Ethyl Silicate를 이용한 고순도 $\beta$-SiC 미분말 합성에 관한 연구(III) 첨가제의 영향 (A Study on Synthesis of High Purity $\beta$-SiC Fine Powders from Ethyl Silicate(III) Effect of Additives)

  • The particle size of synthesized SiC powders was decreased with increasing carbon content when the mixture of carbon and silica was carbonized at 1, 45$0^{\circ}C$ after hydrolysis of the mixture with the ranges of 3.1 to 3.5 in the mole ratio of Carbon/Alkoxide. The reacted fraction of $\beta$-SiC nearly had nothing to do with the mole ratio of Carbon/Alkoxide. When the reaction was made by adding 0.5wt% additives in the composition of 3.1 in the mole ratio of carbon/alkoxide, the additives decreased the yield of $\beta$-SiC and its sequence was Ba2O3>B>Fe>Al>Al2O3>Si. The effect of additives promoted the transformation of $\beta$-SiC to $\alpha$-SiC form and shwoed the increasing tendency of lattice constant. The two colors of $\beta$-SiC powder came out : one was the black grey with addition of Al, Al2O3 and B the other the light grey with addition of Fe, B2O3 and Si.

불순 Fe를 함유한 A356 주조합금에서 미세조직 형성에 관한 Mn과 Cr의 효과 (The Effects of Mn and Cr Additions on the Microstructure of A356 Alloys Containing Impure Fe)

  • The effects of Mn and Cr on the crystallization behaviors of Fe-bearing intennetallics in A356 alloy were studied. Coarse and acicular ${\beta}-Al_{5}$FeSi phase in A356-0.20wt.%Fe alloy was modified into small ${\alpha}$-Al(Fe,Mn)Si and ${\alpha}$-Al(Fe,Cr)Si phases in response to Mn and Cr addition, respectively. Increasing of Mn addition amount elevates the crystallizing temperature of ${\alpha}$-Al(Fe,Mn)Si and the Mn/Fe ratio in the ${\alpha}$-Al(Fe,Mn)Si. Cr is more effective to modify ${\beta}-Al_{5}$FeSi in comparison with Mn. ${\alpha}$-Al(Fe,Mn)Si phase had BCC/SC dual structure.

고신율 금형주조용 Al-9wt%Si-Mg계 합금의 주조특성에 미치는 Fe, Mn함량의 영향 (Effect of Fe, Mn Content on the Castability in Al-9wt%Si-Mg System Alloys for High Elongation)

  • Effect of Fe and Mn contents on the castability of Al-9wt%Si-xMg-yFe-zMn alloy has been studied. The alloy was composed of ${\alpha}$-Al phase, Al+eutectic Si phase, ${\beta}$-Al5FeSi compound and chinese script ${\alpha}$-$Al_{15}(Mn,Fe)_3Si_2$ compound. ${\beta}$-$Al_5FeSi$ and ${\alpha}$-$Al_{15}(Mn,Fe)_3Si_2$ compounds assumed to effect the fluidity and shrinkage behaviors of the alloy during solidification due to the crystallization of ${\alpha}$-$Al_{15}(Fe,Mn)_3Si_2$ and ${\beta}$-$Al_5FeSi$ compounds above eutectic temperature. As Fe and Mn contents of Al-9wt%Si-0.3wt%Mg system alloy increased from 0.15wt% to 0.6wt% and from 0.3wt% to 0.7wt%, fluidity of the alloy decreased by 5.7% and 3.3%, respectively. And as Mg content of Al-9wt%Si-0.45wt%Fe-0.5wt%Mn system alloy increased from 0.3wt% to 0.4wt%, fluidity of the alloy decreased by 8.6%. When Fe content of the alloy increased from 0.15wt% to 0.6wt%, macro shrinkage ratio decreased from 6.1% to 4.1%, and micro shrinkage ratio increased from 0.04% to 0.24%. Similarly, Mn content of the alloy increased from 0.3wt% to 0.7wt%, macro shrinkage ratio decreased from 6.0% to 4.5% and micro shrinkage ratio increased from 0.12% to 0.18%. Judging from the castability of the alloy, Al-9wt%Si-0.3wt%Mg alloy with low content of Fe and Mn, 0.1wt% Fe and 0.3wt% Mn, is recommendable.

