Abstract

A new orange mini gerbera (Gerbera hybrida Hort.) 'Yetty' was developed from a cross 'Haiti' and 'Nova Zembra' followed by seedling and line selections at the Flower Research Institute, Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services (ARES) from 2001 to 2006. Three times evaluations were conducted from 2004 for the detailed characteristics of the new cultivar, 'Yetty' has single type mini flower in good harmony with orange (RHS 25-A) ray floret and browen center. It has good stable flower shape and strong peduncle, and its vase life was 14.8 days. The average yield of 'Yerty' was 98.5 flowers per plant a year in greenhouse yield trials carried out from 2004 to 2006. This cultivar registered for commercialization in 2007. 'Yerty' would be cultured under greenhouse condition in Korea.

경남농업기술원 화훼연구소에서 2000년부터 교배조합 육성을 위하여 국내의 재배농가와 종묘업체로부터 품종을 수집한 후, 2001년 3월에 적색 소륜계 'Haiti'를 모본, 흰색 소륜계 'Nova Zembra'를 부본으로 인공교배를 실시하여 교배조합으로부터 831개의 종지를 획득하였다. 교잡 1세대를 육묘하여 화색이 선명하고 수량이 많은 우수 4개체를 1차로 선발하였고, 그 중 특성이 우수한 '01114-389'를 생장점배양에 의해 개체증식 하였다. 포장에 정식하여 2004년 9월부터 2006년 10월까지 3회에 걸쳐 특성검정을 실시한 결과 화색, 화형, 수확량 등 품질과 수량이 우수하다고 판단되어 2006년 농작물 직무육성 신품종선정위원회의 심의를 거쳐 'Yetty'로 명명하였다. 'Yetty'는 화색이 선명한 오랜지색의 홑꽃 절화용으로 수량이 많고 화경이 단단한 안정된 화형의 소륜화로서 화색과 화심색이 잘 조화된 기호도가 높은 품종이다. 주 당 연간수량은 3회 검정 결과 평균 약 50본 정도이며, 평균 절화수명은 약 15일 정도이다.
