. 즉 핵형성을 위한 1차 열처리를 한 후 결정성장을 시키는 2차 열처리를 행함으로서 결정화도를 높이고자 하였다. 제조원 결정화유리에는 주 결정상으로 ${\beta}$-spodumene상이 그리고 부차적인 상으로 $Li_2SiO_3$이 생성되었다. 결정화된 시편의 결정화도는 2차 열처리 공정의 유지시간이 길수록 증가하였다. 유지시간이 3시간 이하일 때의 시편의 미세구조는 결정화가 완전히 일어나지 않았고 불균일한 형상을 보였으며 또한 9시간 이상이 되면 시편 내부에 균열이 발생하였으며, 이로 인하여 기계적 강도가 감소하였다. 결론적으로 시편의 결정화도가 우수하고, 미세구조가 균일하면서 기계적 강도값이 가장 높은 물성을 갖는 유리상의 제조가 가능한 조건을 얻을 수 있었다.

탄화규소의 액상소결 (Liquid Phase Sintering of Silicon Carbide)

  • Systematic studies of the effects of additives and processing variables on the sintered density and the effect of crystalline forms of starting powders on the microstructure of pressureless sintered silicon carbide are described. Oxide additives were effective for the densification of SiC up to 96% of theoretical density at temperature as low as 185$0^{\circ}C$. Use of embedding powder increased the sintered density, up to 98% of theoretical density, by decreasing the weight loss during sintering. Composite type duplex microstructure has been developed due to the $\beta$longrightarrow$\alpha$ phase transformation of SiC by sintering at 185$0^{\circ}C$ and heat treatment at 195$0^{\circ}C$ for 1h.

  • $Si_{3}N_{4}$에 평균입경이 270 nm인 SiC 분말을 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 vol% 첨가하여 고온 가압소결법으로 $Si_{3}N_{4}/SiC$ 초미립복합재료를 제조하였다. 소결후 기지상인 ${\alpha}-Si_{3}N_{4}$${\beta}-Si_{3}N_{4}$로 상전이하였으며, 이차상인 ${\beta}-SiC$는 변화가 없었다. 소결조제의 첨가에 의한 입계결정상은 검출되지 않았다. SiC의 첨가량이 많아짐에 따라 $Si_{3}N_{4}$ 결정립성장은 억제되어 미세한 결정입이 나타났으며, 작은 임자는 기지상 임내에 큰 SiC는 임계에 존재하였다. SiC 첨가에 따라 파괴강도는 약간 증가후 감소하였으며, 파괴인성은 감소하였고, 경도는 직선적으로 증가하였다.
