Effect of Additives of Sintering and Mechanical Properties of $Si_3 N_4$ Bonded SiC ($Si_3 N_4$ 결합 SiC의 소결과 기계적 특성에 미치는 첨가제의 영향)

  • In this study, SiC powder and Si powder were used as the raw materials. Mixture was prepared with addition of Al2O3 and Fe2O3 at 0.1~0.5wt% respectively. After this step, the mixture was pressed and nitrided for 30 hrs at 140$0^{\circ}C$ under NH3-N2 atmosphere. Mechanical properties of sintered specimens were investigated from measurement of porosity, bulk density and three point bending test. nitration reaction extent was observed at the change of mass before and after reaction, and the microstructure and the change of $\alpha$-Si3N4 and $\beta$-Si3N4 were observed by XRD and SEM. In the current work, the results are as follows 1. When Fe2O3 added, the nitridation increased with the content of Fe2O3, and the bending strength was increased from 0.1 wt% to 0.3 wt%, and decreased to 0.5 wt%. 2. When Al2O3 added, the nitridation and the bending strength increased little by little with the content of Al2O3 3. The bending strength of the specimen added with Fe2O3 were higher than that with Al2O3. Because the specimens contained Fe2O3 had much more the whisker type crystal of Si3N4 contributing to strength than contained Al2O3.

Effect of Fe Ion-Exchanged BEA Zeolite Catalysts on N2O Decomposition Reaction Following Heat-treatment Temperatures (Fe 이온이 담지된 BEA 제올라이트 촉매의 열처리 온도에 따른 N2O 분해반응에 대한 영향)

  • The effect of heat-treatment temperature on the activity of catalysts was studied by investigating $N_2O$ decomposition reaction in Fe ion-supported BEA Zeolite. As a result of $N_2O$ decomposition reaction experiment, $N_2O$ decomposition activity significantly decreased as heat-treatment temperature of Fe/BEA catalyst increased. the shape and size of the particles of Fe/BEA catalyst following the rise of heat-treatment temperature did not display a significant change. But following the rise of the heat-treatment temperature, its surface area was significantly reduced. Also it was confirmed that as the heat-treatment temperature rose, the crystallization of ${\beta}$ structure was greatly reduced. And as heat-treatment temperature rose, while SiO structure either increased or did not exhibit much change, the structure of Fe bonded with lattice structure was speculated to decrease. From the stated results, it was concluded that the increase of heat-treatment temperature became the cause of the declined activity of catalysts by destruction of its ${\beta}$ structure of bonding aluminium and Fe atoms.

  • Mn((Cu0.66AI0.34)1-x(Bi0.3Sb0.7)x) 및 Mn((Fe0.66AI0.34)1-x(Bi0.3Sb0.7)x) 합금계의 상의 변화와 자기적 특성을 조사하였다. Mn((Cu, SI)(Bi, Sb)) 합금계는 Bi상, MnSb상, MnBi상, k-상, Heuser상, Mn2Sb 및 $\beta$-Mn상의 혼합상으로 이루어졌으며 x가 증가함에 따라 Bi상과 Mn2Sb상이 증가하고 K-상, Heusler상 및 $\beta$-Mn상이 줄어들거나 사라졌다. 자기적 성질은 자성을 띄는 MnSb상, MnBi상, Mn2Sb상, k-상 및 Hseusler상과 비자성인 Bi상과 $\beta$-Mn상의 상대적 분율에 의해 결정됨을 알 수 있었고, 150K-200K 부근에서 그 이하로 온도가 감소함에 따라 자화값이 급격히 감소하는 현상이 나타났다. Mn((Fe, AI)(Bi, Sb))합금계는 Bi상, MnSb상, MnBi상, MnBi상,$\beta$-Mn상, k-상 및 Mn2Sb상의 혼합상으로 나타났으며, 자기적 성질은 조사한 전 조성에서 강자성을 띄고 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Microstructure and Wear Properties of High Strength Yellow Brass by Addition of Fe, Cr, Mn, Si and Ni (Fe, Cr, Mn, Si, Ni의 첨가에 의한 고력황동의 미세조직과 마모특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to improve hardness and wear resistance of high strength yellow brass by adding Fe, Cr, Mn, Si and Ni. Results showed that NiO, $FeCr_2O_4$ and intermetallic compound $Mn_5Si_3$ were produced when Ni, Fe-Cr and Mn-Si were added to the yellow brass. The hardness and wear tests showed the best results with the presence of the product precipitates and intermetallic compound. The calculation of relative wear resistance by volume fraction of each phases showed that the relative wear resistance of $Mn_5Si_3$ had the highest value, that of ${\beta}$ phase had the lowest. Observation of the worn surface showed that the main wear mechanism were found to be the abrasive wear, and also showed that the wear is caused by mechanical failure at the early stage.

