The purpose of this study is to provide a foundation for meaningful implementation of mathematics reading in school mathematics. To this end, the research process addressed the need for mathematics reading instruction and examined the meaning of mathematics reading activities from the perspective of mathematics learning theory. From the perspective of Vygotsky's mathematics learning psychology and social constructivist learning theory, mathematics reading is a learning activity in which learners expand their ZPD area through interaction with texts and authors. And the effectiveness of math reading is increased through a discussion process with active social interaction. Considering the values and goals of our country's mathematics curriculum, mathematics reading needs to be implemented meaningfully in school mathematics. In this study, specific action plans were presented for teachers, who are the subjects of mathematics reading instruction. The action plans that mathematics teachers should keep in mind before, during, and after mathematics reading will serve as practical guidelines to help effectively implement mathematics reading instruction in school mathematics education.
