Abstract

The children grow interacting with the environment around them in the neighborhood and the community, and the neighborhood may have influences on their physical activities related to health. Therefore, it is important to consider the children's physical activities and the relationship between the children and the neighborhood. The study drew the patterns of children's travel and the characteristics of physical activities in the neighborhood. The physical activities were categorized into three divisions through theoretical investigation: active play, sports and active transportation. The fourth grade primary school students participated in the research using the mapping method for one-day travel diary. The findings of the research are as follows. First, it identified the travel patterns including destinations, travel mode and distances. Second, it drew the characteristics of active transportation and the place where children play and sport. In conclusion, the analysis suggested environment considerations for improving children's physical activities. The study is a worth investigation identifying physical activity and environmental characteristics in the neighborhood through their participation.