Characterization of Cation Exchange and Cesium Selectivity of Synthetic Beta-Dicalcium Silicate Hydrate

  • Solid beta-dicalcium silicate hydrate $(\beta-C_2SH)$ synthesized under hydrothermal conditions at $240^{\circ}C$ and Ca/Si=2 molar ratio shows cation exchange properties towards divalent metal cations such as Fe, Cu, Zn, Cd, or Pb. The ability of metal cation uptake by the solid was found to be in the order: $Fe^{2+}$$Cu^{2+}$$Zn^{2+}$$Cd^{2+}$ = $Pb^{2+}$. Cesium selectivity of the solid was demonstrated in the presence of univalent cation such as $Li^+$, $Na^+$ and $K^+$ and divalent cations such as $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$ and $Ba^{2+}$, which are one hundred times more concentrated than the $Cs^+$. The uptake of $Cs^+$ is maximum in the presence of $Mg^{2+}$ whereas it is minimum in the presence of $K^+$. The different affinities of ${\beta}-C_2SH$ towards divalent metal cations can be used for the separation of those ions. Due to its selectivity for cesium it can be used in partitioning of radioactive Cs+ from nuclear wastes containing numerous cations. The mechanism of the metal cation exchange and cesium selectivity reactions by the solid is studied.

The Growth Characteristics of ${\beta}\;-FeSi_2$ as IR-sensor Device for Detecting Pollution Material : The Usage of the Ferrocene-Plasma

  • As IR-sensor for detecting pollution material, the iron silicide has a fit band gap, high physicochemical stability at high temperature and good acid resistance. The growing film was formed with the Fe-Si bond and the organic compound because plasma resolved the injected precursors into various active species. In the Raman scattering spectrum, the Fe-Si vibration mode showed at 250 {TEX}$cm^{-1}${/TEX}. The FT-IR peak indicated that the various organic compounds were deposited on the films. The iron silicide was epitaxially grown to β-phase by the high energy of plasma. The lattice structure of films had [220]/[202] and [115]. The thickness of the films increased with the flow rate of silane. But rf-power increased with decreasing the thickness. The optical gap energy and the band gap were shown about 3.8 eV and 1.182∼1.194 eV. The band gap linearly increased and the formula was below: {TEX}$E_g^{dir}${/TEX}= 8.611×{TEX}$10^{-3}N_{D}${/TEX}+1.1775

Effects of Mg and Si on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Al-Mg Die Casting Alloy (Al-Mg 계 다이캐스팅 합금의 미세조직 및 기계적 성질에 미치는 Mg 및 Si의 영향)

  • The effects of Mg and Si contents on the microstructure and mechanical properties in Al-Mg alloy (ALDC6) were investigated. The results showed that phase fraction and size of $Mg_2Si$ and $Al_{15}(Fe,Mn)_3Si_2$ phase in the microstructure of Al-Mg alloy were increased as the Mg and Si contents were raised from 2.5 to 3.5 wt%. With Si content of 1.5 wt%, freezing range of the alloy was significantly reduced and solidification became more complex during the final stage of solidification. While there was no significant influence of Mg contents on mechanical properties, Si contents up to 1.5 wt%, strongly affected the mechanical properties. Especially elongation was reduced by about a half with more than 1.0 wt%Si in the alloy. The bending and impact strength were decreased with increased amount of Si in the alloy, as well. The lowered mechanical properties are because of the growth of particle shaped coarse $Mg_2Si$ phase and precipitation of the needle like $\beta$-AlFeSi in the microstructure at the last region to solidify due to presence of excess amount of Si in the alloy.

  • Epoxy matrix based composites were fabricated by adding SiC nano fillers. The interfacial properties of composites were varied with different shapes of SiC nano fillers. To investigate the shape effects on the interfacial properties, beta and whisker type SiC nano fillers were used for this evaluation. The dispersion states of nano SiC-epoxy nanocomposites were evaluated by capacitance measurements. FE-SEM was used to observe the fracture surface of different structures of SiC-epoxy nanocomposites and to investigate for reinforcement effect. Interfacial properties between carbon fiber and SiC-epoxy nanocomposites were also evaluated by ILSS (interlaminar shear strength) and IFSS (interfacial shear strength) tests. The interfacial adhesion of beta type nanocomposites was better than whisker type.

Characterization of Precipitates in New Zr base Alloys for Fuel Cladding (핵연료 피복관용 Zr신합금의 석출물 특성)

  • 여러 가지 Zr합금에서 생성되는 석출물의 특성을 규명하기 위하여 시편을 $600^{\circ}C$에서 1시간 동안 열처리 한후 EDX가 부착된 TEM을 이용하여 석출물에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. Zr1.4Sn0.2Fe0.1Cr 합금에서는 두 종류의 석출물이 생성되는데 하나는 석출물의 대부분을 차지하는 HCP 구조으 Zr(Cr, Fe)2 석출물로서 이는 둥근 형태를 유지하며 결정립내나 결정립계에 관계없이 널리 분산되어 분포된다. 다른 하나의 석출물은 극히 일부에서만 관찰되는 Zr2(Fe, Si)성분의 석출물로서 이는 tetragonal 구조를 갖는다. Zr0.5Nb0.6Fe0.3V 합금에서는 tetragonal (Zr, Nb)2(Fe, V) 석출물이 형성되며, Nb이 1.0 wt.% 첨가된 Zr1.0Nb0.6Fe0.3V 합금에서는 HCP 구조의 (Zr, Nb)(Fe, V)2 석출물과 BCC 구조인 $\beta$-Zr이 생성된다. Zr1.0Nb0.6Fe0.3V합금을 제외하고는 대부분의 합금에서 석출물은 약 1.0$\mu\textrm{m}$의 크기를 나타냈다. 합금 조성이 다를 경우에 석출물 크기와 35$0^{\circ}C$ 부식 특성과는 부식 특성과는 연관성이 없는 것로 나타났다.
