Abstract

Polyester fabrics composed of filament fibers of different fiber fineness (0.75, 1.0, and 2.0 dpf) were finished with three different types of silicone softeners. Eleven parameters characterizing the physical-mechanical attributes of hand were measured, using the Kawabata Evaluation System (KES). Abrasion resistance of the fabrics was also determined, using a Taber abrasion tester. Instrumental measure of hand, as measured by the 11 KES physical-mechanical parameters, varied significantly with fiber fineness, and some of the KES parameters varied significantly with silicone softener treatment. Fabric abrasion resistance depended significantly on the (p<0.01) fiber fineness and silicone softener treatment (p<0.05).
