The Effectiveness of Acupuncture Therapy for Spondylolisthesis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Objectives The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture for spondylolisthesis. Methods We conducted searching by 8 databases, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Korean studies Information Service System, Research Information Sharing Service, ScienceON, DataBase Periodical Information Academic and Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System on August 10, 2024. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) using acupuncture for intervention were selected. The risk of bias of selected RCTs was analyzed by Cochrane risk of bias, and meta-analysis was performed by Review Manager website. Results Six RCT studies were analyzed. As a result of meta-analysis, acupunture was statistically significant effective for spondylolisthesis even when combined with other treatments such as manipulation, medicine, nerve block. Conclusions By this review, we can apply varius acupunture therapy such as manual acupuncture, acupotomy, floating acupuncture with other treatment for spondylolisthesis. However, because of the poor methodological quality of the included RCTs, higer quality studies should be required in the future.
