Copper-Tin (CuSn) thin films were synthsized by rf magnetron co-sputtering method with pure Cu and Sn metal targets with various rf powers and sputtering times. The obtained CuSn thin films were characterized by a surface profiler (alpha step), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray induced Auger electron spectroscopy (XAES), and contact angle measurement. The deposition rates were calculated by the thickness of CuSn thin films and sputtering times. We observed hexagonal Cu20Sn6 and cubic Cu39Sn11 phases from the films by XRD measurement. From the survey XPS spectra, the Cu and Sn main peaks were observed. Therefore, we could conclude CuSn thin films were successfully fabricated on the substrate in this study. The changes of oxidation states and chemical environment of the films were investigated with high resolution XPS spectra in the regions of Cu 2p, Cu LMM, and Sn 3d. Surface free energy (SFE) and wettability of the CuSn thin films were studied with distilled water (DW) and ethylene glycol (EG) using the contact angle measurement. The total SFE of CuSn thin films decreased as rf power on Cu target increased. The contribution to the total SFE of dispersive SFE was relatively superior to polar SFE.
The crystal structure of the potential active 2-amino-4-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-7, 9-dimethyl-5-oxo-4, 5, 6, 7-tetrahydropyrano [2, 3-d] pyrazolo [3, 4-b] pyridine-3-carbonitrile ($C_{21}H_{22}N_5O_6S$) has been determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. In the title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P-1 with unit cell dimension a=8.1201(9)${\AA}$, b=12.2684(4)${\AA}$ and c=12.387(2)${\AA}$ [${\alpha}=69.573^{\circ}$, ${\beta}=12.168^{\circ}$ and ${\gamma}=76.060^{\circ}$]. In the structure the pyrazole, pyridine and pyran are almost coplanar each other. The crystal packing is stabilized by intermolecular C-H...O and N-H... O hydrogen bond interaction.

CuSn thin films were studied with a surface profiler (alpha step), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray induced Auger electron spectroscopy (XAES), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and contact angle measurement. The thickness of CuSn thin films was fixed at $200{\pm}10nm$ and deposition rate was calculated by the measured with a surface profiler. From the survey XPS spectra, the characteristic peaks of Cu and Sn were observed. Therefore, CuSn thin films were successfully synthesized on the Si (100) substrate. The oxidation state and chemical environment of Cu and Sn were investigated with the binding energy regions of Cu 2p XPS spectra, Sn 3d XPS spectra, and Cu LMM Auger spectra. Change of the crystallinity of the films was observed with XRD spectra. Using contact angle measurement, surface free energy (SFE) and wettability of the CuSn thin films were studied with distilled water (DW) and ethylene glycol (EG).

