Development of Digitizing Design Program and Applying it to the Cord-Yarn Sewing Machines

Abstract

The three dimensional cording in curtains and bedding are made by manually operated cord yam sewing machines. For automatization of this technology, a design program will have to be developed first. However, existing embroidery machines use the CAD software which is used for construction and machine designing, and convert a part for the design data to meet the use. Meanwhile, in embroidery design, there are many aesthetic curves (free drawn curves) which are difficult to express by mathematical formulas, so there is a limit to expression using the CAD program which mainly deals with geometrical data. In this study, a design program and a interpolation module were developed in order to directly input the copy of the designs on the design papers with the mouse or digitizer pen and to generate the processing data for the cord-yarn sewing machines.
