초록

Objective: The purpose of this research was to analyze the effect of providing an aiming line according to visual perception capabilities on putting alignment during golf putting address position. Method: In the current study, healthy 70 males were recruited with no golf experience and musculoskeletal disorders. To assess visual perception capabilities, vernier acuity, and pseudoneglect test was performed. Based on the tests, total 44 participants were distinguished into four groups: (1) vernier acuity high + pseudoneglect high (VHPH, n = 11), (2) Vernier acuity high + pseudoneglect low (VHPL, n = 11), (3) vernier acuity low + pseudoneglect high (VLPH, n = 11), and (4) vernier acuity low + pseudoneglect low (VLPL, n = 11). In this study, four different aiming lines were provided: (1) without an aiming line (WO), (2) with one aiming line (W1), (3) with three aiming lines (W3), and (4) with a vertical aiming line (WV) during the putting address task. Participants performed 3 trials of putting address task for each different aiming line condition. Kinematic data were used to analyze the alignment angles between the target line and the putter face, and the alignment angles between the target line and the stances. We used IBM SPSS program to conduct statistical analyses. Two-way mixed ANOVA (4 × 4, Group × Condition) was performed to examine the difference between the four groups and the four aiming line conditions based on visual perception capabilities. Bonferroni's pair-wise comparisons were conducted for the post hoc analysis on interaction effect and all statistical significance levels were set as .05. Results: The study results showed that VHPH group had significantly reduced alignment angles as compared with VLPH and VLPL groups, and VHPL group had significantly reduced alignment angles in comparison to VLPL group for both WO and W1 conditions. For the W3 condition, the VHPH group had significantly reduced alignment angles as compared with VLPL group. Additionally, W1 condition showed lower alignment angles than WV condition within VHPH group. Conclusion: In conclusion, individuals with high visual perception capabilities had superior alignment performance regardless of the aiming line conditions. For those with low visual perception capabilities, providing aiming lines enhanced putting alignment performance. Taken together, our findings provide quantitative data on the effectiveness of visual aids in improving putting alignment and in developing visual aids based on visual perception capabilities.
