초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the origin of "DongHeon 東軒", the common name for the Governor office building in local government buildings during the Joseon Dynasty. Although the word "DongHeon" literally means "East Pavilion" but they had not east position on the building layout, or pavilion style. Through the extensive researches of Korean and Chinese historical records, the author found that government buildings had been divided into GuanA(office building) and GaekSa(guest house), and the governor's hall had been also moved from the east pavilion of Gaeksa to the main hall of GuanA with its common name.
