This study focuses on the direction of Christian character education through the theological constructs of grace and will, as expounded by Augustinus and Luther. A resurgence of interest has been observed in character education within Christian circles in response to contemporary societal challenges. Distinct from secular approaches predominantly emphasizing behavioral conformity, Christian character education advocates for a profound internal transformation, that is, a sanctifying process orchestrated by God's divine grace. However, this necessitates the engagement of human will. This study intends to explain the complex relationship between grace and will, which is an interplay pivotal for comprehending the distinct characteristics of Christian character education. By thoroughly analyzing the theological contributions of Augustinus and Luther, both of whom exerted significant influence on Christian, particularly Protestant, doctrine, this study analyzes the historical context and explores the implications of grace and will in the formation of Christian character. By juxtaposing between the perspectives of Augustinus and Luther, this study identifies convergences and divergences in their theological understandings. Drawing from this comparative analysis, the study argues that Christian character education should be directed toward fostering existential transformation, deeply rooted in Scriptural authority, and encouraging individuals to recognize and respond to God's grace in their lives. This educational approach cultivates a stable will and virtuous character, engenders internal tranquility, and nurtures harmonious interpersonal relationships.
