In past decades, a maximum standard vessel size for chemical tankers is not normally larger than 55,000 TDW due to the characteristic of chemical product shipment which is so variable but small quantity unlike single product carries such as crude oil tankers. These days, as demand of very large chemical tanker is rising due to the change of market trend of chemical product shipment, 75,000 TDW class chemical tanker has been developed. The newly developed vessel's structure has been designed based on CSR (Common Structural Rule) for double hull oil tankers (hereafter CSR) published by IACS (International Association of Classification Societies). However, due to the large difference from typical oil tankers, many items should be specially considered such as on deck transverse and corrugated bulkheads. In addition, two longitudinal bulkheads without upper stool have been constructed in order to maximise the number of cargo tanks and the volume of each cargo tanks. In this study, key word of the vessel has been briefly reviewed and the structural reliability of the proposed vessel has been investigated.

DNV crane criteria are specially designated for the vessel equipped with lifting crane to cover the risk during the crane operation. Based on the DNV crane criteria, the crane performance shall be decided. The weight control has great importance in the management of vessel's design for crane vessel. To evaluate limitation of lightship weight and the effect of design changes sufficiently, the lightship allowable VCG curve was used. The optimization process was carried out for generation of the lightship allowable VCG curve due to the difficulty coming from the characteristic of DNV crane criteria. This paper includes the introduction to the DNV Crane criteria and optimization process for evaluation in aspect of lightship weight and VCG.

In this paper, a collision accident of a container/Ro-Ro ship was numerically analyzed. A container trailer collided with a longitudinal bulkhead of the ship in the accident, which constituted a longitudinal wall of a heavy fuel oil tank. Due to the accident, the bulkhead plate was ruptured and the heavy fuel oil spilled out of the tank. The detailed information regarding the collision velocity and the mass of the trailer was not provided. Therefore, several collision accident scenarios were constructed based upon the arrangement of the ramp way. Each collision accident scenario was analyzed to predict the extents of damage using a commercial numerical package, ABAQUS. Based on the analysis results it is proposed how to minimize the extents of damage. Through the investigations performed in this study it was found that the understandings of various damages due to collision accidents and the developments of structural design guidance against collision are necessary for the betterment of Container/RO-RO ships' performance.

For the purpose of supporting Curved Blocks, pipe welding is commonly used on Curved panel. Typically, when it comes to attaching supporting pipe on heavy incurvated surface, it makes much loss in the process of design, cutting, welding. This paper gives proper methods to collecting problems and Core conflicts surrounding Support Pipe by using of TOC (Theory Of Constraints). Therefore drawing two solutions, pipe development program and NC generating from pipe development Data for Plate Cutting machine. It describes a process of erasing loss surrounding Support Pipe with "TOC Thinking process" and development of two programs in this paper.

Prevention of exhaust gas back flow becomes a great interest to shipyards and shipowners in large container carriers because exhaust gas pollutes cargoes, flows back into the deck house and the engine room area through fresh air intakes and fan rooms, gives harmful damages to the crew's health and also gives thermal damages to electric equipments on the navigation deck. The phenomena of exhaust gas back flow has been studied with the analysis of sea trial records and wind tunnel tests and the height of the exhaust gas pipe, the front area of the deck house, the inflow speed and the position of the radar mast platform has been confirmed as the principal factors of exhaust gas back flow phenomena. The simple empirical formula to estimate exhaust gas back flow phenomena and the design guidances of exhaust gas related structures on deck has been introduced. In future, parametric studies for the exhaust gas back flow factors will be carried out with the CFD analysis. The results of this study will be the guide for development of the prevention method of exhaust gas back flow phenomena for large container carriers.

Nowadays, automated modeling system for steel margin based on interactive user interface has been developed and applied to the production design stage. The system could increase design efficiency and minimize human error owing to recent CAD technique. However, there has been no approach to the pre-nesting design stage at all in early modeling process especially where ship model should be handled at more than two design stages using AVEVA Marine. A designer of the design stage needs artificial intelligence system beyond modeling automation when 3D model must be prepared in early modeling process using AVEVA Marine because they have focused on 2D nesting traditionally. In addition, they have a hard time figuring out the model prepared in previous design stage and modifying the model for steel purchase size in early modeling process. In this paper, artificial intelligence modeling system for automated application of steel margin in early modeling process using AVEVA Marine is developed in order to apply to the pre-nesting design stage that can detect effective segments before a calculation to find if a segment locates near block butt boundaries by filtering noise segments among lines, curves and surface intersections based on IT big data analysis.

