Essential Oil Analysis of Illicium anistum L. Extracts

  • Fresh japanese anise (Illicium anisatum L.) tree leaves were collected and ground after drying. The essential oils of the leaves were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) using headspace (HS) and solid phase-microextra (SPME) methods. Volatile components of the leaves were identified 21 and 65 components in HS and SPME, respectively. The main components of the essential oils obtained by HS method were eucalyptol (36.7%), (+)-sabinene (15.61%), ${\delta}$-3-carene (6.87%), ${\alpha}$-pinene (6.07%), ${\gamma}$-terpinen (5.72%), ${\alpha}$-limonene (5.26%), ${\beta}$-myrcene (4.13%), ${\alpha}$-terpinene (4.04%) and ${\beta}$-pinene (3.73%). The other components were less than 3.5%. SPME method also showed that eucalyptol (17.88%) was main. The other were 5-allyl-1-methoxy-2 (13.29%), caryophyllene (6.09%), (+)-sabinene (5.60%), ${\alpha}$-ocimene (4.89%) and ${\beta}$-myrcene (3.73%), and the rest were less amounts than 3.5%. This work indicated that many more volatile components were isolated, comparing to the previous literature data and that SPME method was much more effective than HS method in the analysis of the volatile components.

고압 하에서 TiO2 복합체의 거동에 대한 연구 (A High Pressure Behavior Study of TiO2-complex)

  • 자외선 차단기능과 제균 기능을 갖는 합성 $TiO_2$-복합체에 대해 압력의 영향을 체크하기 위해 고압실험을 시행하였다. 복합체 분말시료는 아나타제와 루틸 및 염화은으로 구성되어 있으며, 입자크기는 34 nm 정도로 결정되었다. 아나타제와 루틸 모두 약 14~16 GPa 구간에서 $ZrO_2$ (배델레이트)-형태의 결정구조로 상변이하며, 본 실험의 최고압력인 22.7 GPa까지 상변이는 계속된다. 압력을 모두 제거하여 상압 상태가 되면, 루틸은 ${\alpha}-PbO_2$ 구조로 상변이하며 아나타제는 고압의 $ZrO_2$-결정구조가 유지되는 것으로 판단된다. 염화은의 회절피크는 낮은 압력에서 사라지는 것이 관찰되었다.

α-Tocopherol을 함유한 Nanostructured Lipid Carriers의 특성과 안정화 효과 (Characteristics of α-Tocopherol-loaded Nanostructured Lipid Carriers and their Stabilization Effect)

  • 지용성 토코페롤(${\alpha}$-tocopherol)의 산화 안정성을 높이기 위하여 nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC)에 봉입을 시도하였다. 먼저 구성 성분과 혼합 비율을 달리한 여러 NLC를 만들고 각각의 특성을 살펴보았다. 고체 지질로 세틸 팔미테이트 또는 글리세릴 모노스테아레이트를 사용했을 때는 안정한 상태의 NLC 입자가 만들어지지만 스테아린 산으로 만든 NLC에서는 상분리가 일어났다. NLC 입자는 수백 나노미터 크기로 만들어지는데 지질대비 용매의 비율이 높을수록 입자크기가 작게 나타났다. 고급 지방알콜인 옥틸도데칸올을 고체 지질에 첨가하면 결정화도가 감소하면서 지질 매트릭스의 배열규칙성 이 약해짐을 DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) 열차트와 anisotropy 측정을 통해서 확인하였다. 고온($45^{\circ}C$) 또는 UV 빛이 조사되는 조건에서 토코페롤이 NLC에 봉입되어 있으면 용액이나 에멀젼 상태로 있는 것에 비해 산화 안정성이 크게 향상됨을 DPPH 테스트와 과산화물가 측정으로 확인하였다.

인간 유래 폐 세포주별 담배연기 분획의 염증 반응 민감도 비교 (Comparison of the Sensitivity of Human Bronchial Epithelial Cells to Cigarette Smoke-induced Inflammatory Responses)

  • The aim of this study is to compare the sensitivity of both two NCI-H292 and A549 cell types to acute inflammatory responses induced by cigarette smoke. For this, we treated two kinds of smoke fractions derived from 2R4F reference cigarettes: total particulate matter(TPM) collected onto a Cambridge filter pad and gas/vapor phase(GVP) prepared by bubbling through in buffer solution. When we measured cellular cytotoxicity by neutral red uptake assay after treatment for 24 hours, TPM and GVP induced cytotoxic effect in a dose-dependent manner in the range of 10-$100{\mu}g$/mL and 60-$300 {\mu}g$/mL., respectively, in both cell types without any cellular difference. Additionally, when we examined acute inflammatory responses by analyzing cytokines secreted into culture media including tumor necrosis factor-$\alpha$ (TNF-$\alpha$), interleukin-8(IL-8), and transforming growth factor-$\alpha$(TGF-$\alpha$) as well as matrix metalloproteinase-1(MMP-1), the treatment with smoke fractions increased those marker proteins in a dose-dependent manner in NCI-H292. Meanwhile, in A549 cells only MMP-1 was observed to be increased in a dose-dependent fashion. Collectively, our data indicate that NCI-H292 cell type is more sensitive to cigarette smoke-induced inflammatory response than A549 cells. This suggests that NCI-H292 could be useful as an in vitro evaluation tool to assess harmful effects of cigarette smoke.

