Abstract

Multi-family housing is the most general housing type in korea. Also, it is the trend that design is emphasized regardless of the outside or inside of the residential space by increasing people who seek their own life-style and individuality. The purpose of this study is to understand how to show the character in exterior of the multi-family housing in the architectural magazine. Such features can be summarized in the following three aspects. (1) Opening : the facade design element expressed to the outside with the close relation with inside space. Specially, those features appear more distinctly in the multi-family housing that is composed of small unit of individual space. This study is focused on the opening space. (2) Color & Material : all elements exposed in the outside space by being added or emphasized among various design elements that is expressed on the facade. It is mainly used to emphasize specific facade in multi-family housing, and even embossed in case of using special materials. It is analyzed into color and material in this study. (3) Volume & Mass : Building design that is composed of three-dimensional surface is felt like a mass. Because the feature of each facade design is combined and then expressed as one integrated building, the design element about the whole is important. On characteristic of the multi-family housing, core and the shape of higher stories mainly affect the facade design.
