Abstract
This paper is to clarify on the urban historical characteristics of the city wall in Gaegyeong, the capital of the Goryeo Dynasty, based on a study of the location of the city wall and gates, the relationship of the exited roads and the gates, administrative districts and its division guide lines. The results of this study are as follows; Firstly, construction of city wall have transformed the spacial structure of Gaegyeong. Secondly, the city wall, while maintaining existing roads and urban structure was built. Finally, administrative district of the Gaegyeong were divided based on the geographic conditions, were also located outside the city wall. It shows that Gaegyeong, without limitation of the city wall could be expanded and changed.
