A Study on the Design Analysis of Double Cams for Weft Insertion and Beating Motion of a Rapier Loom

The weft insertion and beating device of a high speed rapier loom, weaving fabric by completion of warp-weft patterns, is equipped with 4 cams drived by double cam type on the same axis. As the double cam, coupled with two cams, performs the mutual conjugate motion, the double cam must be very preciously designed for smooth motion. On this study, the 3-point slope contact method was proposed for accurate design and analysis of a driving device which had been composed with oscillating roller follower and disk-type cam, and the practical applicability was verified by developing'DISKCAM'of a CAD program. As an example applied, the DISKCAM program was applied to the design and analysis of an existing high-speed rapier loom. We applied quadratic equations to the double cam for weft insertion, and applied 8-order polynominals for the beating as displacement curves for shape determination of double cams.
