Abstract

On After World War II, 16 Grundsätze des Städtabaus was instituted in East Germany in 1950, influenced by socialist realism based on the Soviet Marxist-Leninist ideology. 16 Grundsätze des Städtabaus had the greatest influence on architecture and urban planning in East Germany until it became German. 16 Grundsätze des Städtabaus consist of a total of 16 Principles, and the main content is the definition of cities, city centers, and residences in the socialist ideology, and the rules for the role of the square, transportation, and residential environment. New planned cities according to 16 Grundsätze des Städtabaus were constructed, and buildings in the form of socialist classicism were built. In particular, Plattenbau was supplied to the people as an industrial collective housing form expressing socialist ideology. 16 Grundsätze des Städtabaus was successful as a method of faithfully expressing the socialist ideology, but as a result, it created the limits of urban growth and the inhuman living environment.