Recently, according to the growth of demand about large container carrier, the studies for cavitation of semi-spade rudder were increased. In spite of many effort to solve, the fundamental solution can not be found. So, the studies for full-spade rudder are increasing to solve. In Pusan national university, the studies for full-spade twisted rudder and full-spade wavy twist rudder were carried out. However, most studies are carried out in numerical analysis and the many studies of experimental comparison between each rudder are not exist. This paper describe design history of full-spade rudder (twist rudder, wavy twist rudder) for KCS (KRISO Container Ship) and compare performance of each designed full-spade rudder about resistance and self-propulsion with conventional rudder (semi-spde rudder). The measurement about designed rudder's rudder force will be performed near future.

Transverse vibrations of ship's aft end and deckhouse among the various modes of hull structures are induced mainly by transverse exciting forces and moments of main engine such as
${\times}$ and h-moment. Avoidance of resonance should be made in a intial design stage in case there is a prediction for resonance between main engine and transverse modes of deckhouse. This study shows a case of change in type of main engine from 12 cylinders to 10 without modification of hull structures in engine room requested by a shipowner of 8,600 TEU class container carrier and proposes a guide to the effective ways of structural arrangement for avoiding resonance between transverse exciting force and surrounding structures of main engine in engine room through case studies. -
Now days, the demands of new type hull lines and optimum design in relation with the EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) regulation and eco-friendly high efficiency vessel design are mandatory clauses in Euro financial crises era. Therefore, in correlation with the above, we tried to find the optimum results and revealed the alterations of supporting structure for liftable car deck latch on PCTC. Generally, PCTC (Pure Car & Truck Carrier) design has been performed by 2 pillar space model F. E analysis without vehicle loads on liftable car deck to evaluate the structural adaptability. So, we applied mentioned vehicle loads on pillar and side transverse web on model to compare with not applied model and performed the ultimate strength analysis of improved design for the safety evaluation.

The demand for an ice class ship is rising expected to rise according to the increase of energy consumption and the opening of arctic sea routes. Ice class ship should be designed to cope with the severe environmental conditions of arctic sea such as a high mechanical impact and abrasion damage, caused by pack ice, ice bergs and low temperature. The ice class ship hulls are coated with an anti-abrasion and low friction coating such as a solvent free epoxy or high solid-volume epoxy. These coatings require two-component heating pump and a high grade surface preparation. In this study, the coating performances for the arctic vessels, such as puncture absorbed energy, abrasive wear loss, friction coefficients and impact absorbed energy were evaluated. Based on this study, a proper coating performance specification for the arctic vessels was proposed and coating selection guideline in terms of coating performance and workability was also established.

From broad point of view, seam tracking has been one of main issues with respect to welding automation. Several attempts have been successful for seam tracking of fixed weaving width. As a solution of the seam tracking methods for varying groove width, the visual sensors such as CCD cameras have been adopted. Although the vision sensing techniques can achieve high accuracy, the weak point is that well-prepared vision sensor environment should be required to obtain high-quality visual measurements which can be easily affected by significant noises in industrial areas. This paper proposed an alternative seam tracking algorithm for narrow groove. A special measurement device for arc voltage, in this study, is developed to enhance the reliability of the measured welding signals. Based on the developed arc sensor algorithm, an automatic weld-width tracking algorithm is also proposed, which is able to predict the weld-position more accurately. The usefulness of the automatic weld-width tracking algorithm was well verified by applying it to gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW).

In the engine room and the aft body, there are so many fluid tanks such as fresh water tank and oil tank. The vibration analysis for the fluid tank structures has to consider the added mass effect due to the fluid. However, it is known that the result of the fluid tank has the difference according to the boundary condition of the fluid field such as infinite fluid and finite fluid. In this paper, a numerical case study is carried out for the research about the vibration characteristics of the fluid tank with various fluid field. In addition, an experimental study is carried out to verify the validity of the vibration analysis for the fluid tank structure.
