Background: Transforming growth factor- alpha(TGF-$\alpha$) may play important roles in carcinogenesis, tumor growth, and angiogenesis. Transforming growth factor-beta(TGF-$\beta$) are known to be involved in cell-cycle control and regeneration. TGF-$\alpha$ positively acts on growth control of many epithelial cells in contrast to the negative role of TGF-$\beta$. Method: To evaluate the possible role of TGF-$\alpha$ and TGF-$\beta$ in human primary lung cancers, the expression of TGF-$\alpha$ and TGF-$\beta$ were immmunohistochemically investigated in tissue sections from forty seven cases with lung cancers and ten cases with non-cancerous lung tissues. Recombinant cloned monoclonal antibody of TGF-$\alpha$ and neutralizing antibody of TGF-$\beta$ were employed as primary antibodies after dewaxing the formalin-fixed, paraffinized tissue sections. Results: TGF-$\alpha$ was expressed in the cytoplasms of tumor cells in thirty five cases of forty seven(74.5%) primary lung cancers, whereas the control expressed in two of ten brochial epithelial cells. The expression of TGF-$\alpha$ was disclosed in four cases of eleven(36.4 %) small cell carcinomas and thirty one cases of thirty six(86.1%) non-small cell carcinomas of the lung. Expressions of TGF-$\beta$ was discernible in bronchial epithelium in eight of ten non-cancerous lung tissues. The expression of TGF-$\beta$ was noted in the cytoplasms of tumor cells in eight cases of forty seven(17.0%) primary lung cancers. The expression of TGF-$\beta$ disclosed in two cases of eleven(18.2%) small cell carcinomas and six cases of thirty six(16.7%) non- small cell carcinomas of the lung. Conclusion: These findings suggest that up-regulation of TGF-$\alpha$ and down-regulation of TGF-$\beta$ are involved during development and growth of primary lung cancers.

This study represented experimental research on the flat plate solar collector. For the flat plate Solar system, it is sensitive of the Global radiation. In Actually, it suppose to be dependent on the direct radiation. Also, the existing method's factors are depend upon Global radiation in the flat plate collector system. therefore it needs which is depend upon direct radiation. In this experiment, the flat plate collector is used for obtaining the method's factors of the direct radiation. As a result, the correct $({\tau}{\alpha})_e$ is found out for practical value.

As a part of series of "Studies on Inorganic Chinese Drugs in Korea" four arsenic mineral Chinese drugs were analyzed by emission spectrographic method, and also were studied crystallographically by X-ray diffraction method. The following results were revealed: 1) Tang-shin-suk was not a Native arsenic but a Arsenolite which containing 94% of $As_{2}O_{3}$, 2) Toh-shin-suk was Crade Aluminum silicate 3) Woong-whang was a Realgar $As_{2}S_{2}$, 4) Yeh-suk was a Ca-Al-Silicate which was mixed with .alpha.-quartz contaminated by Iron compound and trace amount of Arsenic. It was not verified that the presence of Arsenopyrite FeAsS which has been believed as a main component of Yeh-suk by a Japanese author Wakimizu, nor the presence of Arsenolite which was reported by Masutomi.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the correlation among uncertainty, mastery and appraisal of uncertainty in hospitalized children's mothers. Method: Self report questionnaires were used to measure the variables Variables were uncertainty, mastery and appraisal of uncertainty. In data analysis, the SPSSWIN 12.0 program was utilized for descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and regression analysis. Result: Reliability of the instruments was cronbach's $alpha=.84{\sim}.94$. Mastery negatively correlated with uncertainty(r=-.444, p=.000) and danger appraisal of uncertainty(r=-.514, p=.000). In regression of danger appraisal of uncertainty, uncertainty and mastery were significant predictors explaining 39.9%. Conclusion: Mastery was a significant mediating factor between uncertainty and danger appraisal of uncertainty in hospitalized children's mothers. Therefore, nursing interventions which improve mastery must be developed for hospitalized children's mothers.

The multicrystalline machinable ceramics was fabricated by melting method using domestic pyrophyllite. After determination of optimum crystallization temperature and time from results of DTA, XRD and SEM, base glasses were heat treated by 2-step schedule. Main crystalline phases identified by XRD, EDX were Na-fluorophlogopite, ${\beta}$-spoduemen and ${\alpha}$-cordierite, and the crystallization condition of these crystals was varied with chemical composition, thermal history and nucleation agents. The thermal, chemical properties of prepared samples were excellent.

