Aim & Scope
The Journal of International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (JICEMS) is going to be published quarterly. It is a joint publication of the Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers (KIEE), the Institute of Electrical Engineering of Japan(IEEJ), and the China Electrotechnical Society (CES). It includes all topics in the fields of electric machines, power electronics and emerging energy systems.

In recent years, a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) has been used in various kinds of transportation applications for its relative high power density and efficiency. The general transportation system arranges the armature on the full length of transportation lines. However, when this method is applied to long distance transportation system, it causes increase of material cost and manufacturing time. Thus, in order to resolve this problem, we suggested stationary discontinuous armature PMLSM. However, the stationary discontinuous armature PMLSM contains the edges which always exist as a result of the discontinuous arrangement of the armature. These edges become a problem because the cogging force that they exert bad influences the controllability of the motor. Therefore, in this paper we proposed the combination of skewed magnets and stair shape auxiliary teeth to reduce the force by edge effect. Moreover, we analyzed the influence of the design factors by using a 3-D finite element method (FEM) simulation tool.

The most common current controller for the Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) is the hysteresis controller. This method, however, suffers from such drawbacks as variable switching frequency, consequent audible noise and high current ripple. These disadvantages make this controlling method undesirable for many applications. The alternative solution is the PI controller. Since the fixed gain PI current controller can only be optimized for one operating point, and on the other hand, SR motor is highly nonlinear, PI controller gain should be adjusted according to incremental inductance. This paper presents a novel method for PI current controller gain adaptation which is simple and yields a good performance. The proposed controller has been implemented on a test bench using a eZdsp F28335 board. The performance of the current controller has been investigated in both simulation and experimental tests using a four-phase 8/6 4KW SRM drive system. -
PID control method usually has problems of overshoot and oscillation in high order control system, therefore, it is important to improve the control method so as to reduce the overshoot and oscillation. Based on MATLAB simulation, a permanent magnet (PM) DC servomotor control system is studied in this paper. The motor is modeled according to the universal motor theory, and with the help of the fourth order Ronge-Kutta method, its speed control is simulated and compared between two different dual closed-loops PWM control methods. This case study helps undergraduate students to better understand theories related to electrical engineering, such as electrical machinery, power electronics and control theory, as well as digital solution of state equations.

In this paper, the cogging torques were calculated for 1kw double-sided axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) generator with different stator core pole arrangements. The generator is composed of 18 stator pole and 24 rotating field magnets on each side. The cogging torques of the generator with three types of arrangements of stator poles were calculated using 3D finite element method and the optimum core shape was determined to minimize the cogging torque. -
In This paper, the output characteristics and vibrations were compared and analyzed according to operation method in 100W class. The voltage source is applied only two phase in BLDC drive system therefore commutation torque ripple and imbalance of RMF occurred. Due to this efficiency was significantly degraded because mechanical loss is increased, besides the vibration and noise were greatly generated. The vibration and output characteristics were compared and analyzed according to three phase and BLDC drive system.

This paper presents one of the methods for design to reduce the noise and vibration of 200kW motor for electric propulsion ship. One of the important factors affecting vibration of the motor is the resonance. The natural frequency and natural mode of the 200kW motor is analyzed by using FEM tool and impact test equipment to avoid the resonance. Also, compare FEM result with impact test result to make a reliable FE model of 200kW motor. In order to find out the effect of the noise and vibration of the motor by electromagnetic excitation force, conduct electromagnetic-structure coupled analysis. These characteristics are much useful to design 200kW motor for electric propulsion ship.

This paper deals with the comparison and dynamic behavior of a moving-coil linear oscillatory actuator (MCLOA) with/without a mechanical spring. On the basis of a dynamic simulation model, the dynamic characteristics such as a current and a stroke of the MCLOA without the spring are predicted for various values of frequency. And then, dynamic test results are given to confirm the dynamic simulations. Finally, this paper describes the influence of the spring on the dynamic behavior of the MCLOA from the dynamic experiments of the MCLOA with/without the spring.

This paper presents the comparison study of permanent magnet (PM) eddy current of concentrated winding type surface permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) with different rare-earth magnet shapes. The fractional slot winding having 10 poles and 12 slots is studied. The PM eddy current is analyzed to compare for each shape by 2 dimensional (2D) finite element analysis (FEA). The eddy current and their loss of particular position of PM as well as their distributions are displayed for each model. The effect of partly enlarged air-gap made by PM shape to PM eddy current is compared. -

If it were possible to control four sets of PMSMs in place of induction motors by using one inverter, we could attain efficient driving trains. In this paper, a method for controlling three sets of PMSMs with one inverter is shown. Additionally, this shows the method to control four sets of PMSMs with one inverter and the results of a simulation with the proposed method. -

The parameters and operating characteristics of the switched reluctance motor (SRM) for the electric drive of the overland belt conveyor CLM-4500 have been presented. The motor power capacity has been equal to 1250 kW, the motor speed - 1000 min-1. SRM power supply has been provided by a three-phase voltage inverter and a 12-pulse rectifier circuit. The group electric drive has been installed on sections number 2 and 3, 3770 m and 3375 m length, respectively, on the areas of "Berezovsky Strip" JSC, a member of the Siberian Coal Energy Company. -

In this paper, reactorless high efficiency boost DC/DC converter for EV is proposed. In proposed converter, improves efficiency because decrease power loss when the switches are turned on/off using zero current switching (ZCS) at all switch of primary full bridge. By replacing reactance ingredients of L-C resonance circuit for ZCS with leakage inductance ingredients of high frequency transformer, it reduces system size and expense because of not add special reactor. For validity verification of proposed converter, in the paper implements simulation using PSIM and perform experiment by making 5KW DC/DC converter. In experimental results, efficiency of proposed converter conformed superiority. -