고신율 금형주조용 Al-9wt%Si-Mg계 합금의 주조특성에 미치는 Fe, Mn함량의 영향 (Effect of Fe, Mn Content on the Castability in Al-9wt%Si-Mg System Alloys for High Elongation)

  • Effect of Fe and Mn contents on the castability of Al-9wt%Si-xMg-yFe-zMn alloy has been studied. The alloy was composed of ${\alpha}$-Al phase, Al+eutectic Si phase, ${\beta}$-Al5FeSi compound and chinese script ${\alpha}$-$Al_{15}(Mn,Fe)_3Si_2$ compound. ${\beta}$-$Al_5FeSi$ and ${\alpha}$-$Al_{15}(Mn,Fe)_3Si_2$ compounds assumed to effect the fluidity and shrinkage behaviors of the alloy during solidification due to the crystallization of ${\alpha}$-$Al_{15}(Fe,Mn)_3Si_2$ and ${\beta}$-$Al_5FeSi$ compounds above eutectic temperature. As Fe and Mn contents of Al-9wt%Si-0.3wt%Mg system alloy increased from 0.15wt% to 0.6wt% and from 0.3wt% to 0.7wt%, fluidity of the alloy decreased by 5.7% and 3.3%, respectively. And as Mg content of Al-9wt%Si-0.45wt%Fe-0.5wt%Mn system alloy increased from 0.3wt% to 0.4wt%, fluidity of the alloy decreased by 8.6%. When Fe content of the alloy increased from 0.15wt% to 0.6wt%, macro shrinkage ratio decreased from 6.1% to 4.1%, and micro shrinkage ratio increased from 0.04% to 0.24%. Similarly, Mn content of the alloy increased from 0.3wt% to 0.7wt%, macro shrinkage ratio decreased from 6.0% to 4.5% and micro shrinkage ratio increased from 0.12% to 0.18%. Judging from the castability of the alloy, Al-9wt%Si-0.3wt%Mg alloy with low content of Fe and Mn, 0.1wt% Fe and 0.3wt% Mn, is recommendable.

이관능성 에폭시/폴리썰폰 블렌드의 경화 동력학 및 유변학적 특성에 관한 연구 (Studies on Cure Kinetics and Rheological Properties of Difunctional Epoxy/Polysulfone Blend System)

  • 본 연구에서는 이관능성 에폭시인 diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DGEBA)/polysulfone (PSF) 블렌드를 시차 열분석기와 레오미터를 이용하여 경화 동력학과 유변학적 특성에 대해 연구하였다. DSC 측정 결과, 최대 발열 피크와 half-width 방법을 사용하여 구한 경화 활성화 에너지 (E$_{a}$ )는 PSF의 함량이 30wt%까지는 증가하였으나, 그 이상의 첨가에서는 감소하였다. 그리고, 전화량($\alpha$)과 전환 속도(d$\alpha$/dt)는 PSF의 함량이 증가함에 따라 감소함을 보였다. 본 연구에서의 유변학적 특성은 레오미터를 이용하여 등온 조건하에서 검토하였고, 겔화 시간과 경화 온도를 이용한 Arrhenius 방정식을 적용하여 가교 활성화 에너지 (E$_{c}$)를 검토한 결과, E$_{a}$ 와 유사한 경향을 나타내었다. 이는 높은 점도를 지닌 PSF의 첨가로 인한 DGEBA와 PSF의 상분리 현상 때문이라 사료된다.다.

  • In this study, near the 3-phase power lines with branch lines were formulated. In rectangular coordinates, dependence of branch angle $\alpha$ on electromagnetic field components $B_x,\;B_y,\;B_z$$E_x,\;E_y,\;E_z$ was analyzed. The resultant electromagnetic fields B and E were discussed.

  • Polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) thin films are fabricated by vapor deposition method and their dielectric characteristics are investigated. At electric field near 4MV/m, a phase transition occur with polar ${\alpha}$ . In accordance to increasing temperature, the dielectric relaxation of PVOF thin films show from 70Hz to 104Hz. This result correspond to Debye's theory[1]. Activation energy of PVDP thin film is 21Kca1/mo1.

Power spectrum density analysis for the influence of complete denture on the brain function of edentulous patients - pilot study

  • PURPOSE. This pilot study was to find the influence of complete denture on the brain activity and cognitive function of edentulous patients measured through Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The study recruited 20 patients aged from 50 to 60 years requiring complete dentures with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The brain function and cognitive function were analyzed with a mental state questionnaire and a 15-minute analysis of power spectral density of EEG alpha waves. The analysis included edentulous phase and post denture insertion adaptive phase, each done before and after chewing. The results obtained were statistically evaluated. RESULTS. Power Spectral Density (PSD) values increased from edentulous phase to post denture insertion adaption phase. The data were grouped as edentulous phase before chewing (EEG p1-0.0064), edentulous phase after chewing (EEG p2-0.0073), post denture insertion adaptive phase before chewing (EEG p3-0.0077), and post denture insertion adaptive phase after chewing (EEG p4-0.0096). The acquired values were statistically analyzed using paired t-test, which showed statistically significant results (P<.05). CONCLUSION. This pilot study showed functional improvement in brain function of edentulous patients with complete dentures rehabilitation.