  • $Eu^{2+}$-doped $\beta$-SiAlONs ($Si_{6-z}Al_zO_zN_{8-z}:Eu_y$) are recognized as promising phosphor materials to build an white LED for lighting application due to its excellent absorption/emission efficiency in the long wave length region. In this research, the fabrication of $\beta$-SiAlON:Eu plate phosphor by sintering was investigated with fixed Eu content(y) and varied composition of the host lattice(z). The addition of the activator $Eu_2O_3$ lead to enhanced densification by forming the transient liquid phase. The refinement of a composition by the calculated lattice parameter indicated that the measured composition of the fabricated specimens is nearly same to that of designed one. The single phase $\beta$-SiAlON:Eu plate with relative density of 96.4% was achieved by addition of 2 wt% CaO, which implies the possibility of full densification by adjusting the processing variables.

Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of β-SiAlON Ceramics Fabricated Using Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesized β-SiAlON Powder

  • ${\beta}-SiAlON$, based on its high fracture toughness, good strength and low abrasion resistance, has been adopted in several industrial fields such as bearings, turbine blades and non-ferrous metal refractories. In general, ${\beta}-SiAlON$ is fabricated by reactive sintering using expensive $Si_3N_4$ and AlN as starting materials. On the other hand, in this study, a cheaper ${\beta}-SiAlON$ starting powder synthesized by SHS was employed to improve price competitiveness compared to that of the reactive sintering process. ${\beta}-SiAlON$ ceramics with various content of the sintering additive $Y_2O_3$ up to 7 wt% were fabricated by conventional pressureless sintering at $1800^{\circ}C$ for 2 to 8 h under $N_2$ pressure of 0.1 MPa. The specimen with 3 wt% $Y_2O_3$ exhibited the best mechanical properties: hardness of 14 GPa, biaxial strength of 830 MPa, fracture toughness of $5MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ and wear rate of about $3{\times}10^{-6}mm^3/N{\cdot}m$.

무가압소결한 $\beta$-SiC-$ZrB_2$계 도전성 복합체의 제조 및 기계적, 전기적 특성 (Mechanical, Electrical Properties and Manufacture of the $\beta$-SiC-$ZrB_2$ Electroconductive Ceramic Composites by Pressureless Sintering)

  • The effect of $Al_2O_3$ additives to $\beta-SiC+39vol.%ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites by pressureless sintering on microstructural, mechanical and electrical properties were investigated. The $\beta-SiC+39vol.%ZrB_2$ ceramic composites were pressureless sintered by adding 4, 8, 12wt.% $Al_2O_3$ powder as a liquid forming additives at $1950^{\cire}C$ for 1h. Phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed mostly of $\alpha-SiC(6H), ZrB_2$ and weakly $\alpha-SiC(4H), \beta-SiC (15R)$ phase. The relative density of composites was lowered by gaseous products of the result of reaction between \beta-SiC and Al_2O_3$, therefore, porosity was increased with increasing $Al_2O_3$ contents, and showed the maximum value of 1.4197MPa.$m^{1/2}$ for composite with 4wt.% $Al_2O_3$ additives. The electrical resistivity of $\beta-SiC+39vol.%ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composite was increased with increasing $Al_2O_3$ contents, and showed positive temperature coefficient resistance (PTCR) in the temperature range of $25^{\cire}C$ to $700^{\cire}C$.

