  • An enzyme derived conformational changes of cobalamine is thought to be important in the homolytic cleavage of Co-C bond which is the first step of catalytic Cl-cycle of coenzyme B12-dependent enzymes. Modern 2D-NMR and NMR-based distance geometric studies were carried out to determine the 3D structure of corrin ring. Homonuclear and heteronuclear correlation NMR experiments were performed for complete 1H-NMR signal assignments. Distances between numerous proton pairs were deduced based on the NOE cross peak intensities and subsequently used as input into the distance geometry program for the 3D structure determination. The detailed 3D structure from the present NMR-based analysis was compared with the result from X-ray crystallographic study, which revealed greater conformational changes occur in benzimidazole group and sugar ring than in macrocyclic corrin and tetrapyrrole. In addition, the distance geometry used in this study was found to be quite useful for NMR-based structure determination of medium-sized molecules that give poor NOE effects arising from their intermediate tumbling rate ($\omega$$\tau$c 1.0).

  • The performance of pure friction isolation system with respect to the frequency bandwidth of excitation and the predominant frequency is investigated. A set of earthquake ground motions (artificial as well as recorded [with different combinations of magnitude-distance and local site geology]) is considered for investigating effectiveness of pure friction isolators. The results indicate the performance of pure friction base isolated system does not only depend upon coefficient of friction and mass ratio but the stick-slip behaviour depends upon the frequency content of the excitation as well. Slippage prevails if the excitation frequency lies in a suitable frequency range. This range widens with increasing mass ratio. For larger mass ratios, the sliding effect is more pronounced and the maximum acceleration response is further reduced in the neighbourhood of frequency ratio (${\omega}/{\omega}_n$) of unity. The pure friction isolation system is effective in the case of broadband excitations only and that too, in the acceleration sensitive range of periods. The pure friction system is not effective for protection against narrow band motions for which the system response is quasi-periodic.

  • In this paper, a folded label type RFID tag antenna is designed and produecd for metellic environment over UHF band. Since performance of regular label type RFID tag is seriously degraded for the metallic environment, a folded label tag is proposed to improve the performance. The proposed tag is operating at 910MHz by using inductive T Matching Feed and simulated in HFSS by Ansoft. The actual size is $65{\times}23{\times}3(mm)$ with the impedance of $52-j158{\Omega}$. The maximum distance of identification for the proposed tag is measured as 5.5 meters.

  • Quasars are among the farthest and brightest objects known in the universe. Because quasars are mostly observed in the redshift range between 1 and 3, they can be used to study large scale structure in the universe, and its evolution over the past billion years. An important issue is the evolution of the quasar luminosity function, which has been investigated for relative small samples of the 2QZ catalog. Here we extend the study to 3 quasar samples, the most recent data of the Milliquas, Master and 2QZ quasar catalogs to determine the luminosity function of quasars and its evolution, using the Standard cosmological ${\Lambda}CDM$ model with ${\Omega}_{\Lambda}=0.73$, ${\Omega}_M=0.27$, and $H_0=70kms^{-1}Mpc^{-1}$. For the purpose of this analysis we initially used 0.25-mag bins and approximately 0.180-redshift bins, then calculated the comoving distance and comoving volume for each bin of redshift and calculated the number of objects in each bin per unit volume, in order to find the number density per absolute magnitude bin. Our analysis on the basis of these new and much more complete datasets is largely in agreement with earlier studies of the luminosity evolution of quasars.

  • In this paper, we analysed the flame patterns and the electrical characteristics of the electric outlet which was fired at standby mode. The carbonized patterns indicated that the flame had spread about 50 cm to 70 cm. After the combustibles on wall started to burn, the temperature went up to about $300^{\circ}c$ in 150 sec. The flame formed ceiling jet and spread quickly. The tracking was generated at the shortest distance between two electrodes and the resistance was about 100$\Omega$ to 300$\Omega$ As the result of analysis using metallurgical microscope, the normal part of a blade holder showed amorphous structure, but the melted part of a blade holder damaged by tracking showed dendrite structure and void evenly. When the blade holder of damaged outlet was analyzed by SEM and EDX, we found that the structure and components of the normal part were different from those of melted part.

