Effect of Problem Solving Ability and Critical Thinking Disposition on Communication Competency in Nursing Students

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of problem solving ability and critical thinking disposition on communication competency of nursing students. The subjects of this study were 289 students at two universities located in C and G province. The collected data were analyzed by multiple regression analysis. The results showed that communication competency of nursing students was positively correlated with problem solving ability and critical thinking disposition. Communication competency was explained 40.6% of the variance in critical thinking and problem solving ability. Therefore, in order to improve the communication competency of nursing students, it is necessary to develop an educational program that improves critical thinking disposition and problem solving ability.

본 연구는 간호대학생의 문제해결능력과 비판적 사고성향이 의사소통능력에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위해 실시되었다. 2021년 9월부터 11월까지 G도와 C도 2개 대학 간호학과 289명의 학생을 대상으로 구조화된 설문지를 이용하여 자료를 수집하였고 의사소통능력의 영향요인 분석은 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 간호대학생의 의사소통능력은 문제해결능력(r=.61, p<.001), 비판적 사고성향(r=.65, p<.001)과 양의 상관관계를 나타냈고, 문제해결능력과 비판적 사고성향(r=.81, p<.001)도 양의 상관관계를 보였다. 의사소통능력에 대한 영향요인은 비판적 사고성향(β=.46, p<.001), 문제해결능력(β=.23, p<.001), 성별(β=.13, p=.003)로 46.0%를 설명하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러므로 간호대학생의 의사소통능력 향상을 위해 문제해결능력과 비판적 사고성향의 향상을 고려한 교수학습 전략을 모색해야 할 것이다.