Mg-Al-Si 합금에서 진동감쇠능의 변형진폭 의존성 (Strain Amplitude Dependence of Damping Capacity in Mg-AI-Si Alloy)

  • Change in damping capacity with strain amplitude was studied in Mg-Al-Si alloy in as-cast, solution-treated and aged states, respectively. The as-cast microstructure of the alloy is characterized by eutectic ${\beta}$($Mg_{17}Al_{12}$) phase and Chinese script type $Mg_2Si$ particles. The solution treatment dissolved the ${\beta}$ phase into the matrix, while the aging treatment resulted in the distribution of continuous and discontinuous type ${\beta}$ precipitates. The solution-treated microstructure showed better damping capacity than as-cast and aged microstructures both in strain-dependent and strain-independent damping regions. The decrease in second-phase particles which weakens the strong pinning points on dislocations and distribution of solute atoms in the matrix, would be responsible for the enhanced damping capacity after solution treatment.

금속 산화물이 도자기 소지중 SiO$_2$상 생성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of metal oxides on the types of SiO$_2$ Phase of vitreous porcelain body)

  • 자기질 도자기 소지조성에 필수적으로 함유되는 부산화물들($K_2O, MgO, CaO,Al_2O_3$, 그리고 $TiO_2$)이 순수한 $SiO_2$의 상형태에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 또한 장석, 도석, 카올린, 그리고 점토를 이용하여 조합된 자기질 도자기 소지 조성에서 $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$의 비를 조정하여 안정화된 $\beta$-cristobalite 상을 갖는 도자기 소지 조성을 개발하였으며, 여기에 첨가된 부산화물들이 $SiO_2$의 상형태에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. $SiO_2$$K_2$O와 MgO를 첨가할 경우 준안정한 주상은 $\alpha$-cristobalite, CaO와 $Al_2$O$_3$를 첨가할 경우 $\alpha$-quartz, 그리고 $TiO_2$를 첨가할 경우는 비정질상이었다. 장석, 도석, 카올린, 그리고 점토를 사용하여 조합한 도자기 소지에서 $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$비가 작아질 수록 $\beta$-cristobalite 상의 안정화가 촉진되었으며, $\beta$-cristobalite 상이 안정화되는 임계의 $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$의 비는 68.10/22.75이었다. Cristobalite 상이 안정화된 실용 도자기 조성에 부산화물들이 첨가될 경우 $\alpha$, $\beta$-cristobalite 상생성이 억제되었다.

  • 하동고령토($Al_2O_3-SiC-C$)를 출발원료로하여 AlSiCa내화재 원료를 합성하였다. 하동고령토와 탄소분말을 혼합하여 수소분위기하에서 반응시킨결과, $1300^{\circ}C$에서$Al_2O_3-SiC-C$ 복합체가 힙성되기 시작하여$1400^{\circ}C$에서 완전 합성되었고, $SiO_2$에 대한 최적carbon량은 mole비로 1:4이었다. 합성시 알루미나 용기에 탄소분말을 충전시키지 않을 때는 미합성부분이 없이 밝은 녹색을 띈 $\beta$-SiC(cubic form) 를 형성함을 확인하였다.

Si3N4-Y2O3-Al2O3계의 입계상 결정화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Crystallization of Grain-Boundary Phases in Si3N4-Y2O3-Al2O3 System)

  • After sintering Si3N4 containing 20wt% of variable composition ratio of Y2O3 and Al2O3 at 1$600^{\circ}C$, the specimens were annealed at 125$0^{\circ}C$ and 135$0^{\circ}C$ for 5, 10, 15 hours in order to crystallize the remanining oxynitride glass phases. The main grain-boundary crystalline phases in the Si3N4-Y2O3-Al2O3 system were melilite and YAG. By annealing 15hrs. at 125$0^{\circ}C$, almost all of the glasses were crystallized. During the growth of melilite, lattice volyume of $\beta$-Si3N4 was increased as Al3+ and O2- ions in the oxynitride glass diffuse into $\beta$-Si3N4 lattice, but during the growth of YAG, lattice volume of $\beta$-Si3N4 was decreased by reverse diffusion of Al3+ and O2- ions. In case of crystallization of glass phase to melilite, thermal expansion of sample was decreased, but in case of crystallization to YAG, inverse phenomen on was observed.
