Aim & Scope
The Korean Planning Association (KPA), established in 1959 is the first non-profit academic organization related to the field of urban and regional planning in Korea. It has served as an academic root for the nation’s urban and regional studies and has been also playing its role in sharing and exchanging knowledge involving more than 7,000 members in that field. As the official Journal of the KPA, Journal of the Korean Planning Association (JKPA) has aggregated the history and academic achievements of planning-related disciplines in Korea. Over five decades since 1966, JKPA has published articles that inspire to bring insight to practitioners, policymakers, researchers, educators, and students in urban and regional planning. Embracing a multidisciplinary approach to this field, JKPA has been at the forefront of the field in Korea which has experienced high economic growth and rapid urbanization for late twentieth century. In line with the development of Korea, JKPA has kept identifying problems and significant consequences in its planning process and also evaluating desirable alternatives necessary for its sustainable development. As this bimonthly, double-blind peer reviewed journal publishes more than 90 articles per year, it has been an outstanding forum for addressing theoretical and empirical issues from multidisciplinary perspectives in Korea. In addition to its traditional topics, this nationally renowned journal has recently brought new subjects involved in smart technology, hazard mitigation, information and communication technology, financing and so on. As JKPA has made an essential contribution to providing a foreground for those who work at this field, it was selected as one of ‘excellent journals’ in the last re-evaluation process by Korea Citation Index (KCI). This is the concrete evidence that JKPA has maintained its high quality over years. Its impact factor has been at the top among the 15 journal titles listed in the same category. In order to maintain the best academic reputation and achievements continuously, JKPA has strict codes of ethics in the whole process from journal submission to final judgment. It is also striving to improve the quality of the journal paper as well as enhance the credibility of the JKPA through a fair and transparent publication process. We publish papers on a variety of topics, contexts and research methods that examine the rapidly evolving relationship between planning and all other related fields.