In this paper, simple LED driver is proposed. The proposed driver has simple construction having series capacitor, bridge rectifier, and adjustable regulator IC. Constant current control is possible with the use of TL431Z. The proposed in this paper, current is greater than the rating of the load, the current controller device measures the increased current in the circuit, and turned-on so that the current will be shared. Thus current control device makes the circuit more reliable, longevity as well as increase the luminous efficacy of the LED light. The simulation and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed circuits. -

Rotating machines are an integral part of large electrical power machinery in most of the industries. Any degradation or outages in the rotating electric machinery can result in significant losses in productivity. It is critical to monitor the equipment for any degradation's so that it can serve as an early warning for adequate maintenance activities and repair. Prior research and field studies have indicated that the rotating machines have a particular type of signal structure during the initial start-up transient. A machine performance can be studied based on the effect of degradation in signal parameters. In this paper a data-acquisition system and the FFT algorithm has been design and model using the MATLAB and Simulink. The implementation had been carried out on the TMS320 DSP Processor and various testing and verification of the machine performance had been carried out. The results show good agreement with expected results for both simulated and real-time data. The real-time data from AC water pumps which have rotating motors built-in were collected and analysed. The FFT algorithm provides frequency response and based on this frequency response performance of the machine had been measured.The FFT algorithm provides only approximation about the machine performances. -

Single phase voltage source converter (VSC) is an important power electronic converter (PEC), including single-phase voltage source inverter (VSI), single-phase voltage source rectifier (VSR), single-phase active power filter (APF) and single-phase grid-connection inverter (GCI). As the fundamental part of large scale PECs, single-phase VSC has a wide range of applications. In the paper, as first, on the basis of the concept of the discontinuous pulse-width modulation (DPWM) for three-phase VSC, a new DPWM of single-phase VSR is presented by means of zero-sequence component injection. Then, the transformation from stationary frame (abc) to rotating frame (dq) is designed after reconstructing the other orthogonal current by means of one order all-pass filter. Finally, the presented DPWM based single-phase VSR is established analyzed and simulated by means of MATLAB/SIMULINK. In addition, the DPWMs presented by D. Grahame Holmes and Thomas Lipo are discussed and simulated in brief. Obviously, the presented DPWM can also be used for single-phase VSI, GCI and APF. The simulation results show the validation of the above modulation algorithm, and the DPWM based single-phase VSR has reduced power loss and increased efficiency. -
This paper performed the optimal design of electromagnetic linear actuator with divided coil excitation. The table of orthogonal array and response surface methodology (RSM) are applied to maximize the clamping force of the electromagnetic linear actuator with colenoid (COL) and multipolar solenoid (MPS) excitation. The analysis results show that the clamping force of the optimal models with COL and MPS excitation are increased by 41% and 54% at the gap of 0mm compared to the initial models, respectively.

Parallel operation systems have an advantage in that they can be constructed quickly and inexpensively by combining existing electric power converters. However, in this case, there is a peculiar problem in that a cross current flows between the electric power converters. To design a control system more simply and commonalize the core of combination reactors, we reviewed a system construction method for parallel operation systems constructed with three electric power converters. -
This paper proposes the rotor position and rotor speed estimation for an interior permanent magnet synchronous machines (IPMSM) using Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) in alpha-beta coordinate system. Conventional algorithms using UKF are based on the simple observer model of IPMSM in d-q coordinate system. Rotor acceleration is neglected within the sampling step. An expansion of the observer model in an alpha-beta coordinate system with the consideration of the rotor speed variation provides the improved rotor position and speed estimation. The results show good stability concerning the expansion of observer model for the IPMSM.

This paper proposes a new switching algorithm for an active clamp snubber to improve the efficiency of a module integrated converter system. This system uses an active clamp method for the snubber circuit for the efficiency and reliability of the system. However, the active clamp snubber circuit has the disadvantage that system efficiency is decreased by switch operating time because of heat loss in resonance between the snubber capacitor and leakage inductance. To address this, this paper proposes a new switching algorithm. The proposed algorithm is a technique to reduce power consumption by reducing the resonance of the snubber switch operation time. Also, the snubber switch is operated at zero voltage switching by turning on the snubber switch before main switch turn-off. Simulation and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed new active clamp control algorithm.

The In solar power system, the height and azimuth of the sun are important parameters which control generated power magnitude. The tracking method that controls the daily generation magnitude according to latitude and longitude using the two axles is often used in the existing sunlight tracking system today. In this two-axle PV track control system, the self-load is concentrated on one FRAME. It is influenced of the regular load, snow load and the wind load, etc. It is difficult to set up the system in the conventional building. This research is a development about the small-scale economy track device of independent load-dispersing solar generation system. The position tracking algorithm is through new coordinates transformation calculating the height and azimuth of the sun. -

The demand for a DC power distributed system is increasing as renewable energy sources and DC electrical load are proliferating. For the automation of a power system, a magnetic contactor for the DC power system is required. The conventional magnetic contactors are mostly equipped with a solenoid magnetic actuator. However, the conventional magnetic contactor has problems with continuous power consumption, and heat generation. To address these problems, a permanent magnet type DC magnetic contactor is proposed in this paper. -

The conventional motor-driven MCCB (molded-case circuit breaker) is not only large in size, but also inefficient in performance. To solve these problems, this paper suggests SPMA (separate permanent-magnet actuator), a novel magnetic actuator. In this paper, SPMA is designed for a 225AF MCCB and compared to a conventional motor-driven MCCB and to an EMFA (electro-magnetic force driving actuator)-type MCCB.