Morphological luminosity parameters$(\mu_e,\;r_e,\;\mu_0,\;\alpha^{-1})$ and D/B were estimated from the decomposition of surface brightness distributions of 28 extra galaxies. Decomposition was made using the standard non-linear least square fitting method and we used the seeing convolved model to get the central brightness of these galaxies. Masses and $M/L_B$ were calculated using rotational velocities of these galaxies from the fitting to the generalized Toomre's mass model.

A mechanism of taurine transfer across the rat small intestine was elucidated by using the in situ recirculation perfusion or loop method. Taurine uptake was saturable, Km= 39.9 mM, and energy dependent, and required sodium. The close structural analogues, aminomethane sulfonic acid, .gamma.-amino-butyric acid, hypotaurine, and .betha.-alanine, reduced significantly taurine uptake when present in 10-fold excess. The .alpha.-amino acid, glycine, did not inhibit uptake. Hence, all of these findings lead to a conclusion that a carrier-mediated transport system for taurine exists in the small intestine.

Objective: Hominis Placenta is used in many cure, mainly treats a weak, chronic disease, especially senile. This research investigates the effect of the Hominis Placenta Herbal-Acupuncture Solution on Alzheimer's disease. Method: The effects of the Hominis Placenta Herbal-Acupuncture Solution on (1) $IL-1{\beta}$ protein, $TNF-{\alpha}$ protein, MDA, and CD68/CD11b (2) the behavior (3) the infarction area of the hippocampus, and brain tissue injury in Alzheimer's diseased mice induced with 13A were investigated. Results: 1. For the Hominis Placenta Herbal-Acupuncture Solution group a significant inhibitory effect on the memory deficit was shown for the mice with Alzheimer's disease induced by ${\beta}$ A in the Morris water maze experiment, which measured stop-through latency, and distance movement-through latency. 2. The Hominis Placenta Herbal-Acupuncture Solution group suppressed the over-expression of $IL-1{\beta}$ protein, $TNF-{\alpha}$ protein, MDA, and CD68/CD11b, in the mice with Alzheimer's disease induced by ${\beta}A$. 3. The Hominis Placenta Herbal Acupuncture Solution group reduced the infarction area of hippocampus, and controlled the injury of brain tissue in the mice with Alzheimer's disease induced by ${\beta}A$. 4. The Hominis Placenta Herbal-Acupuncture Solution group reduced the Tau protein, GFAP protein, and presenilin1/2 protein, beta-secretase protein, (immunohistochemistry) of hippocampus in the mice with Alzheimer's disease induced by ${\beta}A$. Conclusion: These results suggest that the Hominis Placenta Herbal-Acupuncture Solution group may be effective for the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Investigation into the clinical use of the Hominis Placenta Herbal-Acupuncture Solution for Alzheimer's disease is suggested for future research.

In 2009, Zheng and Miao [B. Zheng and S.-X. Miao, Two new modified Gauss-Seidel methods for linear system with M-matrices, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 233 (2009), 922-930] considered the modified Gauss-Seidel method for solving M-matrix linear system with the preconditioner $P_{max}$. In this paper, we consider the modified Gauss-Seidel method for solving the linear system with the generalized preconditioner $P_{max}({\alpha})$, and study its convergent properties when the coefficient matrix is an H-matrix. Numerical experiments are performed with different examples, and the numerical results verify our theoretical analysis.

The biodegradability of some anionic surfactants were investigated using biological oxygen consumption measurement at different temperatures. As test surfactants, soap, alkyl sulfate (AS), alpha olefin sulfonate (AOS), alkyl polyoxyethylene sulfate (AES), linear alkylbezene sulfonate(LAS), microbial surfactants such as sophorose lipid (sopholipid) and spiculisporic acid (S-acid), were used. The test solution were incubated at $5^{\circ}C$, $18^{\circ}C$ and $32^{\circ}C$, respectively. The comparative rates of biodegradation were in accordance with the results obtained from the surface tension measurement and methylene blue method. The results of comparative blodegradabilities of the surfactants were as follows; soap, AS>AES>AOS>LAS at $18^{\circ}C$ and $32^{\circ}C$. However, at$ 5^{\circ}C$, the biodegradation rate of soap was better than other surfactants. Considering the actual environment of the river, it was concluded that the biological oxygen consumption rate method at lower temperature was more practical than the current method such as methylene blue assay with adapted shaking flask culture at $25^{\circ}C$