  • Recently shield TBM tunnellings are being applied to subway construction in Korean cities. Generally these kinds of tunnellings have the problems in the stability of ground such as subsidence because urban subway is constructed in the shallow depth. A sinkhole occurred on the road just above the tunnel during tunneling in Kwangju, so a survey for upper layer of the tunnel was needed. But conventional Ground Probing Radar can't be applicable due to the presence of steel-mesh screen in the shield segment, so no existent geophysical method is applicable in this site. Because the outer surface of each shield segment is electrically insulated, dipole-dipole resistivity method which is popular in engineering site investigation, was tried to this survey for the first time. Specially manufactured flexible ring-type electrodes were installed into the grouting holes at an interval of 2.4 m on the ceiling. The K-Ohm II system which has been developed by KIGAM and tested successfully in many sites, was used in this site. The system consists of 1000Volt-1Ampere constant-current transmitter, optically isolated 24 bit sigma-delta A/D conversion receiver - maximum 12 channel simultaneous measurements, and graphical automatic acquisition software for easy data quality check in real time. Borehole camera logging with circular white LED lighting was also done to investigate the state of the layer. Measured resistivity data lack of some stations due to failing opening lids of holes, shows general high-low trend well. The dipole-dipole resistivity inversion results discriminate (1) one approximately 4 meter diameter cavity (grouted but incompletely hardened, so low resistivity - less than $30{\Omega}m$), (2) weak zone (100-200${\Omega}m$), and (3) hard zone (high resistivity - more than 1000${\Omega}m$) very well for the distance of 320 meters. The 2-D inversion neglects slight absolute 3-D effect, but we can get satisfactory and useful information. Acquired resistivity section and video tapes by borehole camera logging will be reserved and reused if some problem occurs in this site in the future.

  • Structural features and electrochemical performances of cokes pyrolized from oxidized cokes were examined, and compared with KOH-activated coke. Needle cokes ($d_{002}=3.5{\AA} $), having a graphene layer structure, were changed to a single phase of graphite oxide after oxidation treatment with an acidic solution having an $NaCLO_3$/needle coke composition ratio of above 7.5, and the inter-layer distance of the oxidized coke was expanded to $6.9{\AA} $ with increasing oxygen content. After heating at $200^{\circ}C$, the oxidized coke was pyrolized to the graphene layer structure with inter-layer distance of $3.6{\AA} $. However, the change of the inter-layer distance of the needle coke was not observed in the KOH activation process. On the other hand, an intercalation of electrolyte ions into the pyrolized coke, observed at first charge, occurred at 1.0 V, in which the value was lower than that of KOH-activation coke. The cell capacitor using pyrolized coke exhibited a lower internal resistance of $0.57{\Omega}$ in 1 kHz, and a larger capacitance per weight and volume of 30.3 F/g and 26.9 F/ml at the two-electrode system in the potential range 0~2.5 V than those of the cell capacitor using KOH-activation of coke. This better electrochemical performance may be associated with structure defects in the graphene layer derived from the process of the inter-layer expansion and shrinkage.

  • The new empirical static model was constructed on the basis of dimension analysis to predict the pressure drop according to the operating conditions. The empirical static model consists of the initial pressure drop term (${\Delta}P_{initial}$) and the dust mass number term($N_{dust}=\frac{{\omega}_0{\nu}_f}{P_{pulse}t}$), and two parameters (dust deposit resistance and exponent of dust mass number) have been estimated from experimental data. The optimum injection distance was identified in the 64 experimental data at the fixed filtration velocity and pulse pressure. The dust deposit resistance ($K_d$), one of the empirical static model parameters got the minimum value at d=0.11m, at which the total pressure drop was minimized. The exponent of dust mass number was interpreted as the elasticity of pressure drop to the dust mass number. The elasticity of the unimodal behavior had also a maximum value at d=0.11m, at which the pressure drop increased most rapidly with the dust mass number. Additionally, the correlation coefficient for the new empirical static model was 0.914.

  • When the clamp meter approaches the electric path where current is flowing, leakage current can be measured at a distance from the electric current because the induced current increases as the magnitude of the current increases and approaches nearer to the electric path. Therefore, measurements were carried out from a distance to avoid this effect. In addition, the measured values differ depending on the location of the power line that penetrates the ZCT of the clamp meter, thus measurements were performed at a location where this effect was minimized. The fraction of compliant branch circuits, whose leakage current was lower than 1.00 mA, was found to be 69.0% out of the total of 439 branch circuits, while the percentage of compliant branch circuits having an insulation resistance higher than $0.20M{\Omega}$ was found to be 93.2%. The reason why the percentage of compliant branch circuits with low leakage current was low might be due to the inclusion of capacitive leakage current in the total measured leakage current.

  • A study on the characteristics of electric shock in fresh water due to the leakage of submerged electric facility is conducted by using a reduced scale model at a scale of 1:10 in laboratory. Electric potential as a function of distance from leakage source, type of the leakage source, magnitude of the source voltage, submerged depth and diameter of a copper rod electrode is measured. On the basis of safety standard, separation for guarantee of safety is determined by the measured potential. Also supposing that body resistance is 500[$\Omega$], the human reaction was estimated by calculating body current for some shock duration. Thus, in this paper, the hazard of the electric shock is assessed by introducing representative safety factors, body voltage and body current due to leakage source.