The solidification sequence and formation of intermetallic phase of Fe-rich Al-Si-Cu alloy were investigated by using real-time imaging of synchrotron X-ray radiation. Effects of cooling rate during uni-directional solidification on the resultant solidification behavior was also studied in a specially constructed vacuum chamber in the SPring-8 facility. The series of radiographic images were complementarily analyzed with conventional analysis of OM and SEM/EDX for phase identification. Detailed solidification sequence and formation mechanisms of various phases were discussed based on real-time image analysis. The growth rates of $\alpha$-AlFeMnSi and ${\beta}-Al_5FeSi$ were measured in order to understand the growth behavior of each phase. It is suggested that real-time imaging technique can be a powerful tool for the precise understanding of solidification behavior of various industrial materials.
In view of the growing medicinal importance of pyrazole and its derivatives, the single crystal X-ray diffraction study was carried out for the potential active 2-Benzyl-3-[3-(4-bromo-phenyl)-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4yl]-4,6-dioxo-5-phenyl-octahydro-pyrrolo[3,4-C]pyrrole-1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester ($C_{37}H_{31}BrN_4O_4$, H2O). In the title compound are two molecules exist in the asymmetric unit. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group $P{\hat{i}}$ with unit cell dimension $a=13.361(18){\AA}$, $b=13.424(17){\AA}$ and $c=21.649(2){\AA}$ [${\alpha}=80.745(9)^{\circ}$, ${\beta}=79.770(10)^{\circ}$ and ${\gamma}=60.788(6)^{\circ}$]. The pyrazole ring adopts planar conformation. The sum of the bond angles at nitrogen atom of the pyrazole ring indicates the $Sp^2$ hybridized state. The crystal structure is stabilized by intramolecular C-H...O hydrogen bond interaction.
HyperGam-U was recently developed to determine uranium enrichment based on ${\gamma}$- and X-ray spectroscopy analysis. The $XK_{\alpha}$ region of the uranium spectrum contains 13 peaks for $^{235}U$ and $^{238}U$ and is used mainly for analysis. To describe the X-ray peaks, a Lorentzian broadened shape function was used, and methods were developed to reduce the number of fitting parameters for decomposing the strongly overlapping peaks using channel-energy, energy-width, and energy-efficiency calibration functions. For validation, eight certified reference material uranium samples covering uranium enrichments from 1% to 99% were measured using a high-resolution planar high-purity germanium detector and analyzed using the HyperGam-U code. When corrections for the attenuation and true coincidence summing were performed for the detection geometry in this experiment, the goodness of fit was improved by a few percent. The enrichment bias in this study did not exceed 2% compared with the certified values for all measured samples.
Quantifying the solute composition of a cloud droplet (or a whole droplet) is an important task for understanding formation processes and heating/cooling rates. In this study, a combination of droplet fixation and SR-XRF microprobe analysis was used to visualize and quantify elements in a micro-scale droplet. In this study, we report the preliminary outcome of this experiment. A spherical micro-scale droplet was successfully solidified through exposure to ${\alpha}$-cyano-acrylate vapor without affecting its size or shape. An X-ray microprobe system equipped at the beam line 37XU of Super Photon ring 8 GeV (SPring-8) was applied to visualize and quantify the elemental composition in an individual micro-scale droplet. It was possible to reconstruct 2D elemental maps for the K and Cl contained in a microdroplet that was dispensed from the 10-ppm KCl standard solution. Multi-elemental peaks corresponding to X-ray energy were also successfully resolved. Further experiments to determine quantitative measures of elemental mass in individual droplets and high-resolution X-ray microtomography (i.e., 3D elemental distribution) are planned for the future.
Solar flares are very spectacular, and are associated with various phenomena. Coronal shocks or disturbances are one of such flare-related phenomena. Although Moreton waves and X-ray waves are well explained with MHD first mode shocks propagating in the corona, there still remains a big problem on the nature of the waves, since they are very rare phenomena. On the other hand, EIT waves (or EUV waves) have been paid attention to as another phenomenon of coronal disturbances. However, the physical features (velocity, opening angle, and so on) are much different from those for Moreton waves and X-ray waves. We report detailed features of the coronal disturbances associated with the 2010 February 7 and the 2010 August 18 flares. For the former flare we analyzed the H-alpha images obtained by SMART at Hida Observatory, Kyoto University, Japan and by a flare telescope at National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, the X-rays images taken by Hinode/XRT, and the EUV images obtained by the both satellites of STEREO, and found the Moreton wave, X-ray wave, and EIT wave, simultaneously. In the latter flare, on the other hand, we observed a very fast EUV wave in EUV images taken by SDO/AIA. The propagating speed is comparable to the MHD first mode wave, while there is no obvious evidence of shocks for this flare. From these results, we discuss the nature of coronal disturbances.
U-235 enrichment has been measured non-destructively by passive gamma-ray pulse height analysis. Measurement source is 185.7 keV gamma-ray which is emitted from uranium sample during alpha decay of U-235 in it. Factors influencing the measurement such as sample composition, attenuation effect of container wall, collimation effect and counting efficiency were evaluated. Under the optimized counting system, the measured relative errors were~8%, ~8% and~1% from Tag values at 95% confidence level for depleted UF$_{6}$ cylinders, depleted UO$_2$powder, and natural UO$_2$powder respectively.

Plasmid Achromobacter secretion (PAS) factor is a putative secretion factor that induces the secretion of periplasmic proteins. PAS factor from Vibrio vulnificus was crystallized at 294 K by the hanging drop vapor-diffusion method. It was isolated as a monomer during the purification procedures. The native crystal belongs to the F222 space group with unit cell parameters a = 56.1, b = 74.4, $c=80.0{\AA}$, ${\alpha}={\beta}={\gamma}=90^{\circ}$. The crystal was soaked in cryoprotectant containing 1 M NaBr for 1 h for MAD phasing. The diffraction limit of the Br-MAD data set was $1.9{\AA}$ using synchrotron X-ray irradiation at beam line BL-18B at the Photon Factory, Japan.
