The purpose of this study was to propose a method for exchange of data on RC structural members between IFC and Tekla. To achieve this purpose, a close investigation of data exchange between IFC and Tekla using import/export provided by Tekla was made and the problems of distortion or loss of data were identified. And, the explicit and reliable method for exchange of the following data was proposed; the name of building, name and elevation of story, member group, geometric shape, position and eccentricity of solid, axis and section profile, member identifiers. Then, a software, which implemented the proposed data exchange method based on Tekla Open API and IFC Engine DLL, was developed using C#. Finally, for verification of the proposed exchange method, the data on RC structural members in 2 RC sample buildings was exchanged using the software without distortion or loss of data. From the result of the data exchange, it was concluded that the proposed method can solve the problems of distortion or loss of data of RC structural members between IFC and Tekla.
