Abstract
This study focus on the initial public Civic and Model apartment during 1968-1972 as transition period in Korea apartment history. By looking main daily newspaper for the Kumhwa district apartment life-changes, it investigated the characteristics of the initial apartment. Initial public apartment business for improvement of the lack of housing and unauthorized bad housing development began. But because of the poor economic and social situations, initial business reveals the limitations of the excess policy, bad construction, and early demolition. However, large-scale public apartment project was the formation of the current housing policy, physical environment and living environment. This is an important event in the domestic housing. In this study, through an analysis of newspaper articles on the 219 cases, characteristics of Kumhwa district have been derived as follows. (1) The duality of public works projects, (2) Changes in the initial apartment life due to a variety of physical, social factors, (3) Efforts of the government and the citizens for communal living. This result shows the characteristics of the domestic apartments of the transitional period.
