Abstract

A wind turbine blade is an important part of a wind turbine generator that converts the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical energy. Because the blades are constantly subjected to forces, they are always exposed to unstable conditions, and there is always a risk of internal defects. Therefore, among nondestructive inspection methods, there is continuing research on ultrasonic inspection that can detect the internal defects of a blade. However, ultrasonic inspection has several problems, such as the issue of storing inspection data. In this study, we confirmed the possibility of detecting defects in the joints of blades by applying phased array ultrasonic inspection, which is a development type of ultrasonic inspection used mainly for blade inspection, after specimens were made with delamination defects that occur frequently in blade joint areas.
