Abstract

A new evaluation method for determining the evenness of the areal density of nonwoven fabrics was developed. In this study, patterned nonwoven fabrics such as spunbonded nonwovens were treated. The pattern produced by the engraved calender roller was removed with a smoothing filter and then the evenness of the areal density was evaluated. As we have discussed in the previous work[1], the coefficient of variation (CV%) was used as an evaluating factor. The CV%, in this study, means the variance of gray value obtained from the pixels of the fabric images. The results show that the coefficient of variation was an adequate factor in the evaluation of the evenness of the areal density of nonwoven fabrics.
